Lately, I have realized that all good players, who were good/exceptional fielders, mostly in catching department, they would naturally have more success with batting, especially if they happen to bat at the top.

This ultimately comes down to: watching the ball closely. Especially, those who play it very late, would be able to come back in form, in theory, if they work on improving the response time of their catching.

I think, this can be a good technique to improve our top order batsmen. If their fielding & catching can be improved, they would surely get better as a batsman naturally, as they will play the ball as late as possible which is super helpful when the ball is moving around.

You would find Kohli, Smith & Root to be exceptional catchers. Same goes for Babar as well. That's why these are normally present in slips or close catching positions, as they have their eye set on ball, due to their practice in batting, which help with improve their reaction/ response time in catching the ball.

To be honest - have never considered this. A good batsman is a good batsman and same for the fielders. It the technique isnt right, no amount of ball watching etc will help the batsmen

Yeah, i know. Some fielders are just good with reflexes. And poor techniques do come in the way, even if a batsman is watching the ball closely, like if his posture isn't right, or if he is falling over while playing with cross bat shots (lbw), or if the batsmen just doesnt have temperament to see off the pressure, or has a habit to give it away.

I think it has an impact against spin? while you watch the release closely? also, while you send the ball away to third man for singles? Also, when you play bouncers, you shouldn't take your eyes off while playing that. Swing needs adjustment at the crease and technique, but i think if the catching reflexes and reaction times can be improved, it will result in significant improvement, especially those players who are out of form. Rest would be up to them to improve in other departments, also, whether they throw it away or just be there till the end for the team.

I think, Kamran Akmal's catching form did improve while he clicked with the batting. May be it's all just a co-incidence. But once you keep this co-relation in your mind while you watch cricket, it may become more evident who is evident more better at catching balls than not. Fielding has other factors as well, like fitness & a strong arm as well as the aim at the stumps. I am just focusing on catching aspect, and have related it.
