Can Pakistan beat South Africa in Tests at home?

Only one fast bowler looks like taking wickets , yasir shah is finished. Batting is misfiring and fielding is in shambles.
Not much quality in the reserves either to make the team more competitive.
 
Doubt it, South Africans are getting their mojo back with Graeme Smith, Mark Boucher at the helm of affairs

I hope they persist with Zafar gohar and prepare spinning pitches. Fast bowling is our weakest point and probably SAs strongest suit so we need to make spinning pitches.

I dont think on a typical Rawalpindi pitch we can beat SA. It helps seamers a lot

We suck at cricket, we will never amount to anything. It's over, might as well invest all that money in a national curling team, maybe we'll win a bronze medal.
 
Pakistan haven't beaten SA in a test series since 2003, so they need to beat SA and get this monkey off their backs:inti
 
South Africa will white wash us as well. Under Misbah and Waqar our players will regress further.
 
With Test in Karachi and Pindi they conditions help seamers more than the spinners which in pakistans case will be asking for trouble.

If more abbrasive surfaces are produced then Reverse swing and spin are favoured then SA seamers might enjoy reverse swing.

It would be a tough series now with pakistan getting worse as a side.

Pak batters and bowlers will perform better ...but fielding is a big concern
 
Pakistan should beat South Africa in these conditions. Safer bowlers , including Rabada, aren't all that in Asian conditions. Gone are the days of Steyn and his skiddy pace and swing . Their hit the deck seam bowlers will be ineffective on these pitches. Batsmen won't be able to play pakistani spinners or quicks either.

Not sure it'll be the kind of thrashing that India dished out but 2 wins is pretty much guaranteed.
 
South Africa don't have the attack. Only Rabada and Ngidi among the bowlers have toured India before, and if their stats are any evidence:

Rabada: 44
Ngidi: Infinity

Pakistan should clean sweep them easily. Who is the spinner? Maharaj lol?

Pakistan should beat south Africa.South Africa has only one world class player kagiso rabada who is the best in all formats if Pakistan manages to play him well they should win.

Are South Africa scheduled to play any practice games? The series outcome will depend on how early they arrive and get acclimatized to the conditions as most of these players have not played in Pakistan even once. And ofcourse, strength of the squad that they decide to send.

Though both teams are evenly matched, I expect Pakistan to win 2-0 in a tightly contested series.

Even if there are pace-friendly wickets they will likely be drier with not much pace and bounce, something South African seamers are not used to bowling on. So they may not not necessarily benefit them a great deal.

Nope. Only T20Is before the tests.
 
People here really overrating South Africa and underrating Pakistan.

Pakistan at home with Babar and Hasan back will be a much better side. South Africa haven't won in Asia since 2014. They haven't won a series against Pakistan away from home since 2007. And they were badly hammered on their last two tours to India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan have only won 1 test series against SA, and that was way back in 2003. They have lost 7 series to SA though. Not an enviable record, I must say:inti
 
I don't see Pakistan winning a test against decent/moderate opposition for some time either home or away. Top order batting is miserable. Babar Azam aside not much there. Bowling is impotent, Shaheen will have a huge burden to carry can't rely on Abbas to take wickets. And even if the pitch offers spin Maharaj will make more use than any Pakistani spinner has to offer. 2-0 to SA.

Look at the record outside South Africa. Even when South Africa had one of their all time best sides they couldn't beat Pakistan in UAE. Twice. And keep in mind that Pakistan was very much in the rebuilding phase during the time of the 2010 series. Infact that was the first series they played in UAE after the 2009 attacks and the 2010 spot-fixing scandal.
 
Saffers could not beat Lanka at Durban and PE . They are playing at the Wanderers right now and still their batting has not been able to impose itself on an attack of Fernando/Fernando/Chameera/Shanaka . If Pakistan play their 2 best quicks and 2 best spinners, this series is a foregone conclusion.

If I remember correctly even Sri Lanka and Bangladesh didn't play any practice games. How can one expect to win in a country they haven't toured in ages without playing atleast 2 'A' games? :facepalm:
 
South Africa is playing without Rabada and still they got srilanka out for 150 odd.

I don't think its going to be easy for Pak.
Rabada will do well this time in the subcontinent, he is too good a bowler to be a Green track bully.
Also the kind of Form that Yasir is in, Maharaj might give him a run for his money.

But this Ngidi guy is rubbish, they need to replace him Asap.

True. Ultimately I think it falls on the boards that are sending their teams to request these matches. If sure if South Africa made the request PCB would have accommodated them.

Bangladesh is a different case as they were being apprehensive about security and wanted the tour to be short and split into two parts. They are yet to play one test.

1-1 since Saffers will choke against Yasir Shah once.
 
Depends, a lot of people are underestimating Mohammad Wasim, which is probably right considering how low quality our previous selections have been.

If Mohammad Wasim nails the playing XI and the selections, we can easily win this series. We need to play two spinners, Sajid and Zafar on a dust bowl, and watch SA crumble.
 
Pakistan can definitely win as a I said. But the people who are thinking it will be a foregone conclusion are massively mistaken. South Africa do have players who have played cricket in Asia. If we produce a flat pitch they have the batters to take advantage of wayward bowling . If we produce a rank turner, it will be anyone's game. And if we produce a pitch where it has something for the seamers, it brings SA quicks into the game.
 
Can? Yes. However, needs to sort a lot of things especially in the bowling department.

If Pak is unable to win the series, this might signal that the end of the current Pak management is near unless performances of the national team are not a priority on PCB's agenda.

Yes so far this is looking likely but, unsatisfactory performances do keep on building pressure for the top management as well so you never know when someone is on the verge of taping out.

I think him giving up the CS role means they have said we will give you more time as coach. Also doubt PCB will want to pay out his contract and I seriously doubt they have any plans if they sacked him right now. Another reason why they will stick with him. They won't know who to turn too if he is sacked.

They can't play anything of quality. Elgar and Faf were barely averaging 40 with the bat before they started minnow bashing an SL C team on their fastest pitches. Pakistani pitches are a lot slower than even some Indian pitches where you can score freely. These guys will struggle to time the ball.

They have to adjust from the fastest, bounciest pitch in the world to some very slow tracks.
 
On a dry pitch it'd be cool to see Yasir and Sajid Khan in tandem, they should complement eachother well. I think that alone will be too much for the Saffers.

With Babar back and Hasan in for Naseem i think we'll probably outmatch them overall at home.

When South Africa toured India for 3 tests last time, they lost the last two Tests by an innings.

So I feel Pakistan will easily beat them by an innings.
 
It won't be easy but if i need to choose, I'll choose Pakistan as this team will have better chance.

Bud, SA bowlers struggled to take full 10 wickets in any innings from 3 tests against India.

It should be easy like India for Pakistan too.
 
SA lost their last series in Sri Lanka in 2018, 2-0 (2 match series) and lost their last series in India in 2019 3-0 (3 match series). This tells you all you need to know, unleash dustbowls and let Yasir and Zafar work their magic.

I'd say though, even on regular Pakistan pitches like the ones we played on against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, I'd still back Pakistan to win.
 
I reckon we beat them as i don't think the SA team looks as strong from a bowling perspective. Rabada is 50/50 to join the team as well but even then that's one bowler. I seen the other bowlers against SL recently and they were nothing special just got wickets due to rash shots from SL batsmen.

For Karachi, I would play:

1) Imam
2) Azhar
3) Saud
4) Babar
5) Ghulam
6) Fawad
7) Rizwan
8) Gohar
9) Zahid (would prefer Zahid but would settle for Yasir Shah)
10) Hasan
11) Shaheen

I reckon it'll be a tad unfair to Zafar who's had only one game and even in that game he did a bit of a job. I don't know about you but i've liked the look of Sajid Khan who's done fairly well this season, i reckon spin will play a role as it comes to day 4/5. Imam i'm not sure merits a return to be honest however with that said we can't go too change happy as that will create issues, only want to do 1 or 2 changes to be honest.

Checked again. Turns out they are even playing the T20Is after the Test matches.
 
I think we are keeping unrealistic expectations from this weakest pakistani team ever. I think drawing the series will be an achievement.
 
We 'll be lucky if we draw the series. SA is in process of building their team and teams like SA/Eng/Aus does well when the build their team. Not like pakistan who has been in rebuilding phase ever since I am watching cricket which is some 30+ yrs

South Africa bowling may not be great but Pakistan bowling is much worse right now.

I’m not sure what pitches to expect. But a flat pitch with pace and carry brings South Africa bowlers into the game. Shan,Abid,Fawad, and Azhar won’t score at the same rate as Sri Lanka batters. South Africa can definitely score at the same rate they have been doing against our attack as NZ, England and Australia tours showed.

Pakistan can win the series, but I don’t think it is a forgone conclusion.
 
Unless there is serious spin Pakistan has no chance to beat SA on these phattas.

South Africa will always outbat Pakistan and our pacers are pathetic on phattas.

Spin is our only hope.

I have said it before but Pakistan will miss the UAE and the dominance they held there because of the nature of the wickets there. Aus, SA , NZ and ENG all had it tough on those slow and low wickets facing king Yasir Shah.

Pak's Test success between 2010-2018 was because of us playing in the UAE.

Doubt it. Lahore is the worst wicket out there and extremely flat. SA batter will feast on our bowlers. The Lahore game could be a draw for that matter if we are lucky.

The Karachi game will be interesting as spin will play a part here. Still flat but spin could play a role on the last day. Toss could be crucial here.
 
This has to be like ENG’s loss to NZ in 99’ or it can be like ENG’s win over PAK in 00’.

Can’t imagine a more mediocre/lower point for PAK post 80’.
 
We will not beat them but we might get a 1 1 draw if the pitches are spinning which i doubt as they will be typical flat karachi wicket

No test will be played at Lahore.
Test venues for Pak vs SA series are Karachi & Rawalpindi.

T20s will be played at Lahore.

Rawalpindi is even worse. It's a good wicket mind you, but spin plays a zilch role there.

SA batsmen will enjoy the extra bounce there feeling at home. Also Nortje, Rabada will be deadly at Pindi's faster track.

If the PCB had been smart they would have played both games in Karachi or one at Multan.
 
Pakistan can easily beat SA at home. Your spinners will be too hot to handle for South Africans.
 
People really overreacting about the current series. Did any of you expect us to win? If India got embarrassed last year, we were always going to be embarrassed as well. A whitewash here was a given. Also Babar Azam is missing, best batsman in the team.
 
Can't predict the outcome really, but it definitely won't be a walk in the park for SA as some people here have predicted. One can expect Pakistan to put up a good fight at home, and SA aren't used to playing in these conditions.

But that said, Pakistan should try to learn from their mistakes and work hard on their bowling attack even if they beat the SAs at home. It will be all too easy for the Pakistan team management to rest on their laurels, only to get thrashed the next time they tour.

India are a beast in batting when it comes to playing in their home series especially.. karun nair a debutant scored 300 in a home series, he is nowhere to be seen in any away tours, similarly rohit sharma and even Kedar jadav will pile up runs to boost their avgs in a home series especially against a SENA side..

For Pakistan is just like SA they are also new to play in their home conditions after playing a long while in UAE against top intl sides...

At the rate now, it is either Babar or burst for Pakistan with the players they have Shan , haris, Abid, Azhar ali, fawad alam to say the least...

Exactly, fans are delusional.. These pitches are not indian rank turners where Ashwin and Jadeja can finish off the opposition in one session of play...

Prince bro, I have already written the same thing what you wrote, in a different thread almost a month ago.

What I have noticed, Rawalpindi pitch has something in it for the fast bowlers. So, we should avoid playing any test there against the teams likes Australia, South Africa & New Zealand. Against these teams, test matches should be played mostly in the southern areas like Karachi or Multan and prepare the spinner friendly tracks there and play your best 2 spinners from the likes of Sajid, Gohar, Yasir, Zahid or Even Nauman. In fact I would suggest PCB to talk to Sindh government and get Hyderabad stadium renovated as well.

Against the teams like Sri Lanka, West indies & Bangladesh, we can play on supporting tracks or on fast pitches i.e. Rawalpindi etc.

If Afghanistan team ever tour, don't give them any pitch which supports spinners.

Almost all the teams take benefits of home advantage why don't/can't we take. I don't see anything to be ashamed of.

Moreover, this year it wasn't possible due to corona, but from next year, I would like to see different conditions and variety of pitches for the Quaid-e-Azam trophy. Most of the matches should be played on supporting pitches but in between I won't mind good bouncy tracks, dust bowls, batting paradise or green wickets.

Indeed most of the SENA countries will smash us into pieces @ Rawalpindi. There is a reason most foreign bats did really well in Pindi in the PSL. Pindi is a lighter version of Johannesburg or Christchurch.

Pak really benefited from playing in the UAE but now we will see Pak's real worth against top teams @ home.
 
Well rumours are floating around that this can be the last assignment of Misbah as head coach. I hope it doesnt impact the performance of the team against SA at home. I think if they are going to remove him its better to do it now and appoint an interim head coach.
