Azhar Ali was retained in the team ahead of Shadab Khan today. Simple question, can he do worse than Azhar Ali as a limited overs batsman ?

Hafeez can slot in as a role of opening batsman along with Fakhar Zaman. Even Shadab Khan can do probably better as an opening batsman as a limited overs batsman.

No. Going in with 10 players will be better than playing with azhar. Next game Azhar has to be be replaced by Shadab/Haris

aliasad1998 has summarized it beautifully. Azhar is pulling our team back. Coming back to your question, Shadab is a very, very good batsman compared to Azhar.

shadab is actually a much better batsmen than haffez, azhar, imad and fahim... its a shame tht he hasnt been given a game as yet where he can show his betting talent...

Azhar is meant to play an anchor role. He is supposed to bat for a good amount of time. That way collapses are averted.

When was the last time Pakistan had a spectacular collapse

Shadab Khan has to replace one of the dead woods Hafeez or Azhar Ali... As simple as that

And when does he play the anchor role? He makes a hole for others and eventually falls in it himself as well

instead of azhar, hafeez should be dropped

Azhar will atleast prevent collapses, give you 30 or 40 at the start and he has more form than hafeez.

Shadab can come in place of hafeez, but with 3 left handers (Morgan, stokes and Ali) its a bit of a gamble, whether you'd want hafeez or shadab?

one part says, that Hafeez may well be able to contain these left handers who are in form.

another part says that its England, not the best of leg spin players, perhaps, so shadab should play. However, keeping in mind they are facing legspin day in and day out through Adil in nets. I'd play Hafeez still just because of overs to the left handers and pray that he makes 20 odd at the very least

Harris Sohail should come in for hafeez.

Sohail , malik and fakhar can chip in with few overs easily.

In his 48 ODIs, Azhar has prevented exactly 0 collapses

In fact, Azhar is usually the guy triggering the collapse

Don't want him near the line up vs England

watching fakhar bat like the way he is, is making me miss sharjeel even more. and the fact that sharjeel was actually good against the short ball.

the could be's of pakistani cricket

Brilliant point and a fine question indeed

Sharjeel and Fakhar would have given us some good starts. Such a shame that we may never see this duo due to Sharjeels greed.

Perfect combination for England. Imad unfortunately doesn't fit into the equation, Hafeez slides into his spot. Use his experience down the order, rather than perpetually making next to nothing up top. Unfortunately, his ambitions outweigh his skill-set- thus has to be demoted down the order. It really is that simple.
