Following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino by mutual consent after just one season at Stamford Bridge, speculation is rife about who will take the helm at Chelsea next. The club is known for its rapid turnover of managers making the appointment crucial for their future success.

Pochettino was Chelsea's sixth permanent manager in five years, following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter which led to Frank Lampard taking charge on a temporary basis at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Potential candidates include well-known figures such as Zinedine Zidane, who has a proven track record with Real Madrid and Julian Nagelsmann, the young tactical prodigy previously at Bayern Munich. Other names in the mix might be Chelsea legends like Frank Lampard who could return for another stint, or rising stars in management like Roberto De Zerbi.

The decision will significantly impact Chelsea's strategy and performance in the upcoming season.

Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim should be one of the likely candidates for the job.

Thomas Frank is another option added. Can he be the one to be reached out to? Brentford Manager currently.

There was a joke going around about the Blues( The Birmingham version) under Barry Fry that at once stage he had signed so many players, that many had to fight for a place on the team bus, well thats Chelsea atm

McKenna, Maresca & Frank on Chelsea job shortlist

Chelsea have drawn up an early shortlist of managerial options, which includes Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

The Blues are in search of a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino after he left the club by mutual consent on Tuesday.

Contact has been made with McKenna, 38 – who won promotion from the Championship with Ipswich Town this season – but there is competition from Brighton, who are looking to replace Roberto de Zerbi.

Manchester United are also reportedly interested in McKenna, who would cost more than £4m in compensation.

He is believed to be the frontrunner as Chelsea target a quick appointment but Maresca, 44, who led Leicester to the Championship title and was a coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, is an alternative option.

Danish coach Frank, 50, is similarly under consideration for his work in getting Brentford to the Premier League and then consolidating their position in the top flight.

It is understood that Chelsea also have a fourth 'mystery' contender on their shortlist.

Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness had been tipped as an option but is now believed to be staying in Germany.

The Chelsea players not with their countries meet up for pre-season on 4 July and will embark on a tour of the United States under new management, having finished sixth in the Premier League and reached the Carabao Cup final - which they lost to Liverpool - last season.

I think the will go with a young manager like Mckenna. Probably end up another mess the like it was when Graham Potter got the job

Chelsea in talks with Leicester boss Maresca

Chelsea are in talks to appoint Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca as the replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Italian, 44, took charge of the Foxes in June 2023 and has just led them back to the Premier League by winning the Championship at the first attempt.

Maresca is interested in moving to Chelsea, with talks continuing between the two clubs, 24 hours after Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna dropped out of the race for the role.

However, former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have not been fully ruled out.

Chelsea would have to pay compensation fees for any of their remaining options.

BBC Sport understands Leicester would be seeking £8m-£10m in compensation for Maresca, who served his coaching apprenticeship as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

Whether the deal gets done would be dependent on Chelsea's willingness to pay such a fee.

Chelsea hope to finalise an appointment this week - subject to talks over the compensation package.

Pochettino left the club by mutual consent last week after finishing sixth in the Premier League in his one season in charge.

Former Manchester United assistant manager McKenna, who led Ipswich to promotion from the Championship, is being linked with Brighton, as well as with a return to Old Trafford if the FA Cup winners sack Erik ten Hag.

Ipswich want to keep hold of McKenna and are expected to offer him a new contract - although he is unlikely to renew his deal.

He is contracted to Ipswich until 2027 and any club will need to pay at least £4m compensation.

Chelsea will not need to sell players this month to comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) but will need to before next year’s deadline

Sky Sports had previously reported that Chelsea were among some Premier League clubs who may need to sell players before the June 30 deadline, but Chelsea insist this is not the case.

Sky Sports understands Chelsea will need to make sales to keep in line with PSR for the 2024/2025 season, and the cut off for that is next summer, but they are under no pressure to sell this month.

Chelsea meanwhile have also confirmed the signing of Tosin from Fulham on a four-year contract.

The defender completed a medical earlier this week and will arrive at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer when his contract with Fulham officially expires at the end of June.

Cut out the sour Grapes Please. That's 2 trophies in the space of 2 months for Chelsea and their Manager.

That's already more than a certain YOU GUESSED WHO!

Why is a United fan pole dancing for Chelsea? Have things gone that bad for United?

Finishing 2nd in the PL and making UCL semis are more significant than winning a third rate European competition and a glorified pre-season cup.

Its not a glorified trophy. This is the norm. 4 years time, it will happen all over again.

It is a club competition that takes places after the club season ends. That sums up its significance. It is just a glorified pre-season friendly created for FIFA’s greed. It has no significance.

Maresca leaves Chelsea after turbulent end to 2025

Enzo Maresca has left his role as Chelsea manager with the club sitting fifth in the Premier League.

The Italian, 45, departs less than six months after winning the Club World Cup at the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge.

"With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track," Chelsea said.

The Blues have won just one of their past seven league matches and took only six points from six games in December to fall 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

But results are only a small part of the story.

Maresca delighted key figures at Stamford Bridge - including sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and influential co-owner Behdad Eghbali - by steering Chelsea to a top-four finish and winning the Uefa Conference League and Club World Cup last year.

Yet success soon turned to sourness in his relationship with the hierarchy.

Maresca stunned even members of his own staff when - after beating Everton 2-0 for Chelsea's solitary Premier League win in December - he said "many people" had made it his "worst 48 hours" since joining the club.

Those comments came without any warning to club staff or senior management, who would have preferred any discussions to remain private.

But friction had been brewing in the months before that.

Maresca had hoped to raise his profile following the Blues' successes through opportunities outside the club. He was planning to publish a book before being blocked, and spoke at Il Festival dello Sport - an event in Italy organised by La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper - without the club's permission.

He also made public that he disagreed with the club not signing a central defender after Levi Colwill injured his anterior cruciate ligament in pre-season. The club's hierarchy explained that doing so could prompt academy prospect Josh Acheampong to request a transfer, which ultimately led Maresca to back down.

The former Leicester manager has also switched agents - from the Wasserman agency to Jorge Mendes - and has been talked of as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, which Maresca has dismissed.

In addition, he has increasingly avoided wearing club tracksuits - opting instead for his own clothing.

Following his last game with Chelsea - a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on 30 December - assistant manager Willy Caballero said Maresca felt too unwell to do his post-match media duties, but it is understood his absence was more due to his disillusionment at the club.

And it was noticeable that when Chelsea posted a 52-second video on social media on New Year's Eve summarising their year, there was no trace of Maresca.

The Italian, for his part, believed the pressure on him was unfair given what he felt were difficult working conditions, and that a line had been crossed in terms of attempts to influence his team selection.

While he was not angry about overseeing a young squad, he felt supporters' expectations needed to be managed regarding what was achievable - especially given key injuries to Colwill and attacker Cole Palmer.

Chelsea initially intended to assess his position at the end of the season if results improved, but Maresca's unhappiness was a factor in them parting ways sooner.

The Blues' next match is against second-placed Manchester City on Sunday - starting a difficult month that also includes games against Arsenal and Napoli.

Rosenior leading contender for Chelsea job

Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior is the leading contender for the Chelsea job vacated by Enzo Maresca.

Former Leicester boss Maresca, 45, left his role as Chelsea head coach on Thursday amid internal tensions with the club's hierarchy and ownership.

The process to replace the Italian is under way, and it is understood Englishman Rosenior is the frontrunner, though sources have stressed other candidates are also under consideration.

Rosenior's current employers are owned by investment vehicle BlueCo - the consortium set up to purchase Chelsea in 2022.

The 41-year-old, who previously managed Hull, has significant backing internally at Chelsea and it is understood candidates to replace him at Strasbourg are being considered because of his possible departure.

Porto's Francesco Farioli has also been mooted as a potential contender.

Before appointing Maresca in 2024, Chelsea interviewed Marseille manager Roberto de Zerbi, Ipswich counterpart Kieran McKenna, and Thomas Frank, who was then at Brentford but has since moved to Tottenham.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva have also been linked with the role in the past, though it is unclear if they are now contenders.

The club will not change their style of play, so it is highly unlikely they would move for Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

Chelsea Under-21s head coach Calum McFarlane will lead the side for Sunday's match against Manchester City, and is on media duties for a news conference to preview the game on Friday.

A social media post from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez indicated that Maresca's backroom team have also departed the club.
