CAS decision: Umar Akmal fined PKR 4.25m & eligible to reintegrate into competitive cricket

Yes but I would like his chapter to close once for all so we can stop thinking what could have been.

He’s a lost cause as a player, but he is still entertainment value. His Instagram and tweets get more attention than a Haider Ali 50

Media reports say that:

Umar Akmal has been unable to pay the fine imposed on him by International Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) and his rehab program has not started due to non-payment of the fine.

Umar Akmal has requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to allow him pay the amount in installments but the PCB has demanded proof of his inability to pay the fine.

That’s surprising.

Akmal should fine the pay 25.4 million from PCB. Rich is he!

Just dock it from his next PSL paycheque. Why are they being so fussy with him on this? It’s a pandemic and maybe he doesn’t have enough to sustain his household at the moment!

thats not pcb's problem.

The PCB will get its money back. So what’s the issue?

the responsibility is on Umar Akmal to pay, not on PCB to make credit services for him.

Umar Akmal is the guilty party here.

Infact, if he doesnt pay the amount, he won't be eligible to play for PSL or any other league.

I think Umar has a choice now. Not pay the fine and give up on PCB related cricket matches, or pay the fine and get the nocs needed from PCB to play leagues.

I wonder if in law the court could forcefully auction of your assets when it comes to paying off such fines. If so, than i hope this happens to Umar Akmal

Zero sympathy for people who are involved in fixing or knowingly hide info related to fixing.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected cricketer Umar Akmal’s request of paying a fine in installments, ARY News reported.

The 30-year-old Umar is bound to pay a fine of PKR4.25million, imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on February 26. Umar told PCB that due to financial difficulties he can not pay the lump sum amount.

PCB rejected his request after reviewing the evidence provided by Umar Akmal, rejected the application. The right-handed batsman will be part of the rehabilitation program under the PCB Anti-Corruption Code only after paying a lump sum fine of PKR4.25million.

Remember, CAS reduced Umar’s 18-month ban has been reduced to 12 months. Akmal was suspended from all forms of the game after PCB found him involved in suspicious activities before PSL 5.

In an investigation, PCB found him guilty and put a three-year ban on him. The cricketer appealed against PCB’s decision. Ex-Supreme Court judge Mr. Justice (retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, in his capacity as an independent adjudicator, heard the appeal and had reduced Akmal’s ban to 1.5 years from 3 years.

Akmal wasn’t satisfied with the decision and appealed in CAS further. In reply, PCB also consulted with CAS for an increase in Akmal’s ban.

It seems that Umar Akmal is now eligible for the rehabilitation program after paying the complete amount of the fine on Tuesday.

According to sources, Umar Akmal has submitted the required amount, in full, to the board officials. However, he will have to wait for further updates regarding his progress since the officials in the anti-corruption unit are currently busy with matters pertaining to the upcoming resumption of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six.

He might have paid it to make himself available for PSL ?

But as per some reliable sources he has to complete rehabilitation which also include giving lectures to youngster to educate them about fixing. :amir

In the days of Covid - he can do from the comfort of his home or a team hotel!

He shouldn't ever play again for Pakistan, a constant disappointment.

Ya but as we all know Misbah is desperate regarding middle order...
& Waseem can anyway be easily get influenced with few social media trend if he perform in PSL .
So you never know in Pak cricketing world.

The middle order conundrum can easily be solved with the inclusion of Sohaib Moqsood and getting Imad Wasim in there or see if Rizwan and Babar can play in the middle order, you can then have Fakhar along with Manzoor open.

Umar Akmal is far from a good answer to your middle order woes.

Controversial Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has paid a hefty fine of 4.5 million rupees to PCB, which now entitles him to join the Anti-Corruption rehabilitation program of the board.

A source in the PCB confirmed that Akmal had deposited the fine imposed on him by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in February while disposing off cases filed by the batsman and the PCB.

"Umar has deposited the full amount of 4.5 million rupees with the board which means he is now eligible to start the rehab program of the Anti-Corruption code of the board," the source said.

"But practically it will take some time before Akmal can resume his cricket career as his rehab program will take some time since the anti-corruption unit of the PCB is presently busy with the Pakistan Super League matches to be held in Abu Dhabi next month," the source said.

Earlier the board had rejected Akmal's request that he be allowed to pay a 4.5 million rupees fine in instalments to pave the way for him to return to cricket after serving a ban since February 2020 for breaching clauses of the Anti-Corruption Code.

Akmal had pleaded with the board in an application that due to the imposed ban, he was not in a financially strong position and be allowed to pay the fine instalments.

But the PCB rejected Umar's request and directed him to pay the full fine or he would not be able to start his rehabilitation program as per the Anti-Corruption code.

Akmal, who will turn 31 this month, has not played for Pakistan since November 2019 when he last appeared in a T20 series at Lahore against Sri Lanka while his last Test appearance for his country was way back in late 2011 while his last ODI series was in March-April 2019 against Australia.

Even elder brother Kamran had offered to pay the fine to the PCB.

Earlier CAS had reduced an 18-month ban on Akmal to 12 months for breaching the PCB's Anti-Corruption code but hit him with the fine.

The Lausanne-based body had disposed of the appeals of both PCB and Akmal in February.

Since Umar had already served the 12-month ban as he was suspended from February 2020 he was eligible to return to cricket after paying the fine.

Hearing hes coming back, as if QG was not blockbuster entertainment already. Sarfraz + Shinwari + Ummi bhai. Paisay pooray! :afridi

Loving it! :sree

Umar will teach the new kids about tik tok stuff and how to replace water with fat.
Will he get to play PSL ?

So he paid US$29,000 as his CAS penalty?

That’s much more consistent with legal costs than punishment.

An overweight, out of form and one handed Umar Akmal walks into the current ODI and T20 squads.

Umar Akmal hasn’t played since 2019 and his competitors have failed to put the final nail in the coffin and end UA’s career.

He will be back, and Pakistan cricket will only benefit from it.

I can see where you're coming from. At best, he can be described as a utility player (can keep wickets, can bat just about anywhere), but he is not consistent enough.

He was a prominent member of the Pakistan team when Misbah was around, so I think he does have a chance to get recalled, but will he ever improve? That's the biggest unanswered question.

If Umar Akmal can bat to what his potential dictated years ago, then it will be beneficial for Pakistan, but anything other than that would be a step back.

He is a liability as a wicket-keeper, is terribly unfit at the moment, is a poor fielder, and upon all else an inconsistent batsman.
