I highly doubt it, but I've heard hyped Indians mention it as a possibility.

Tough.

On a good day on a small ground against a trundler attack, all stats align, he has the array of strokes and stamina to do it.

If he is going to do it, he will do it in the next 2 or 3 yrs.

If he scores , it will be

1) Death of cricket
2) FTB allegations
3) He can never score a run on green track

If others score ,

WHAT A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT. LEGEND. FULL STOP.

Had Babar Azam scored 150 against the same attack on the same ground, he would have been hailed as the best since sliced bread.

It's possible.

In his 264, Rohit Sharma had 58 dots.

Even turning a few of those into 4s/6s would have sufficed. It's not an unthinkable feat.

He is not going to do it against Aus/SA etc. Yes he has a double against Aus. But if Starc, Hazlewood play, he will not do it.

If he is going to do it, he will do it against Lanka/BD/WI attacks. If Ireland or some minnow cross his paths on one of those days, then 300 is entirely possible.

Babar can never score over 150. He is too selfish to play that fast unfortunately.

Probably against Zimbabwe, Ireland or Afghanistan he can.

I feel like you need to be Afridi opening the innings-esque in terms of being belligerent from ball 1, but chances are, if the player is going at it from the start,

1) He's either a hack meant to get a quick start, hence lacking long innings quality

2) Not got the situational IQ which corresponds well to batting IQ to have the quality to make such a mammoth score

If anyone can, it's Rohit. If he can bat from start till the end and get a century in faster time than he normally does before teeing off and maintaining strike, then he's the only batsman who has the combination of

1) Batting high enough in the order

2) The quality to score huge centuries, which is well documented I can say

3) The physical fitness to sustain such an onslaught

I think at his peak, Gayle going for it vs a trundling outfit of bowlers from the start could have done so, but alas.

I hope not. It would be as bad as 952. A double century every two years is alright, but anything more just ruins ODIs.

Probably no. That 264 itself was insane. ATG knock even though bowling was poor but 264 is 264.

Yes for sure yes.India are facing Ireland next year and Afghanistan for ODIs so he will for sure do it against this much poor bowling attack. He can smash Aus for 200 and cant he smash Afg or Ire for 300

Gayle, ABDV (if he opens), Rohit sharma, Guptill are the most likely to do that. But typically what happens is some random guy would do that unexpectedly.

Obviously, this is a Pakistani forum :)) you're always going to get biased comments against Indian achievements in cricket and Pakistan achievements. It's a shame that we can't have sane and unbiased opinions all the time but I guess it adds flavour.

Also, I don't think Rohit can do it, he starts off slowly too often, if he can score his first century off 70-80 balls against a weak attack on a batting wicket then I give him a 60% chance to score the triple.

Another important point you missed is taking most of the strike.

Generally batsmen face 50% of strike during a partnership. An opener ends up with 145-155 balls in an ODI inning if he lasts till the end. But Rohit Sharma has habbit of taking most of the strike in the match.

Since 1995, there have been only 17 instances of batsmen facing more than 160 deliveries in a matches. Most number of balls faced was by Rohit Sharma in the match he scored 264.

Add to that he is the only batsman who has last more than 160 deliveries twice. He scored 171 off 163 balls at Perth last year. In his short career, he has lasted more than 150 balls 4 times, while no one else has done it probably more than twice.

He is perfect player to get those big scores. When he faces 180+ balls, he can get close to 300 too.

1. Unbelievable fitness, someone like Kohli looks tired after facing 100-120 balls in India. Almost all batsmen lose steam once they cross that 130 deliveries mark. On the other hand Sharma looks like he has came to bat just now.

2. Extra 15-20 balls. Those extra 20 balls give him 60+ runs the way he bats. He scored 91 runs in 26 deliveries during his last double hundred. He even managed to score 50 in 13 balls, which is 2nd fastest 50 runs which I have seen after Yuvi in World T20 in 2007. Once he manages to farm strike for 10 more balls, he can get close 300 too.

If BCCI get involved, even 500 is very possible. You need to bring the boundary to the pitch border.

The way most of games are pre-scripted these days, 300 is also very much possible.

This is true but he is not capable of scoring that many in an ODI unless he bats over 200 balls. Does not have a clutch in him

Agreed with your 1st paragraph.

On topic 300 is possible in the future maybe not by Rohit but someone can easily score 300 with the length of boundaries and flatness of pitches against a trundling attack it can be done.. Remember Gayle scored 175 in a T20 so if we get a new Gayle or Rohit in future we will see 300 score..

Of all the 200 s in ODI , the latest one by Rohit came on the biggest ground.

Against the dummiest of opponents and the flattest of tracks.

Anyway, he would be exposed once playing Pakistan on a seam-friendly track.

Well India is not the only one playing this dummiest team. A certain team played in UAE and SA played against them at home as well on smaller grounds. I dont remember any of them scoring either.
