Can Pakistan still qualify for the semi-finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy?

I will agree the defeat was painful but we should remember that Pakistan is still alive in the tournament and would need to come back strongly to qualify for the Semis.

If the team and fans stuck up regretting over today's loss then how can the team proceed further into the tournament?

I believe Pakistan will win against SL and have to play out of their skins to defeat SA. Tough but not impossible.
 
The margin of defeat was too big. Pakistan will have to beat both SL /SA and expect SL/SA to lose from India.
 
Dont really care what happens against the other teams, was only interested in the India game. This team is just not capable of beating India (that also convincingly), nothing else really matters to be honest.
 
No. With one win (though have doubts whether Pak can beat SL) they can't go to semis.
 
To be fair, Pakistan in their current state have no chance of beating the Saffers. I think that man for man, the Saffers are as good as the Indians if not better.

The only hope for Pakistan will be to beat SL, and pray that the match against SA is washed out.

They can win against SL but winning against SA might be even tougher than tonight.. Unless SA choke in group stages this time

Or South Africa beats India by a big margin and Sri Lanka put up a fight against them. I don't see how we can beat South Africa though, apart from Shadab Khan doing something special.

Still won't happen because of SAF's 100 run win & PAK's 100+ loss. In fact if that match is washed out IND/SAF will be through.

Still won't happen because of SAF's 100 run win & PAK's 100+ loss. In fact if that match is washed out IND/SAF will be through.
 
India was nervous today, Dhawan n Rohit were out of form. Kohli was also not in runs, both he and Yuvi gave you a catch that were dropped....

India played in overcast conditions but you threw a spinner with a new ball

You removed slips in overcast conditions and gave a darter the last over

Your batting is weak and won't chase 300 in this CT

You won't win against SA and your tournament is over.

You should drop all of Hafeez, Malik, Azhar, Wahab, Shehzad and just select new players with a attitude.

In that case - we have to hope India absolutely demolish SAF.

Even then - it will come down to NRR.

Our best bet is to somehow beat SAF and SL
 
I hope we get beaten convincingly in the next 2 games. It's time to really look how bad we are. We always from time to time mask our problems with flukey wins. Pakistan needs a major overhaul. We need someone to go out and do their job and find a new set of players. That is the only way forward. If we get into the semis we will have the same team for another 4 years which is unacceptable.
 
We need to win our remaining matches then see how the other ones play out. Pak need a big win that could come against Sri Lanka.
 
On paper there is no chance of Pakistan beating the Proteas.

But don't forget that the Proteas have a history in choking in ICC knockout competitions

SPOT ON - there is no single deserving reason why this joke of a team which is comprised of never have beens, losers and raw kids should progress - not a single reason!

I expect similar thrashings from all the remaining professional teams with a work hard ethic!
 
have you seen the Pakistani team??

we are literally carrying 5-6 passengers who literally can't bow or bat (and I'm including Imad here)

SA are gonna give Pakistan an even worse phanti, the SL contest will be closer but I dont expect Pakistan to win that either

We have to swallow a bitter pill and clean house First. Using the same tried and Failed players is not going to fix anything, and for a while we will have to put up with few defeats. The world of Sports is very cruel .... Kill or be Killed. We badly needed a swift kick in the rear. Thank the Indians, they let us have one. I just hope the PCB brain trust does not come out with some nonsensical statement and tell us all is well and it is actually as planned !!!!!
 
After seeing today's performance, I doubt we would win a single game. This loss wasn't a one off. It's how terrible our team is at the moment. No leaders in this team.

Nothing will happen, every tournament over the last decade we have been getting humiliated and promised changes, yet the same passengers always make their way back to the team.
 
Lanka would fancy there chances against Pakistan.

I do not see Pakistan beating them easily.

India and SA will be through, they will beat both Pakistan and Lanka .

India vs SA will determine the group topper.

Bhai this is PCB, if Inzi gets the boot then "untested" beauties like Iqbal Qasim or Haroon Rashid will be ready to take the chief selector's spot from him.

We can defend 300 against SA with shadab.
Rabada and tahir aside there bowling is not special.
We need to win the toss and bat first.
It can be done.
Need to play left hand right hand combo at the top
 
Honestly, after today's performance, I'd be satisfied if we can leave the tournament with even one win from the three games.
 
Beat SL by selecting our actual best possible team instead of the "experienced seniors". Then do the same for SA and hope they choke like 2015 WC.
 
India and South Africa will get through. Honestly the entertaining part of this tournament will start in the semis when of England or Australia will play South Africa and the other side face India.

Bhai haroon rashid was much better than Inzy

It will surely be an upgrade. I'd even take Moin Khan over Inzy at this point.
 
Have to win their next two games.

PAK's last match will be the final one of the group stage. This is good as the NRR situation will be clear-cut going into the match.

But looking at this team, it won't win a single game. :))
 
Not sure what to make of last night. Yes, it was a horror show, but Pakistan are always a bundle of nerves against India in these events. We can't say what will happen against South Africa.

But the RR thrashing they got makes it seem highly unlikely that they can trash South Africa to the extent that they beg for mercy.
 
We'll be lucky to lose to SL respectifully and this is me being generous and in light of the transition SL is going through at the moment.

Another mashing is on the cards by the saffers ......,
 
I don't think pak is going to beat SL let alone SA they are just downright pathetic team.

If India win all three matches then beating Srl and SA will.be enough for Pakistan to go through.

Run rate won't matter
 
India has a really good chance of beating SA.... if the Pak-SA match gets washed out, and we beat Sri Lanka by 300 runs.. we will head to the SEMI FINALS !!! YEAAA

Do not write off a team after one game. Yes Pakistan looked woeful yesterday but all it needs is a single bright spark in next match to get them going again. Can't rule that out.

After the recent performance, Do you see any chance of Pakistan winning the next 2 matches and qualifying for the Semi-finals?
 
Will lose the South Africa match and win the Sri Lanka game with a century from a long term failure who then keeps his place for another year or two.

Having been dismissed from the tournament, most of the players will enjoy shopping in London , eating and drinking and everything else and generally living off the fruits of their shambolic performance.

A week or two later they will arrive slowly back to Pakistan or their next money making assignment e,g County contract or T20- league .

If you think they give a monkeys about performing for the national team you are sadly mistaken.
 
Beat SA, SL. Hope Rain spoils Ind-SL game and SA beat India.
 
Pakistan is not winning any game in this CT. SA has several batsmen who can make use of these flat pitches. SL has power hitters too and they are capable of posting 300+ scores.
 
What is the scenario for us to qualify for the Semi-Finals?

Assuming we win this is the simplest way to beat SL and then hope India beat both SL and SA?
 
Yeah, that looks to be the simplest way because Pak's NRR is very poor, even after today's win I think it will be around -2.6 or so and SA's after today's loss around +1.5 or so. Assuming match stops now.
Or other way though looks not very possible is, India loses both it's matches, then Pak and SA will be through.

First, we need to win today's match.

Keep spirits in control and repeat the show with Sri Lanka however the million dollar question, can Pak break the norm and be consistent?

If India loses out of semis due to rain, the hell will break lose on world cricket. Trust me on that.
 
Simple, win today & against SRL & expect SAF doesn't get 2 points against IND.

Another equation is IND losing to SRL & PAK beats SRL - then SAF-IND 'll be QF.

Not really, if SA beats India then RSA, Ind and Pak (assuming they both defeat lanka) will be tied on 4 points each, the top two team on basis of NRR will go through which will most likely be India and SA.
 
If Srilanka beat India tomorrow then both the remaining games would be virtual quarter finals. That would be interesting to see if rain doesn't interfere. I'd love to see that.
 
Hopefully beat srilanka by good margin 80 runs or by 8 wkts with 5-6 overs left

Sri Lanka beat India tomorrow.

Then both remaining games become a quarter final, us with the easier draw.

This game is a washout for sure and Pakistan are ahead on duck and Lewis.

SA cannot beat this Indian team, if they couldn't handle Pakistan bowler then they will not stand a chance against Indian pacers who are better than Pakistans
 
Pak - SL game is the last of the group so we will know the equation. I never thought but we really have a chance now.
If we somehow qualify for semis that will be massive.

PAK has an advantage that PAK v SL is the last match of the group stages so we will know what margin of victory is required to qualify.
 
A lot of research shows that for individualls with a "positive self-worth" ..how your ingroup does is what makes you happy i.e., if you are a pakistani then how your pakistan team does is what should give you your self-worth. However research also shows that for individuals with a "negative self-worth" their happiness comes from preventing further propogating negative emotions from increasing which happens when an outgroup performs well so their happiness depends on an outgroup performing badly i.e., if you a pakistani then you are wishing for the indian team to lose the next game irrespective of what happens to the pakistani team.

So as a psychatrist I typically have look at the posters and code which ones repeatedly have a positive self-worth and which ones have a negative self-worth. Though I wont report who the posters are, I would qualify that some of the indivudals here (if they were under therapy with me) would be prescriibed ways to improve their self-worth since they seem to have some problems on that front.
