Christian Eriksen collapsed as a throw-in was played towards him.

The players immediately called for the medical staff and Eriksen was being resuscitated at one point.

The players all looked in tears and some were praying.

Our thoughts and prayers with him

They've brought what I think is Christian Eriksen's wife down to the pitch.

She's being consoled by Denmark captain Simon Kjaer and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The game has been suspended because of a medical emergency to Christian Eriksen.

In complete shock watching this. I did not see the collapse and assumed it was some routine knock or small head injury, I really cannot believe what I am seeing. Praying for him

Things didnt look good with how he collaped straight away and the camera work was terrible to show his face and all. Feeling terrible right now

Pathetic from broadcasters. Should be fired ASAP, Players were trying their best to form a shield but the cameras were still able to peak through.

In shock. I still vividly remember the Fabrice Muamba situation a few years ago. Desperately hope he pulls through.

Very scary:(

Christian Eriksen collapses and receives CPR on the pitch; Denmark-Finland Euro 2020 match suspended

I would like to think that I'm a strong man, but, believe me, I was completely out of my mind for a good hour or so. It was a devastating sight to see everyone cry. I feared the worst. Phew! God has been kind..... We've survived a massive scare here!

Wishing a full recovery to Eriksen!

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is "awake" in hospital after collapsing in the Euro 2020 match against Finland, said the Danish Football Association.

The 29-year-old's condition has been "stabilised", according to tournament organisers Uefa.

The Group B game was suspended before half-time after the Inter Milan player fell to the ground.

Referee Anthony Taylor immediately called for medical support and Eriksen received treatment on the field.

Updates after Denmark v Finland postponed
Eriksen received CPR before the players were taken off the pitch and the match was postponed.

Uefa confirmed the match had been suspended because of a medical emergency.

"Following the medical emergency involving Denmark's player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated," it said.

"The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised."

The incident happened as a throw-in was played towards him near the end of the first half.

His distressed team-mates surrounded him and the shocked supporters in Copenhagen were visibly upset as the player was treated.

Saturday's other Group B match between Belgium and Russia, scheduled for 20:00 BST, is set to take place as scheduled.

Eriksen's club, Inter, tweeted: "Forza Chris, all of our thoughts are with you."

Former team Tottenham said: "Get well soon, Christian. The whole Spurs family is with you."

Last month, Eriksen helped Inter Milan clinch their first Italian title for 11 years in his first full season with the club, after joining from Spurs for £16.9m in January 2020.

The Ajax youth player spent seven years with Tottenham, scoring 69 goals in 305 appearances.

Very scary:(

Still remember the collapse of Marc-Vivien Foé in 2003 as if it happened yesterday.

Cheick Tiote died after collapsing during a training session and he was only 30 yrs old. The guy was immense for Newcastle, so this certainly makes you stop and think hard about life. Hope Eriksen makes a full recovery, although I doubt he'll be playing professional football again.

Every public space should have a defibrillator...
From what I understand they aren't expensive and are foolproof to use.

I still remember Fabrice Muamba's heart attack like it was yesterday, looks like Eriksen may have to retire at 29.

Fortunately both those men were in Europe so had the best medics on site, I fear what would happen if it God forbid something like this happened to a cricketer in the subcontinent.

It's unlikely to happen in cricket unless you are very old. Cricket is not as intense as football though heat strokes are common occurrence in sub-continents and PSL should not be played in such a hot weather.

Is it right to speculate what happened to him?

Anyway, I am glad that he is awake and his condition is stable. The credit must be given to Simon Kjaer and the medical staff for their swift actions, as in situations like this, it comes down to matter of seconds. Hope Eriksen makes a speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

All the best to him.

At this stage he will just be happy to be alive, even if he never kicks a football again.

First on the scene - Simon Kjaer and Denmark's players

Eriksen's collapse as he attempted to receive a throw-in started a truly frightening spell at Copenhagen's Parken Stadium.

Denmark's captain Simon Kjaer was one of the first players on the scene and appeared to clear Eriksen's airways.

The severity of the incident was apparent, and players from both teams urged the medical staff to hurry on.

As he was resuscitated, Eriksen's anxious team-mates formed a protective ring around him, offering some privacy from the 15,200 fans in attendance and the millions watching on television.

Medical staff - 'We did what we had to do'

Sports cardiologist Professor Sanjay Sharma, who is chairman of the expert cardiology consensus panel for the Football Association, told the BBC "the thing that saved his life was very urgent and rapid medical attention".

Denmark team doctor Martin Boesen spoke in a post-match news conference and explained how the events unfolded.

"It was clear he was unconscious," he said.

"When I got to him he was on his side, he was breathing, I could feel a pulse, but suddenly that changed and we started to give him CPR.

"The help came really fast from the medical team and the rest of the staff with their co-operation, and we did what we had to do and managed to get Christian back. He spoke to me before he was taken to hospital."

Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during a game for Bolton Wanderers in 2012. He recovered but never played again.

"It brought back stuff that I have put down in me, this emotion that is down there. To watch it from that distance and not know what was going to happen," he told BBC Sport.

"It was scary, but credit to the medical staff. They have done an amazing job on Christian. I like how his team-mates got together to protect him. It brought back emotion that you don't really want to see on the other side. I hope things turn out to be OK for him. I hope he will come through."

Is there any link with the covid vaccine, has eriksen had it

Because both pfizer and moderna have now admitted of heart inflammation in young males.

It annoys me when the media uses the terms "heart attack" and "cardiac arrest" interchangeably as if both were the same. They are two different medical conditions that have two different pathophysiologies.

We do not obviously have official medical confirmation, but from the videos, it looked like he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, which is known to happen time to time in athletes, particularly those with undiagnosed heart conditions. Hopefully he gets well soon.

Pathetic from broadcasters. Should be fired ASAP, Players were trying their best to form a shield but the cameras were still able to peak through.

What’s wrong with that? Public watching on tv would also be concerned abt Eriksen’s well being and camera man was only doing his job to show the tele audience what’s happening on the ground.

Very much touch and go in these situations. Good to know he is recovering now.

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is "awake" in hospital after collapsing in the Euro 2020 match against Finland, said the Danish Football Association.

The 29-year-old Inter Milan player's condition has "stabilised", according to tournament organisers Uefa.

The game in Copenhagen was suspended before half-time after the former Spurs playmaker fell to the ground and was given emergency treatment on the field.

Finland won the Group B match 1-0 after it restarted at 19:30 BST.

Danish players were applauded on to the pitch by their opponents as they returned to the field to resume the game.

Uefa said it agreed to restart the match "following the request made by players of both teams".

The final five minutes of the first half were played, before a five-minute half-time break and the second half.

'We managed to get Christian back'Denmark v Finland reactionReport: Denmark 0-1 Finland

Peter Moller of the Danish Football Association told Danmarks Radio: "We have been in contact with him [Eriksen] and the players have spoken to Christian. He is doing well and they are playing the match for Christian".

Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand was in tears at the post-match news conference.

"It was a really tough evening, on which we've all been reminded what the most important things in life are. It's meaningful relationships. It's those people who are close to us. It's family and friends," he said.

"Everything, everything, everything - all thoughts are with Christian and his family."

Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: "Moments like this put everything in life into perspective. I wish Christian a full and speedy recovery and pray his family has strength and faith.

"At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone. I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully."

Saturday's other Group B game between Belgium and Russia took place as scheduled at 20:00, with Belgium winning 3-0.

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, who scored twice, paid tribute to his Inter team-mate on opening the scoring, saying to the TV cameras "Chris, I love you".

After his match, Lukaku said: "I enjoyed the game but for me, it was difficult to play because my mind was with my team-mate Christian Eriksen."I cried a lot because I was scared, obviously. You live strong moments together. I spent more time with him than with my family. My thoughts are with him, his girlfriend, his two kids and his family."

The Denmark-Finland game was goalless approaching half-time at about 17:45 when the incident happened.

Manchester-born referee Anthony Taylor immediately called for medical support and Eriksen received CPR before the players were taken off the pitch and the match was postponed.

"The match has been suspended due to a medical emergency which involved Denmark's Christian Eriksen. The player is now in hospital and in a stable condition," said a Uefa statement.

"Uefa wishes Christian Eriksen a full and speedy recovery and wishes to thank both teams for their exemplary attitude."

The incident happened as a throw-in was played towards Eriksen near the end of the first half.

His distressed team-mates surrounded him and the shocked supporters at Parken Stadium were visibly upset as the player was treated.

Eriksen's club, Inter, tweeted: "Forza Chris, all of our thoughts are with you."

The Ajax youth player spent seven years with Tottenham, scoring 69 goals in 305 appearances.

The BBC broadcast the fixture and apologised after images of Eriksen receiving treatment were shown.

A spokesperson said: "Everyone at the BBC is hoping Christian Eriksen makes a full recovery.

"We apologise to anyone who was upset by the images broadcast.

"In-stadium coverage is controlled by Uefa as the host broadcaster, and as soon as the match was suspended, we took our coverage off air as quickly as possible."

Danish footballer Christian Eriksen is unlikely to play professionally again after suffering what was reported to be a cardiac arrest, a leading sports cardiologist has said.

The midfielder collapsed on the pitch during his country's Euro 2020 game against Finland and had to be resuscitated before being taken to hospital.

Eriksen, 29, was in a stable condition on Saturday night but it has not yet been publicly confirmed what was behind his illness.

Sanjay Sharma is professor of sports cardiology at St George's University in London and worked with Eriksen during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

He said: "Clearly something went terribly wrong.

"But they managed to get him back, the question is what happened? And why did it happen?

"This guy had normal tests all the way up to 2019 so how do you explain this cardiac arrest?"

UK football bodies were likely to be "very strict" about allowing Eriksen to play again, he added.

"His cardiac arrest has rocked the entire nation today and that's what happens. It's not just them that it affects, it's the psyche of so many people.

"The good news is he will live, the bad news is he was coming to the end of his career, so would he play another professional football game? That I can't say.

"In the UK he wouldn't play. We'd be very strict about it."

Prof Sharma chairs the FA's expert cardiac consensus group and is a consultant for charity Cardiac Risk In The Young.

He said the causes of Eriksen's cardiac arrest could include an unidentified health condition or a high temperature, but reports that the footballer was awake in hospital were "a very good sign".

"The fact he's stable and awake, his outlook is going to be very good," he told the PA news agency.

"I don't know whether he'll ever play football again.

"Without putting it too bluntly, he died today, albeit for a few minutes, but he did die and would the medical professional allow him to die again?

"The answer is no."

Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba experienced a similar collapse after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match against Tottenham Hotspur in March 2012.

He had hoped to resume his career but retired from professional football five months later on medical advice.

One of his doctors, Sam Mohiddin, told the BBC: "The cardiac arrest is a moment of extreme peril.

"If you don't get someone out of cardiac arrest things are over. You will not survive.

"The ongoing risk to an individual to an extent depends on the precise cause of that cardiac arrest."

Christian Eriksen collapses and receives CPR on the pitch - now stabilized

I´m just relieved and happy that he´s alive, even if it means that he´ll never play professional soccer again - although it´s still sad, of course, but we can and should look on the positive side of it. A thing far worse than this could´ve happened, mind you. Massively relieved that he´s alright.

Sad to know his playing days are over and obviously he will be gutted with this situation but it is far more important to be alive and contribute differently. Glad that it wasn't any worse than this.

The Danish Football Union says "This morning we have spoken to Christian Eriksen, who has sent his greetings to his teammates" adding "His condition is stable, and he continues to be hospitalized for further examination"

Christian Eriksen: Denmark midfielder suffered cardiac arrest, says team doctor

Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest when he collapsed in Denmark's Euro 2020 match against Finland, said Danish team doctor Morten Boesen.

Earlier, officials said the midfielder was stable in hospital and had sent his greetings to his national team-mates.

Eriksen collapsed shortly before half-time in Denmark's opening Euro 2020 game against Finland on Saturday.

"He was gone. We did cardiac resuscitation, it was a cardiac arrest," said Boesen.

"How close were we to losing him? I don't know, but we got him back after one [defibrillation] so that's quite fast."

The 29-year-old Inter Milan player had emergency medical treatment on the pitch before being taken to hospital.

"His condition is stable and he continues to be hospitalised for further examination," said a statement from Danish officials on Sunday morning.

"This morning we have spoken to Christian, who has sent his greetings to his team-mates.

"The team and staff of the national team has received crisis assistance and will continue to be there for each other after yesterday's incident.

"We would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt greetings."

Saturday's incident happened as a throw-in was played towards Eriksen near the end of the first half.

His distressed team-mates surrounded him and the shocked supporters at Parken Stadium were visibly upset as the player was treated.

Boesen said Eriksen was unconscious when he reached the player on the pitch.

"When I got to him he was on his side, he was breathing, I could feel a pulse, but suddenly that changed and we started to give him CPR," he said.

"The help came really fast from the medical team and the rest of the staff with their co-operation, and we did what we had to do and managed to get Christian back."

Only once informed that Eriksen was awake in hospital did the players agree to resume the match, with Finland going on to win 1-0.

Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand referred told reporters after the game: "It was a traumatic experience. We talked about those feelings and it would've been OK to say 'no' if they didn't want to play.

"Some of them were not able to play, some were ready. It's not normal to play such a game when one of your friends is suffering with a heart issue."

He won't be allowed to play another minute of football professionally in Europe after this confirmation of a cardiac arrest. The laws in the UK and Italy are fairly strict.

it's been confirmed that he had a heart attack

stop making things up, a heart attack is a cholesterol build up in your blood vessels, pretty impossible for him to get it.

It is still being reported as him having a potential cardiac arrest, which isnt confirmed still.

Christian Eriksen 'in a good mood' and 'making jokes' following cardiac arrest but wants answers from doctors, says agent

Christian Eriksen was given emergency CPR on the pitch after collapsing just before half-time in Saturday's game; team doctor Morten Boesen said 29-year-old was "gone", but swift intervention of Simon Kjaer and medical staff saved Eriksen's life

Christian Eriksen's agent says the midfielder is "making jokes" in hospital but wants answers from doctors after suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 opener.

Eriksen was given emergency CPR on the pitch during Saturday's game against Finland, which was temporarily suspended as the 29-year-old was taken to Rigshospitalet, a hospital near Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen said Eriksen was "gone", but swift treatment on the field of play and by hospital staff meant the midfielder was stabilised, and he was later able to send his greetings to team-mates.

Martin Schoots, Eriksen's agent, told Italian outlet Gazzetta on Sunday that the Dane is in good spirits, and is "happy" after seeing the support he has received from around the game.

"We spoke this morning [Sunday]. He was making jokes, he was in a good mood, I thought he was well," Schoots said.

"We all want to understand what happened to him, and he does too: the doctors are making some in-depth tests, but we'll need some time.

"He was happy, because he understood how much love he has around him. He received messages from the whole world. And he was particularly struck by those in the Inter environment: not just his team-mates who spoke to him in their private chat, but also the fans.

"Christian won't give up. Him, and his family, want to make sure that everybody receives their thanks. Half the world contacted us, everyone was worried. Now he only needs to rest, his wife and parents are with him.

"Even tomorrow [Monday], he will remain under observation, maybe Tuesday as well. But in any case he wants to support his team-mates against Belgium."

Christian Eriksen: Resuming Denmark-Finland match was 'least bad decision', says Martin Braithwaite

The decision to resume Denmark's Euro 2020 opener against Finland following Christian Eriksen's cardiac arrest was the "least bad one", says Denmark forward Martin Braithwaite.

Eriksen had to be resuscitated on the pitch after collapsing shortly before half-time in Saturday's match, then was taken to hospital.

The 29-year-old Inter Milan player is in a "good and stable" condition.

Braithwaite said he has "pictures in his head" he wants "to get rid of".

"I am still emotional about the situation," said the Barcelona forward. "Most importantly Christian is feeling better and therefore I am feeling better too.

"His health is the most important thing of all. It was important for me personally to see that he felt better via video. I had some pictures in my head from last Saturday that I would like to get rid of.

"We were all about to lose a friend and a team-mate. It's not something you normally think of on a football pitch. Joy and love are normal. No one can prepare for what happened."

On Monday, Eriksen's agent Martin Schoots said he had spoken to the midfielder on Sunday and he was "making jokes" and "in good form".

Only once informed that Eriksen was awake in hospital did the players agree to resume the match, with it restarting almost two hours after Eriksen's collapse.

Uefa gave them the choice of continuing the game that night, or playing at noon on Sunday. Finland eventually won 1-0.

Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand later said the game should not have restarted, while former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said it was "absolutely ridiculous".

"None of the options were good," Braithwaite said. "We took the least bad one. There were lots of players who were unable to play. We were in a bad place. We made the least bad decision.

"We were told we had to make a decision. That's the only thing I can say. I wished there was a third option. Because I did not want to go out again. But Uefa said there were two options. We made a decision because we knew we would not be able to sleep that night."

Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel said: "We were put in a position that I personally feel that we shouldn't have been put in."

The Leicester City captain added he wished someone in a more senior position had said "that it wasn't the time to take that decision, and that we should maybe wait until the day after to decide".

"What has happened has happened, and hopefully they'll learn from this," he said.

Eriksen remains in hospital in Copenhagen where his agent said he was having "detailed examinations" by doctors.

Speaking to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Schoots said: "I spoke with Christian [on Sunday] morning. He was making jokes, I found him well, he was in good form.

"We all want to understand what happened to him, him too. The doctors are carrying out thorough tests, it will take a bit of time.

"He was happy because it struck him how much love there is for him. He has had messages from all over the world. Christian will not give up. Christian and his family want to send all their thanks to everyone.

"Now he just needs to rest. His wife and parents are with him. Also [on Monday] he will be kept under observation, maybe Tuesday too."

Denmark play their second Group B game against Belgium on Thursday.

"In any case he wants to cheer on his team-mates for the game against Belgium," Schoots added.

Schmeichel has visited Eriksen in hospital and said it "helped him a lot" after seeing his team-mate "smile and laugh".

"We're still in the tournament. Now we have to try to see if we can win this and do it for Christian and do it for all the fans who sat with us and were just as powerless in the situation as we were," he said.

"I have no doubt that this team has the unity, the strength to be able to come together and go out and do something special."

Christian Eriksen will be fitted with a heart-starter device (ICD) following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen has confirmed.

The 29-year-old was given emergency CPR on the pitch at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen after collapsing during the first half of his side's 1-0 Group B defeat by Finland on Saturday evening.

Speaking after the match, Boesen said Eriksen was "gone", but swift treatment on the field of play and by hospital staff meant the Inter Milan midfielder was stabilised, and he was later able to send his greetings to team-mates.

Providing an update on Thursday morning, Boesen said: "After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter). This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.

"Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.

"We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time."

Players and fans from Denmark and Belgium showed support for Christian Eriksen during an emotional minute's applause after halting their European Championship group game.

Referee Bjorn Kuipers stopped play in the 10th minute after Yussuf Poulsen had given Denmark an early lead.

Eriksen is recovering in hospital after he suffered cardiac arrest in the same stadium during Denmark's opening loss to Finland in Copenhagen on Saturday.

Christian Eriksen has been discharged from hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland on Saturday.

The Denmark midfielder collapsed during the game and had to be resuscitated on the pitch. Eriksen regained consciousness before being taken to hospital, where medics continue to work to identify what caused his cardiac arrest.

On Thursday it was announced that Eriksen, 29, was to be fitted with a heart starter and he has now been discharged from the Rigshospitalet hospital in Denmark.

“Eriksen has been through a successful operation and was today discharged,” a statement from the Danish FA said on Friday.

What has been said?

A statement from the Danish FA said: “Christian Eriksen has been through a successful operation and was today discharged from Rigshospitalet.

“Today he also visited the national team in Helsingor - and from there he will go home and spend time with his family.”

Eriksen also released a statement, which read: “Thank you for the massive number of greetings — it has been incredible to see and feel. The operation went well, and I am doing well under the circumstances.

“It was really great to see the guys again after the fantastic game they played last night.

“No need to say that I will be cheering on them on Monday against Russia.”

Footballers and MPs have written to football authorities urging them to fund defibrillators at all grounds in England.

They have contacted the Football Association, Premier League and Professional Footballers' Association.

The group want the authorities to put a levy on Premier League transfers, which would go towards equipment, funding for research and training of medical staff.

It follows Danish player Christian Eriksen's cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Jesse Lingard, Gary Lineker and John Barnes are among current and past players backing the Heartbeat Campaign.

The campaign seeks to "turbo-charge and expand" the availability of medical support and defibrillators.

On Monday, the Premier League unveiled the first of 2,000 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) it is funding across grassroots football clubs in England and Wales.

The first defibrillator to be installed is at Southfields Academy in London.

It is estimated that the AEDs will be accessible to approximately 1.5million people who use the facilities each year.

Dr Zaf Iqbal, Crystal Palace's head of medicine, told BBC Sport: "I can only say it is a fantastic move. Yes we can do more, but I think that will take time. First of all, 2,000 defibs is a great start.

"Hopefully we can work to get more out into the community."

Every year there are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the community, with a survival rate of around 10%.

Dr Iqbal has been campaigning in this area for 10 years, after his son survived two cardiac arrests at home thanks to a defibrillator.

He said: "Although it has taken something like Christian Eriksen, a very visual profile who had a cardiac arrest in full view of the world to actually probably start a campaign like this, the other blessing is it showed the importance of defibrillators and the importance of getting a defibrillator on to a patient as soon as possible.

"Hopefully some good will come off the back of this."

He wants defibrillators to be mandatory in all schools and public places.

"I would call on the government to think hard about this and try to make it legislation," he said.

Supporters of the Heartbeat Campaign include the think tank Fifa Ethics and Regulations Watch, cardiologists, scouts, fans and agents.

The open letter says a 2% levy on all Premier League acquisition transfers would have raised more than £24.8m in the 2020 summer transfer window.

Four recommendations were made - raising awareness of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and other genetic heart conditions, commissioning research into treatment and diagnosis, training of medical staff to treat anyone who goes into cardiac arrest and fund defibrillators at all grounds and clubs in England.

Campaigner Mickey Ambrose, who organised the letter, said: "We welcome and support the Premier League's recent announcement to extend the number of defibrillators at football clubs, however, we think it lacks sufficient ambition for the country's richest and most popular sport."

I take it that Christian's Footballing career is over now.

Christian Eriksen will return to Inter Milan next week for tests to see if he can continue his playing career with the club.

The Denmark international collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest during the nation's Euro 2020 opener against Finland on June 12.

The 29-year-old has been fitted with a defibrillator (ICD) and doctors need to be sure he can perform without this if he is to play in Serie A again.

He will undergo medical examinations at Inter to see if he can resume competition at the highest level.

It is unlikely he will play for at least six months even if things go well, but his return to Italy means Eriksen is due to meet up with his Inter team-mates in early August.

Eriksen had helped Inter win their first Serie A title since 2010 before heading to the Euros with Denmark.

The former Spurs midfielder started the match against Finland, but collapsed late into the first half. He was then resuscitated and taken to the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen.

Following treatment, the Danish FA confirmed Eriksen returned home on June 18 after undergoing a successful operation to have a cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implanted.

In his absence, Denmark remarkably recovered from losing their opening two group games to reach the knockouts, where they eventually lost 2-1 to England after extra time in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Eriksen was pictured with a young fan at Tidvilde Strand beach in northern Denmark in early July.

Denmark captain Simon Kjaer and the medical team that saved Christian Eriksen's life are the recipients of this year's Uefa President's Award.

Eriksen, 29, suffered cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 defeat by Finland in Copenhagen on 12 June.

Kjaer has been recognised for showing "exceptional leadership qualities" in his response to the situation.

Thanking the medical team, Inter Milan player Eriksen said: "You did a fantastic job and saved my life."

"Also a big thanks to my friend and captain Simon and my team-mates in the Danish team for your support, both on 12 June and afterwards.

"Thanks to all the fans who have sent messages to me and my family. It means a lot and has given us strength and support. Thank you."

Former Tottenham player Eriksen collapsed shortly before half-time against Finland and needed to be treated with a defibrillator as he was resuscitated by medics.

He was fitted with an ICD - implantable cardioverter defibrillator - and is now recovering.

Kjaer was commended for his "admirable response" to the situation.

The AC Milan defender, 32, put Eriksen in the recovery position, started the initial CPR procedure before leading the Danish players in forming a ring around Eriksen as he received medical attention and comforted Eriksen's partner.

"It's something that will stay with us for the rest of our lives," said Kjaer.

"The team reacted as a unit…as a team, we made the maximum effort to stick together and try to get through that situation and be as helpful as possible.

"I try to lead the team on and off the pitch, in every aspect of life, as footballers, when we're together. I think it's one of the biggest privileges I have in my career.

"I've known Christian for many years. He has a great family, he has a lot of friends, a lot of team-mates that want the best for him. As long as he's happy and his family is good, I'm happy."

The medical team responded quickly and resuscitated Eriksen with CPR and a defibrillator before he was stretchered off and taken to hospital.

"We rushed to the field to help [Christian] and to do our job," said Mogens Kreutzfeldt, chief medical officer for Euro 2020 in Copenhagen.

"We did what we should, what we were taught, what we were trained to do.

"Everybody knew their role, everybody knew what to do. We were not emotional at the scene. Afterwards, we were, of course, like everybody. We're very happy and proud of the outcome."

"This year, the President's Award transcends football," said Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin.

"It serves as an important and eternal reminder of just how precious life is and puts everything in our lives into the clearest perspective.

"I would also like to send my very best wishes to Christian Eriksen and his family as he continues his recovery."

Inter Milan have said that Christian Eriksen is not allowed to play in Italy this season following the cardiac arrest he suffered at Euro 2020.
The 29-year-old midfielder was fitted with a defibrillator (ICD) after he collapsed while playing for Denmark during their Euro 2020 opener against Finland on June 12.

Inter said Eriksen was in "excellent physical and mental shape" during a visit to the club's training ground in August ahead of planned medical tests to see whether he could continue his playing career.

In a club statement on Thursday, Inter Milan said: "With reference to the registration rights of the player Eriksen, it should be noted that following a serious injury which occurred during the European Championship in June 2021, the player has been temporarily inhibited by the Italian medical authority from sporting activity in the current season."

Francesco Braconaro, a member of the Italian Football Federation's technical scientific committee, said in August that Eriksen will not be allowed to play in Italy unless the ICD device is removed.

Inter Milan's Christian Eriksen has started training alone at the Danish club he represented as a teenager as he continues his recovery from suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

The midfielder, 29, collapsed on the pitch when playing for Denmark in June.

The implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device he subsequently had fitted means he is banned from playing in Italy's Serie A.

Denmark's Odense Boldklub (OB) said Eriksen was using their facilities.

"Eriksen reached out to us, and he is now training by himself," said a spokesperson for OB.

"It's natural for him since he played here in his youth and lives around the corner. We are very happy to be able to provide training facilities for him."

Eriksen represented OB from 2005 to 2008 before joining Dutch side Ajax.

After seven years with Tottenham he joined Inter in 2020. The Italian champions have said they are prepared to let him leave the club after the country's medical authority suspended him from playing in Serie A.

Not just Eriksen, seems to be a real spike in these incidents recently. Young men are seemingly highly susceptible to such undetected heart problems.

Inter Milan are preparing to terminate Christian Eriksen's contract.

The Denmark midfielder has not played since he collapsed during his country's Euro 2020 match against Finland in June.

It was recently revealed that he had started training again on his own, at a facility arranged by his local club in Denmark.

There has been no confirmation about whether or where Eriksen is going to resume his professional career.

However, even if that is the 29-year-old's wish, it cannot happen in Serie A unless he has the ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) that was inserted following his cardiac arrest removed.

Inter accept this is impractical and are working towards allowing Eriksen to leave the club.

Eriksen joined Inter from Tottenham in January 2020 on a four-and-a-half year contract.
