Britney Spears is back in rehab after claiming she shaved her head because she had lice. The pop star has checked in as an inpatient days after publicly shaving her head at a Los Angeles salon.

Spears went for treatment after relatives, including her mother Lynn Spears, urged her to get help.

She is reported to have complained to friends of a “strange itching” on her scalp, and said the “bugs” had “totally freaked me out”.

Spears, 25, is at the Promises Malibu Treatment Center, near where she used to live with husband Kevin Federline.

“Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into an undisclosed rehab facility today,” her spokesman said in a statement to People.com.

“We ask that the media respect her privacy as well as that of her family and friends at this time.”

Last week Spears checked herself into Eric Clapton’s Crossroads centre in Antigua. But within 24 hours she had left and flown back to LA. Hours later she was spotted at a salon in the San Fernando Valley area, where she used a pair of clippers to shave her hair. The next day she chose to wear a blonde wig.

Spears, whose second son Jayden is five months old, has become increasingly erratic after the split from Federline last November.

It's pretty sad that people like this (as well as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and the other flashers) are seen as aspirational role models by young girls these days. Why can't we have classy celebrities like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Greta Garbo? Even in the 80s we had Brat Packers like Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy, but at least they appeared in some half-decent movies.

On another note, I guess Britney Spears had to become Britney Shears.

BS. No pressures of stardom. It all went to her head. When she first started out in 1999 she said she would be a role model for all teenagers and would not exploit her sexy image. Then with every year she became more and more famous and she started getting more and more explicit as if she could afford to get away with it. She made millions and was on top of the world in 2003.

Then she deliberately marries a guy for 55 hrs just for the fun of it. She decides to get married and have kids at a very young age when she should have been focusing on her career. She marries a bloody gold digger who exploited her money. She decided to have children without realising how big a responsibility married life and just because she was famous, rich she could handle it as if it was a piece of cake. Rhythem is important for everything in life. She hasnt done any music for the past 4 years and now she is struggling to get back into it because she is out of practice. I have no sympathy for her. She was overconfident, slutty and now is slowly getting the message that its one thing getting to the top but to remain there is something different.

Looking at how drastically things have changed for her, really makes me believe in Allah and the consequences of deliberately making bad decisions in life under the false impression you can over come them because of your fame, money, good looks. It was nice knowing you Britney.

public demands this as they buy the tabloids and watch tabloid shows that report on celebreties so now these tabloid people are becoming journalists.

It is like when Anna Nicole Smith died couple of weeks ago and I went home early so I started watching news as there is not much on TV in day time in USA unless you want to watch movies. All the news channel were only covering Anna Nichole. Now this is not a major news at all or hardly news to me. then Hardball with Chris Mathews came on and there was no mention of her. So I got some hope that next hour there will be news but NOOOO it went back to Anna Nichole on Fox (Bill O'Rielley), CNN, MSNBC (Keithe Olberman???) etc. whatever sells or get attention they will put it on and they will make it personal for you so you keep watching. some will drag it on for weeks like Bill O'Rielly and Greta of FOX did with that girl that went missing in Caribbean a year or two ago.

the wierd part is that the media conforms and picks and chooses the smae person or garbage news to focus on. I guess some are afraid to not being classified as news organization if they didn't and some other is showing entertaing and juicy stuff

Spears had the drastic cut at Esther’s Hair Studio in California on Friday. The website, buybritneyshair.com, claims to have been set up by salon owner Esther Tognozzi. It includes photos of the hair, saying it is “absolutely authentic”. Meanwhile, Spears has been spotted in Hollywood sporting a short blonde wig. The salon’s website offers bidders an “opportunity of a lifetime” and says a portion of the proceeds will be donated to various unnamed charities. As well as the hair, the winning bidder will also get the hair clippers Spears used.

Britney Spears has described the termination of a legal arrangement that controlled many aspects of her life for 13 years as "the best day ever".

"I think I'm gonna cry," she told her 35 million Instagram followers.

A judge in Los Angeles on Friday ended the conservatorship set up by the 39-year-old singer's father in 2008 with immediate effect.

Fans had gathered outside the LA court to support Spears, who had described the guardianship as abusive.

Her father Jamie earlier said it was "necessary", but agreed it was time for her "to re-take control of her life".

"Her life was in shambles and she was in physical, emotional, mental and financial distress," lawyers representing Jamie Spears said in earlier court filings.

The conservatorship had power over her finances and career decisions plus major personal matters, such as her visits with her teenage sons and whether she can get remarried.

On Friday, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled in favour of the singer's request to end it, which was not opposed by any of the parties involved.

As part of the ruling, Judge Penny said an accountant who served as a temporary conservator should retain some powers to settle ongoing financial issues.

Addressing the crowd outside the court, Spears' lawyer Mathew Rosengart praised the singer's "courage" throughout the court hearings.

He said he was proud that she had "shined a light on conservatorships from California to New York", and that as a result of her testimony, new legislation had been passed "to try to ensure that conservatorships like this... do not happen again".

Friends were also jubilant following the decision. Celebrity and businesswoman Paris Hilton wrote on Twitter the "moment is so long overdue", adding: "Your best days are yet to come!"

On Monday, the Baby One More Time and Toxic singer wrote on Instagram that she hadn't "prayed for something more in my life".

"I know I've said some things on my Insta out of anger and I'm sorry but I'm only human... and I believe you'd feel the same way if you were me!"

In a court appearance in June, the star asked the judge to end the "abusive" arrangement and said she was "traumatised".

Addressing the court remotely, she said she had been drugged, forced to perform against her will and prevented from getting married and having more children.

Her testimony led her father to agree to step aside.

A conservatorship is used for people who cannot make their own decisions and was put in place because of concerns about her mental health.
