Can Pakistan and Afghanistan become true friends under PM Imran Khan's regime?

With PM Imran Khan in visiting Afghanistan and the peace proposals between Taliban and the Afg govt, it would seem that some sort of air of rapprochement exists.

But is it a false dawn or can Pakistan and Afghanistan ever become good friends?

unlikely, pakistan has always seen it as imperitive to control afghan to minimise Indian influence, as long as antogonism with india persists, pak will maintain the same strategy in afg.

also imran or no imran, its the army and chinas foreign policy which dictates pakistans foreign policy. the long term objective would be to make afg stable to access central europe and create stanistan as a free trade block.

Sure, Afghans need to move on from Indians. Once the peace deal is finalised the Indians will be all but out of Afghanistan. Pakistan and Afghanistan will be safe and relations will improve esp with Imran Khan in charge.

The Kabul regime is allied with India, while Pakistan has ties with the Taliban. Nothing can change this basic fact. Besides the days of the Kabul regime are numbered. There is only one way this story is going to end and that will be with the Taliban seizing power.

Yes, things could get better with the Taliban in power. But that regime would be unstable as it is hard to believe that the Taliban will form a govt. with the Northern Alliance/Kabul Regime, while the Americans simply won't be funding a hardline religious regime. Without foreign aid the Afghan state which barely exists as it is, will continue to crumble, struggle to maintain order or change things in a meaningful way. On top of that, I just don't believe that the Taliban will not play double-games with Pakistan since they too do not trust the Pakistanis.

Bottom-line: the instability in Afghanistan is unlikely to go away anytime soon, which continue to be a major problem for Pakistan.

Punjabis aren't the only Pakistanis lol, yeah afghan nationalists do think all indo aryan people are Punjabi but most Pakistanis are not especially within higher echelons of Pakistani society. If you come over to America the Pakistani diaspora is very diverse.

RAWALPINDI, Nov 19 (APP): United States (US) Charge d’ Affaires to Pakistan Angela Aggeler, on Thursday appreciated Pakistan’s contributions for conflict prevention in the region and relentless support provided in Afghan peace process.

Director General Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar, in a tweet said the US envoy called on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa here.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest including regional security situation particularly Afghan peace process were discussed.

The dignitary also assured of United States continued assistance for the common cause of peace in Afghanistan, he added.

Punjabis aren't the only Pakistanis lol, yeah afghan nationalists do think all indo aryan people are Punjabi but most Pakistanis are not especially within higher echelons of Pakistani society. If you come over to America the Pakistani diaspora is very diverse.

They've got a very deep hatred towards Punjabi Muslims and Punjabi Sikhs, especially if both belong to the Jatt caste. In terms of Pakistan as a country, they detest that too mainly due to the durand line and how they feel entitled to the idea of KPK "belonging to Afghanistan" when it really doesn't; they also throw a lot of Pakistan Pashtuns under the bus which is quite unfair mainly due to the fact that they're proud of being Pakistani and have no problems with Punjabis. Completely agree with the Pakistani diaspora being diverse in America, wish to visit the US very soon in the near future; however this is also true for many countries across Europe.

The hatred the Afghanis have for Pakistanis sometimes surpasses Indians when you see it first hand, but I'd say perhaps both are on par when it comes to hatred for Pakistan and Pakistanis be that anywhere in the world.
