Does anybody have a Google Chromecast? What's your experience with it so far? Any sweet tricks or tips that you could pass along?

Just ordered mine after reading news about being able to send Android screens regardless of the app you are using.

Yes.I have one.Got it free from Google. It's lying idle behind my TV for the last six months.Basically you can watch youtube/dailymotion on tv.thats it.

Its awesome. I mostly use to stream for netflix and youtube . Can;t bet the $35 price either. I'll only get better with more app support . The tab cast is kind of laggy though .

Great device for video watching. Plex + Chromecast = Excellent media server solution

You want a good media server, go for XBMC. There are a ton of cheap android devices out there which support XBMC. You have more apps, more functionality and they comes with remotes.

I honestly never understood why ChromeCast ended up being such a big deal. Its is really limited.

How easy is it to set this up wireless ? . Can I stream local media files without a lag ?
Really easy. I've got this setup over wifi and I stream local files without lag. My desktop is the Plex Media Server, where I host all my media files, and the clients are my phones/tablets/laptops/TV. To watch content, you don't even need to be on the local wifi, and can even stream while you are on the move. In order to "chromecast" the content to your TV, you connect to the Plex Media Server via any of your clients, and click on the chromecast icon to stream

you don't even need plex.. install Google Cast extension to your Chorme browser.. if you open your locale file(audio/video) in Chrome, it starts playing inside the browser.. now just hit the google cast icon at the top.. i've tried it few times and haven't seen any lag so far.. YMMV

Yeah I used to do that earlier. Plex is much more useful if you have multiple devices though.

Down RealPlayerCloud.
- You make an account
- Download RealPlayerCloud on your laptop and android/ios device
- Log in
- All your videos that are on the laptop magically appear on your phone
- When they appear you can choose to cast to the chromecast.

The PLEX thing is retarded, I haven't had any fun with it.....RealPlayerCloud is nice and simple.

The other way that another user recommended with the local/files/ etc etc. That way isn't as good as the RealPlayerCloud way because the video isn't smooth and there is a little bit of lag.

Because you essentially are casting your tab with the video, rather than just the video.

RealPlayerCloud was made FOR casting just videos.

So try it out, you won't be disappointed.

Time to enter the 21st Century, thinking of buying this device.

Does it work with Mobdro ? What's the video quality like on TV if I want to cast a tab from sites that don't have Chromecast built in ?

They were iffy sometimes, but sites with Chromecast like Netflix was awesome.

I had one then broke it.

I use it in India and its remarkable, the thing with sites that don't have chromecast enables for example amazon prime, best would be to use the cast table option in "chrome browser" not the desktop but cast tab specifically, works very well for me in that case but can't be said same about mobile phone.

From the mobile phone the ones with chrome option work extremely well including facebook videos, netflix, youtube are defn amazing.
