Child rapist Aaron McWilliams used Gumtree ads to get jobs as nanny
One of the UK’s most “devious” paedophiles was able to perpetrate five years of child sex abuse after advertising his services as a male nanny on Gumtree and social media sites.
Aaron McWilliams, 28, raped or molested at least 24 children, including a four-month-old baby, after parents hired him unwittingly. Detectives at Scotland Yard found he had duped families across the country and as far afield as Italy and Germany, sometimes by providing forged references.
McWilliams appears to have exploited a lack of checks on sites such as Gumtree, Britain’s leading classified advertising platform, and took advantage of a growing trend among parents to leave their children in the care of a male nanny or “manny”. The case is one of the worst since Vanessa George, a nursery worker, was jailed in 2009 for sharing indecent images of infants in her care to a paedophile ring.
