Hey guys! Its that time again, lets appreciate Champions Trophy and wish it continues for it is a must have event!

For some reasons, The CT has always been my favorite competition in Cricket. Its as serious as it needs to be, while at the same time not winning one doesn't quite feel as tragic as the bigger competition i.e., the WC. So it seems like a jackpot thing in the context of the game. If you win, you have bragging rights wrt a global competition, if you lose its CT anyway who cares just like Pakistan beating India there doesn't count!:kapil

Anyway back to the question, my favorite edition so far gas been the 2000 ICC Knock out in Kenya! Although India lost the final to NZ, but i absolutely loved that edition for the standard of cricket played, the format, the players involved, the atmosphere etc. It gave a carnival sort of feeling. Watch this video of it and it will give you major throwback :-

Not sure which year it was but the one in which Pakistan faced WI in a knockout game and Phil Wallace opened the inning by hitting first ball of the inning bowled by Wasim for a SIX.

ICC knockout tournaments were always more interesting and intense.

That was the first CT tournament ever in 1998 held in Bangladesh. Yeah it was such an exciting Start to that match, Wallace was batting like modern day T20 player which was unbelievable at that time.

However, Pakistan still won that match.

Thanks.

Wallace indeed batted like a modern T20 player back then. Guys like him and Ricardo Powell would have been superstars in this era.

My favorite CT moment has to be the 2009 CT game vs India.

Loved the way MoYo and Malik rebuilt our innings by milking Harbhajan and the other spinners after we were 65/3.

It remains my favorite Malik century. Great game and glad we won!

My favorite was 2006 CT where the west indies team just started whacking every team back and forth. Though they folded unexpectedly in the final but before that everyone was supporting them due to their style of play. It was almost like supporting SL in 1996 WC. WI was the last team expected to go to the finals but their aggressive style just blew everyone away. On TV, every pundit was comparing that team to the 70's/80's team. The term "Kaali aandhi agyi he" was very popular on TV back then. Gayle, Chanderpaul, lara were all brilliant in that tournament.

My favorite match was Aus vs west indies 1st match where jerome taylor got hatrick. That was one hell of a match with brilliant batting by lara & co.

Also loved the edition in which England choked once more in a tournament final. WI of all teams won that tournament.

I am proud to say that I do not have a single memory of any moment in any Champions Trophy (or League or whatever it's called) match.

I discovered on this board a week ago that India won the last one. I haven't a clue who won the others.

I'm delighted that the OP enjoys it, but to me it's just a contrived Made-For-Indian TV competition.

And this year's one makes me cross, because it stole the place of the World Test Championship!

Aamir's wicket of Sachin in 2009
Yuvraj's 84 on debut against McGrath Lee
Gayle's innings vs South Africa in 2006
South Africa's epic choke against India in 2002 after Gibbs retired hurt.
2004 Final in which WI were 147-8 chasing 219 managed to win.

Champions trophy was a memorable tournament before 2007 after which too much Cricket has reduced it's importance. It was a one off knock-out tournament during its earliest stages.

It was first held in Bangladesh 1998, followed by
Kenya 2000
Sri Lanka 2002
England 2004
India 2006
SA 2009
England 2013

The first tournament held in 1998 was won by SA by defeating West Indies in the finals and to this day remains the only ICC trophy for SA. The tournament had a lot of exciting matches including one where Chris Haris of NZ scored 18 runs of the last over to win the match against Zimbabwe.

The 2000 tournament was held in Kenya, it was another exciting tournament. Memorable matches include India v/s Australia, Sachin aggressively charging against Mc Grath and hitting him for Sixes, Zaheer bowling the perfect Yorker to Steven Waugh to seal the deal for India. Pakistan also lost a nerve wrecking Semis against NZ who made it to the finals. India had a great run in that tournament until the finals where Chris Haris and Chris Cairns snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and shocked India. It was a very painful defeat at that time.

The 2002 tournament was held in Sri Lanka during the monsoon season. India again started on a confident note and reached the semis without being challenged. However in the Semis against SA, the Saffers were cruising at one stage before Hershelle Gibbs had to retire hurt due to cramps which followed by a miraculous collapse earned a thrilling win for India. The Final of the tournament between India and Sri Lanka was washed out by the rains twice inspite of having a reserved day. India certainly felt hard done by the weather as they looked favorites to win the finals but had to share the tournament win with SL.

The 2004 tournament was held in England. The tournament was won by West Indies by defeating England in an epic thriller of a final. Ian Bradshaw played a memorable knock after West Indies were nearly defeated. Other memorable matches of the tournament include the Indo-Pak thriller where Afridi bashed Irfan Pathan and sealed the match in favour of his team. This was the first Pakistani win over India in an ICC tournament.

The 2006 tournmanent was held in India. Australia won the tournament by defeating West Indies in the finals. Don't remember too many memorable moments in the tournament apart from a Hat-Trick by Jerome Taylor against Australia and an Below 100 run collapse by Pakistan against SA.

The 2009 tournament was held in South Africa. It was period from when onwards the tournament started losing popularity. Memorable matches include Indo-Pak clash where Malik scored an epic ton and won the match for Pakistan. Pakistan were once outplayed by a resilient NZ team in the semis.

The 2013 Tournament was held in England. The Final was won by India in a thrilling encounter after the match was reduced to 20 overs due to rain. India inspite of putting up a low score managed to defend the target against England.

Another bitter Test Cricket fan, probably hurt over the fast losing relevance of his favorite format.

2000,1998,2002,2006 and then 2013 in that order. 2004 edition was rather boring IMO and I don't remember the 2009 edition much either.

Cairns-Haris partnership in Final is my best memory of CT.

In between I remember a Pakistan Match where someone dropped Eliot who went on to win the match.

Gracious, I can't recall anything else. I think CT isn't a format for cricketing memories.

Good for much needed Cash.

Shakib and Stokes have given two more members ke performances and made this tourney a hit already.
