Can Mohammad Rizwan rise in rankings to become one of the 10-top players in Tests?

Rizwan has looked great all tour long, very consistent in tough conditions. Looks extremely improved, and on a mission in the past year. Does he possess the potential to break into the ICC top 10 in any format?
 
Needs to improve his running between the wickets and calling
 
It's fine start . But we know what has happened to players after good start to career . Doesn't take much time to go downhill
 
I swear man. The dude does not even have one Test match hundred..
 
He doesn't seem to have the concentration to make big centuries. Failing so often to convert a score is a weakness.
 
You need to bat for a long time and score big for that.
 
My heart bleeds when i think how we have kept him out of the side for someone like Sarfraz. :((

What a quality batsman he has turned out to be!
 
With regards to the thread, i believe he can be the best WK Batsman, and can come in the bottom 10 if he actually starts converting his scores to centuries.
 
No, he is a 35-40 averaging batsman. A very gritty player though, far better than Sarfraz.

Pant is a monstrous talent who will reach de Kock level in 3-4 years.

He is the best WK batsman prospect to emerge out of Asia since Dhoni in 2004-05.

But Pakistan is not competing with India anymore. Rizwan doesn’t need to have a comparable career in the long run to be a great player for us.

Rizwan is a brilliant keeper and a serviceable batsman. He has a good chance of ending up as Pakistan’s greatest WK batsman. The bar is very low, but it still means something.
 
I am pleasantly surprised by his performances in these conditions. He is consistently performing against quality seamers in tough conditions. Did it in England too.

As logic goes, In subcontinent conditions he should do even better. Can easily average 40+ for Pakistan.
 
he needs to score 100s for this and he will need a lot of support from lower order to score 100s. He can definitely enter top 10.

I agree. I meant, on current form.
 
I disagree with most PPers. I think he can be a top 10 batsman.

The centuries will come. Sometimes they take time.

If he can perform in tough conditions in SENA, there is nothing stopping him from propping his average up a home. He has the tools.

All he needs is for the form to continue and maybe come up one spot.
 
Let Rizwan be Rizwan. I think what he’s doing currently is more important than rankings. As long as he plays these fighting knocks when the team requires, it doesn’t matter what his rank is.
 
There were far too many talents who disappeared into obscurity after initial success. I just hope Rizwan takes his game into the next level by working even harder rather than feeling content with his achievements.
 
He can be the greatest wicket keeper batsman for Pakistan but compare him with modern day greats is just a delusion.

Has been great as per Pakistani standards but needs to score big. He should have at least converted one of the fifties into hundred. Nonetheless an asset for the team

He won't get much time on crease at home. Openers and middle order will keep piling runs in home conditions and he will hardly get to bat.

Rizwan is a really good lower-order batsman and an exceptional wicketkeeper.

He'd get into most teams on current form, but the ICC top 10 ranking for test matches is very difficult to enter.

He will need to rack up a few hundreds to even move into the top 20, but for Pakistani standards, he is a great batsman. He will surely become better and will soon get those hundreds, and I hope that he can be a top 10 batsman.
 
I don't know about Rizwan the white ball batsman, but in Test cricket he's been a joy to watch recently.

Comes out with positive intent and instead of a platform of 200/300-4, he's usually in the middle with the team in trouble at 70/80-4 yet relishes the challenge.

And I repeat, when your WK can bat competently at #6 it allows you to balance the side with an AR at 7. Faheem has pleasantly surprised me with MoYo's tuition making a difference.
 
On a side note, typical Pakistani fans behaving like aunties nitpicking this or that.

If you're coming in with the top four blown away for little, and with our shoddy tail (which tbf is starting to improve), then how'd do you expect anyone to occupy the crease long enough to make big hundreds ! Let alone in these bowler friendly conditions.

These fifties are still critical though obviously yes it'd be great to convert some of them.
 
Mohammad Rizwan is in his purple patch. But if you really dissect his innings, he's just 1 poor form away from being taken to the gallows.

Time and again I'm seeing Rizwan pushing hard at the ball. Driving away from the body. Feet hardly moving. These are all recipes for an impending disaster. Here's getting away because he's in his purple patch where his hand eye coordination is incredible right now.
But once he loses that, he will be terrible to look at.

Having said that, I'll have Rizwan over Sarfraz any day of the week.

Rizwan has shown different aspects to his batting
...aggresive in NZ...... Like a sponge...in England..

Absorbing pressure and time....
.and a fine constructive one in Australia...

Captaincy improved his batting form...

Need subtle changes but so far he is ok


..
 
Yes he can and will. To those writing him off once again. Has the past year not thought you guys anything?

This guy is gritty and mentally tough cricketer. There isn't anything he isn't able to achieve if he keeps this level of discipline up.
 
Don’t know about rankings but he will be an integral part of the team for years to come & will most definitely improve & score some important runs
 
Some people are going OTT with the praise of Rizwan and want him to do more or be in roles he doesn’t need to be in.

He is fine as a keeper batsmen and it’s not really that important where is ranked as a batter lol.

wicket keeping is so mentally draining, keepers don't usually have the stamina to bat for long periods of time consistently, even someone like Gilchrist only averaged 50 because he had a crazy high s.r.

the only exceptions being andy flower, who hit a few daddy hundreds and ab de villiers who kept in less than a quarter of the tests he played.

people need to temper their expectations, rizwan is good but even sarfraz averaged abt 50 after 20 tests.
 
If Riz finishes with any average of 33+than he would have has good career. We have an excellent WK bat and let's hope he kicks on. The other thing not mentioned is that our WKs start well but fall away. Safaraz started great but got lazy, Riz needs Safaraz atm and hopefully Others later to push him and not become complacent and lazy.
 
Him and Fawad need to bat 3 and 4

Babar can’t be trusted in these two positions I’m afraid

He should be averaging close to 40 atleast hes a much better batter than a 35 average player
 
He is the best WK batsman on form.. Potentially better than Butler / Pant but not as good as De Kock. Lets see how this one develops.

For 1 failure. The same fawad alam could not have been trusted in england and nz.
 
Rizwan should be batting at number 6 , should not be moved from that position in Test Matches.
He should not play 20 20 . In OD he should play only 50 % of the games.

I think he can finish with an average of 45 in Tests .

Bating average of 44 now and this includes mostly tough runs away from home. He should be Number 4 or 5.

De Kock looks disaster especially in tests. Pant and Butler are both better overall players than Rizwan.
 
He’s gritty but has so many flaws in his technique, especially with him falling over to the offside. An inducker from outside off will always do the trick. He’ll be decent and will most likely be the best batting wicketkeeper Pakistan has ever had. Top 10? Maybe for a small period of his purple patch, but will never stay there.

How are they better overall players than Rizwan? Rizwan is a gun fielder in the outfield too and better keeper than both of them. He has performed better in England, Australia and NZ than pant and butler usually would. I am not sure how many run pant can get in NZ? Its still early days so I said on form

i honestly think hes a 40 averaging player hes had a few tough tours weres he performed decently now hes going to have some easier tours.

Most WKs today have that ability but look at the likes of Bairstow De Kock etc and they end up with mid 30s. WK takes its toll
 
Sure he can. Just give him one more year and he will be a top ten player in all formats. Rizwan is a world class player and a match winner.
