Boxing the new big sport in Pakistan?

Pakistan's own boxing league to be launched in April. Seeing at the moment Pakistan hasn't hosted any international events in the last 5-6 years this could be and should be big.

Jokes aside, we were quite successful at boxing in the Asian Games. I remember quite a few medals. There was even the guy who won bronze in the Seoul Olympics in '88. I wonder what became of him.

I know hes British Pakistani but hes helped out and the kids have a role model. Olympics was a sham due to a mr Chowdury but some competitors were good, I remember that.

I vaguely remember that Dr. Chowdhry fellow. He was quite high up in international boxing circles.

The winner of the bronze medal in the 1988 seoul olympics was Hussein Shah. I think he was killed in Pakistan a few years ago. Someone can verify.

I'm surprised boxing and MMA haven't took off more in Pakistan. Quite inexpensive to get into and with the tradition of wrestling or kabaddi it would seem a good fit. I can imagine there aren't many gyms though.
