I know maybe it's not possible but just like India would love to see England, Australia and S. Africa play a 3 match series in a single season in the U.A.E. Prepare slow pitches, win all the series and top the rankings.

In the U.A.E we have beaten England twice, Australia was humiliated and with a bit better planning can also beat S.Africa.

100% agreed.
Most of all I'd like to see a 5 match series vs England in UAE. 3 tests would be fine for Australia as well.
play Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for bonus series win as well here and there. India will tour outside Asia, and lose definitely.
Number 1 spot just around the corner.

Beating these sides is fine but if you fail to win series vs SL, NZ and lose a test to WI, it will lose you a lot of rating points.

Yes, India has just shown the Sub-continent teams how to improve your rankings.

Would be good to first not to lose tests to New Zealand and West Indies and then imagining the hypothetical scenarios.

on a second thought I'd like to see a 7 test series with England in UAE, they are really poor against spin, so prepare slowest tracks for our spinners, just play 2 fast bowlers for obligation, bowl a short spell from them and tell them to field for the whole innings, while spinners enjoy the game boosting their averages and claiming number 1 rankings as well.

Well the tough question will be can India stay no. 1 after all the away tours? :kohli2

Easily, if we can draw some matches and squeeze in occasional wins.

Indian mantra is to accumulate as many points they can in the home season, and to not lose many while playing away. Easier said than done.

Well goodluck guys

This is only part of the deal. You will also need to make sure that -

1) You don't get embarrassed in Zimbabwe.
2) You finally get a win in West Indies.
3) You don't get whitewashed away series after series.

IF Pakistan manages that along with whitewashing teams in UAE, you will be all set for the #1 ranking. :misbah

would have been perfect for india have they won the test series 4-0 against aus

No way, can't bear any other match in UAE, we should tell the cricketing world clearly that come to Pakistan, or we will boycott away tours.

alas Indians can't bear the thought of a long home season for Pakistan, because their away tours will start and they will definitely lose their top spot. They are bringing up away tours of Pakistan, trying to change the topic of home series. :))

Aus is #2, Windies(2-1) and NZ(1-1) pretty below, hope you see why the reasoning considering the thread is about ranking.

India should play Pakistan at any neutral venue. You can't be declared the best student in the class if you skip even one subject.

ICC should never grant India or Pakistan the top spot if they don't play against each other. Imagine if Pakistan stops touring Australia and ends up being the no.1 in the world.

Adding:

Not draw a series against Kiwis at home, and not lose a test to lower ranked Windies again at home.

a fine argument indeed.
as Sarfraz said, Indians are afraid of Pakistani team that's why don't want a series, it will simply be a repeat of Aane Do! series, and their hearts will be broken, depression and misery will be there for the fans. So, the only possible way to avoid that is to deny playing a series, so top spot is safe. Only Pakkistan can beat India in Asia.

Actually, Pakistan didn't tour SA, England and Australia for 5 years, and got to #1 ranking for a couple of weeks I think. Pakistani fans didn't mind it one bit.

But your point will have merit if India and Pakistan were neck to neck, fighting for that #1 spot. In that case, Pakistanis indeed could claim to be #1 for hypothetical reasons.

People struggle to watch even a 2 Test series in UAE without falling asleep let alone 5 Tests.

UAE pitches create unattractive, highly attritional cricket. Plus staging costs are expensive there so PCB are unlikely to do such a thing.

ICC should make a new rule that just like ICC tournaments, if India don't want a preplanned series with Pakistan, that means they have forfeited the series, and all winning points go to Pakistan directly, that would be ideal and fair for everyone.

come on jaded you are better than this

you also know india stumble against aus at home which is alarming for tour to follow

Yes, by actually winning Test matches. Who knew that?!

Nothing new, India was unbeaten at home in the 90's, in that decade they clean sweeped England in '93, defeated Australia in '98 also includes a one-off Test in '96, also defeated S. Africa in '96 plus victories against N.Z and Sri Lanka and also a 1-1 draw against the Windies in '95.
All this was achieved when they were considered a decent/average side and we're not even amongst the top 3 in the world.

Good point!

PCB is too dumb to invite them all in one season thus a dominating season can never be achieved.

I'm only as good as this thread's premise,Aus made a lot of changes from coach to players and they performed well accordingly not to forget it was also such a long home season for usfew players injured or carrying injury ,not taking anything away from Aus they were the best visiting team this season.

My point is Pak does well against top teams but even during their home season they don't really dominate big teams throughout the season, and end up messing up one or more tests at home.

Also when we start playing overseas we have so many continuous tours that time no one bats an eyelid.

at new home we also not lost single series in last 9 year where india lost to england 5 years ago :uakmal

Lets compare the records then, in last 9 years

India in India - P 50, W 34, L 5, 70% wins, W/L of 6.8, test losses vs Eng, SA and Aus
Pakistan in UAE - P 26, W 14, L 5, 55% win, W/L of 2.8, test losses vs SL, NZ, WI

Do your caclulations on what loses you more ranking points? A series loss vs a high ranked team or tests losses to no 6,7 and 8 :P

Not trying to take anything away from the tremendous achievement of winning tests consistently despite not playing at real home venue.

so you are comparing win ratio of two side in which one side have played double of matches than the other

i am impressed with your calculations :salute

blatant lies.

The greatest Indian test team that defeated Australia back in 2001, lost in Zimbabwe the very next month :))

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63935.html

as expected only lies can defend Indians.

whitewash incoming in South Africa, say goodbye to number 1 spot, say hello to away tours :))

don't change the topic, stay on topic
The all conquering pak side lost to zim at home is more lol worthy than india losing in zim isn't it

PCB won't allow it. Pitches in the UAE do need to be improved as well. Current ones don't make for entertaining cricket.
