Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate from Muzaffargarh Haroon Sultan Bukhari has termed it ‘haram’ (forbidden by Islam) to cast vote for women.

Haroon is contesting elections from the National Assembly constituency NA-184 against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI’s) female candidate Zehra Basit Sultan Bukhari, who is also reportedly his sister-in-law.

Haroon made this contentious claim while addressing a public meeting in his constituency.

The PML-N candidate said he is bound to the directions of religion, adding he would abstain from casting vote to a woman as it is considered ‘haram’ in Islam.

Haroon has served as provincial minister for social welfare & Bait-ul-Mall in the previous tenure of the PML-N government.

He is PMLN candidate on 3 NA seats and is their ex minister which tell you a lot about their mentality

But don't expect an uproar from commercial liberals on this, no one would ask "Ye hai tabdeeli" or "ye hai naya Pakistan".

And the fact that the statement is aimed at PTI female leader, no one would really care.

Inko masla sirf tab nazar aate he jab PTI ki favor main ho kuch

Since this statement is not from some PTI fellow its ok for desi liberals to stay silent and put it under the carpet.

Elections themselves are haram if you take the hardline Islamic view, and judging by this fellow's appearance, he does seem to be a hardliner.

Pathetic statement.

Imagine the reaction if a PTI leader said this to a PML-N woman candidate.
