Can Sarfraz Ahmed ever match Kamran Akmal's masterclass vs India in Karachi in 2006?

Yes Sarfraz has done brilliantly for us and is the better player by far but can he ever play such an iconic innings against the odds?

Probably not, but he has surpassed him as Test WK batsman already.

He is a tremendous player for us in this format but I'm concerned over his batting form. Hasn't played a meaningful innings in Tests for a long time now.

Don't think he has the guts. Gets too hyper and jumpy before throwing it away. The innings vs South Africa in the 2015 WC is a classic example where he got excited to get to 50 and ran himself out, as well as his over celebration when reaching a 50 early on.

Kami quietly goes about his business. Good player when you need him the most. Mucks it up sometimes, but who doesn't.

Forget Sarfraz, I doubt many batsmen in the world could play such an innings.

One of the ATG knocks.

Did he need to? One knock should not define a person career, it is just like saying that how many spinners can achieve the type of figure Joshi achieved against great loi side SA.

That inning by Kamran was a serious fluke. We all found out how good he actually was in the 8 years that followed that test. That is more than a lifetime to find your mojo.

I honestly thought that Today was going to be the day when Sarfraz was going to be play an inning like Kamran...But......

:)))

Anyway, one of the most overrated players on PP...

Has been in poor form for a while now.

Genius..Top is his overall stats...Bottom is is his performance after that Karachi 100.

He had scored just over a 1000 runs at the conclusion of that Karachi 100, Avr after Karachi 100 is almost identical to his overall average, so is strike rate. Also he only played test cricket for 4.5 more years since that Karachi 100. NOT 8 as you like to believe.

Has Sarfaraz Ahmed ever played a International Test Match in Karachi or against India??

Akmal played test matches for 5 years after that knock with no credible performance whatsoever..

What he do in England South Africa Australia or NZ?

He does not have to play once in a blue moon knock like Kamran as long as he can maintain a 40+ average.

Sarfraz is already better than Kamran in all formats.

He already matched that in Sri Lanka last year

I hope he shows resilience. But at least this slump will give some pause to the 'safaraz for president' brigade

lol what?? Fluke?

That innings was the difference between winning and losing that series!

From 39 for 5 to taking the score to 250 requires a some serious batting. Had Pakistan been all out for 100-150, Pakistani shoulders would have dropped. That innings gave a lot of belief to the team.

As an Indian, I was at awe at the innings. How much ever I hated it, it was a masterclass.

I also remember him and Razzaq drawing out the first test in India in 05 helped us draw that series.

Nowhere near Kamran's performance when you put it in context.

Kamran has played the two best innings by a Pakistani WK batsman in Test cricket in the last 15 odd years.

And dropped 80+ catches... which have cost us countless matches and countless players their careers, don't look at episodes in isolation, he was given the reward for this innings the shape of further 5 years where he failed to produce any sort of decent performance in Test matches specially away from home

It's very hard for few folks to digest Kami's successes. Very cowardly mentality this. Where you only focus on a player's negatives and not appreciate him for his contributions to your country.

That Kamran knock was one of the greatest of all time but what we need more then anything is consistency rather then once in a blue moon specials.

That was an ATG knock and many of our specialist batsmen would struggle to replicate such a knock, so unfair to Sarfraz.

He may fail on this NZ tour, but he'll definitely score in Aus and the pitches will be better suited for his style of play (unless Aus prepare green pitches is well).

Nostalgia.....

Coincidence with this thread, 10 years later.

Today at the same venue, Wapda were 73/6 and Kamran Akmal scored a century with Wapda ending with 273.

Highest scorer of QEA 2016 now with 4 hundreds.

Time for Sarfraz to step up and play a career defining inning. If he does, I will take his inning over Kamran's vs India.

If Sarfraz scores a century tomorrow, it will be a greater effort than the hundreds of Kamran vs India in 2005 and 2006.

Lol. Impossible. Rahat will get 0. Best we can get is 130.

I know it is extremely unlikely. Kamran had Razzaq on other end for support. That is why if somehow Sarfraz defies all odds (again highly unlikely) and scores a century tomorrow, it will go down as one of the best innings ever played by a Pakistani batsman.

Lol if Sarfaraz Scores a hundred tomorrow it will be the innings of the decade
