I found this video thanks to Tyson Fury posting the link on social media, it's so beautiful! honestly it's one of the best and most insightful video's you will find on the sport, it goes through a great deal of depth and insight in just 20 minutes whilst keeping everything brief.

Great watch!

I know many of you who follow the sport will appreciate what it means to be the LINEAL champion and the video really emphasises how challenging it is to attain the real undisputed lineal crown above all the alphabet titles which are heavily influenced by politics. To be the man you got to beat the man! in a prestigious lineage which began with John L. Sullivan reign in 1885 all the way to Tyson Fury in 2015.

Also notice how old school fighters fought in bouts scheduled for 45 championship rounds! lawd have mercy! and after causing a knock down you were not asked to go to the neutral corner, you could continue the beat down on your opponent who had little to no time to recover.

Anyhow I hope casual fans especially appreciate the lineal status and what it means to beat THE MAN rather then winning an alphabet title after knocking a few bums over or past it legends that were too old / inactive.

Javk dempsey was a master at that. His aggresive style bought the change of neutral corner. If you look at some of his old highlights, he would be standing just near his opponents after the first knockdown only to be run over by him again.

Refs those days were way too relaxed when it came to stopping the fights due to gear of public outrage. I have seen lot of other boxer's fights (marciano, sugar ray, jake lamottat) till the 60's where the fighter would just keep pounding the other dude and the ref would not step in to stop it and let the poor soul take punishment. From what i have read, that attitude changed in both fans and officials after the ray mancini match with a korean guy which resulted in the korean fighter's death in 1982 or 83. I of course didn't see that match, it would have been too depressing for me.

Reminds me of how in cricket phillip hughes death changed the old school attitude of thinking that bouncers were cool and if you admitted you were scared of bouncer hitting you or you protested, you were not man enough. Same thinking prevailed in the early era of boxing. Guys had to just keep taking undue punishment just to show you were not a bum or coward. Whereas today ref's stop fight after a guy like takam only gets slightly stun and is standing on his feet. Back then big george had to knock joe frazier down multiple times to win the championship.

Yeah Dempsey was ruthless those beat downs were brutal, but it was the nature of the sport back then. Not only public outrage but also due to the mafia and organised crime boss's, it would get to a stage where the police would stop the fight at times when they saw what was going on but the damage would have already been done, police stoppages were also common during the early 20th century when fights were scheduled for an unlimited number of rounds :/ scary to imagine that.

That stoppage involving AJ/Takam was shady as hell, Takam had a cut but he was moving his head so well, AJ was missing everything he threw and had gassed completely at that point, Takam looked the fresher of the two and he deserved to continue, he was starting come on stronger. If you watch many of AJ's fights you'd find that majority of them were TKO's as well referee stoppages, not saying they weren't justified but quiet a few have been questionable; it's not hard to see what has been going on and more recently emphasised in his last fight.

The Ray/Mancini fight was a big turning point, purists were still angry in the aftermath but credit to the governing bodies to an extent for pushing 12 round contests although they were motivated by $$$$ as well because broadcasting networks found the shorter contests more marketable to air live.

Watching that video just makes you appreciate those Heavyweights of old and what it meant to be lineal champion, these days a guy like AJ knocks a few bums over and people deem him the best but he does not hold the lineal title which is not easy to attain and it can only be earned, in unique circumstances you may not be required to beat the man who beat the man due to a retirement or in the case of an Adonis Stevenson who has avoided top 10 fighters for 2 years and keeps paying his mandatory's step aside fees lol he was stripped by The Ring although TBRB still recognise him as the lineal LHW, I appreciate their rigidity but in this instance they need to address the unique situation, The Ring's policy accounts for such circumstances in their lineal championship policy; they are not perfect in that they are too flexible at times while TBRB are too rigid, however if you hold either titles you deserve to be the undisputed champion in your division and more often then not, when a Ring title is won, the TBRB title is won simultaneously as we saw when Tyson Fury dethroned Wladmir Klitchko.

That dude doesn't fight top 10 fighters and parades himself as a knockout artist. He makes guys like AJ look like lions to be honest. I enjoyed it very much when kovalev called him chickenson and made bird sounds :))

Agreed lol even AJ has been a better champ and am not his biggest fan, to Stevenson's credit he has good wins over the likes of Cloud, Dawson and Bellew it's just his reign as champ it is easily the worst of the modern era, he's an insult to the world championship status. He can somewhat redeem himself if he fights Badou Jack or Kovalev and beats them but I will be surprised if either fight goes ahead though tbh
