Can Sarfaraz Ahmed reverse the fortunes of our Test team like he did with the ODI team?

Well we all know we are on a terrible Test run having lost 7 of our last nine tests and plummeted to #6 in the rankings frpm #1 just a year ago

On the other hand we sit pretty in ODIs having won the Champions Trophy in our last assignment. However it is hard to forget that our ODI position was much, much worse than what our Test fortunes are even right now.

But since Sarfaraz took over captaincy we have won both our ODI assignments under him whereas we had been losing series after series before regardless of who was captain (Azhar or before him, Misbah) or coach (Arthur or before him, Waqar)

So clearly Sarfaraz's appointment has been the catylyst for change in our ODI performances!

The question is can his appointment repeat the trick in Tests? Obv man to man we are a weaker team

test captaincy is different from limited overs captaincy

sarfraz's aggressive and hyper style of captaincy has worked wonders in limited overs but that may not necessarily work in tests

i fear that he might lead to our first test series defeat in the uae since 2002 at some point in the future. misbah was defensive but he made pakistan a tough nut to crack in the uae.

i don't expect sarfraz to fail but i don't see him excelling in tests like he has in limited overs. we have always been a better limited overs team than a test team. that trend only changed for a few yrs when misbah was captain.

The selective use of stats ......

http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/content/team/7.html?template=results

3 tests - Windies away - won 2-1
3 tests - Australia - away - lost 3-0
2 tests - new zealand - away - lost 2 -0
3 tests - Windies - uae home - won 2 -1

To make your point, you drew the line at the last uae test against windies that pakistan lost and ignored the two wins from that series ..... why?

The catalyst was the abysmal defeat against India in the group match and the rallying of troops by mickey and malik..... we have been over this many times...

I am not so sure, depends if the new players can settle in quickly and are any good against decent teams. Also, how much of Sarfraz non-performance will be a hindrance to the team. More than ever he will need to perform with the bat and behind stumps... One thing is for sure that he will not get away with hiding in test cricket.

Changing fortune in ODI will mean consistent performance in ODI and being among the top 3-4 rank. Yes, winning cups matter more, but true change means winning consistently. If Pakistan goes back to losing most of the ODIs in the next 1-2 years then it was just a flash in the pan performance.

:)) This is the OP's new tack now.

Apparently the turnaround was all Sarfraz and nothing to do with Arthur.
