A good series win that many pluses and some serious issues still to be resolved in the middle order. Babar and FZ were excellent and Haris showed that he is developing. Well done on a deserved win.

Well deserved win. But i hope misbah dosent get complacent and looks towards solving the lower middle order batting

Congrats Pakistan. Hassan Ali's innings won the game for them in the end.

brutal victory for Pakistan ...definitely the best by an asian team in SENA

Congratulations. The innings by Hassan Ali was clean hitting at its best.

Although i'm a little cross with Hassan's bowling, his batting though was the main difference for victory.

Wow, good stuff by Misbah, has made this team good

We won in SA with him as captain, and now we won again under his coaching

Undoubtedly, a great win for Pakistan.

What this win has proved that Pakistan are certainly among the five best teams in the ODI format currently.

Fakhar's return to form is a great news for Pakistan fans as he is someone who is capable of winning matches for Pakistan in a 300+ chase and that means he can win Pakistan matches against top teams too. Babar and Rizwan are consistent accumulators, however, Imam is only capable of winning matches against teams like Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Hongkong and Afghanistan so that is what they need to address. Babar is a superior version of Imam but he too is an accumulator.

Shadab is going through a horrible run and seems to have become a poor man's Jadeja as our usual suspect continued to be spot on with his prediction on Shadab and other cricketers over last 2-3 years. Moreover, it is important for Pakistan to understand that Asif Ali and Danish Aziz are not international standards and hence they should look to develop Haider Ali in the middle order.

If they tackle the middle order, it will become a top 3-4 team and one of favourites for 2023 World Cup which is in subcontinent.

There are many issues still to be resolved. We need to find 2 young batters in the middle order to support Babar, atm if he doesn't score we are going to lose. HA and Saud to be given a run because with Babar in form we can carry them for a few matches and give them a chance to develop. Neither the spinners today convinced me much about their long term viability. UQ just bowls too much rubbish and has to get consistency and MN isnt going to threaten any decent bats although he bowled well today. As I have stated often on here HR has the best seam amongst our right armers and if someone can actually tell him to bowl a fuller length he will offer alot.
What was good was that we won, we were on hiding to nothing but got the job done. Overall a job well done

Congrats Pakistan. Very impressive and comprehensive win.

If Babar is a superior version of Imam than Imam must be bloody good.

It was perfect. Pakistan's sweet spot is if Imam doesn't get out early and also doesn't go for a hundred. A 70 ball 60 is perfect. Babar and Rizwan can control the middle innings.

We must focus on our middle order if we wanna compete with top 3 teams.

Our bowling attack was good, fielding was decent and Babar Azam is a good skipper.

Congrats brothers! Rejoice.

Well done Pak good few positives to take from this ODI series and some negatives mainly our non-existent middle order and I don’t think Sarfaraz is the answer. We are seriously lacking good batsmen at 6/7.

Despite our managements horrific selection blunders, glad to see we were still able to win. If we can play the right combination, though highly unexpected from a dud like Misbah, we'd be a much better side!

Credit to Fakhar, Babar, and Imam for scoring vital runs. Hasan Ali deserves credit for his cameo as well.

Nawaz with the ball was quite good and tidy. Shaheen recovered near the end, and Haris impressed me with his control today. Hasan Ali was a bit erratic, but it was his first game back from a COVID case so I'll excuse him for that. Usman Qadir could have bowled with a bit more control, but those figures aren't bad for debuting in tough conditions.

The middle-order failed again. Neither Sarfaraz nor Rizwan looked impressive, and when that's the case, I think it's time to introduce some younger talents like Rohail Nazir. Perhaps we could have used Haider Ali in the middle order, but he was not available for selection from what I heard.

Moving forward, if our middle order can revert back to Haris at 4, and Imad at 6, we'd have a very formidable batting lineup.

A win is a win but I’m not too happy. I don’t see the vision of the management. This is the worst middle over I’ve ever seen in an international team

It's easily fixable though. If M Wasim.can fix his errors and bring back Haris and Imad, and also bring Hafeez into ODI, our middle order will be very solid. The options are easily there.

Great win made even better by the fact that we didn’t play with any middle order. Hopefully we can build on from this and kick on.

Congratulations!

Don't know how they're going to fix that middle order though with Misbah having not developed any players and wasting time by playing duds.

Well M .Wasim felt Nawaz would be a better inclusion at this stage in place of Imad and can we fault Nawaz for his bowling efforts today?

In regards to Haris Sohail, i would want to see Abdullah Shafique or even trial Kamran Ghulam.

Hafeez makes no sense now since he won't be part of our 50-over World Cup plans, so unrealistic Hafeez will play that cup, just have Hafeez stick to one format.

M. Wasim has been for the majority spot on with his selections.

Solid series win. The biggest positive was Fakhar's return to form, but the middle order looks awful. We were lucky that our top order scored in two of the games, which resulted in our victories.

The simple solution would to bring back Haris and Imad back into the team. Saud deserves a shot as well, considering he was initially in the squad before his injury. Haider should be integrated in also.

Could've been 3-0 had we got our combination right. We didn't play with a half decent middle-order this series, or with a proper spinner in the first two matches.

Fakhar's return to form was the biggest positive, along with Babar showing captaincy is not burdening his runscoring.

A great series win. We need to sort the middle order out and a replacement or someone to play with Shadab as a spinner.

Hafeez can play for now while Haider get some FC experience. Then once he does he can be groomed.
to replace Hafeez.

As always we look back. Can you name any great achievements of Hafeez. In any other international team he would have got a 4 Yr cycle and here we are still talking about this terrible player. We saw how great he was in the WC, or is your memory playing tricks again. And Haris looked 1/2 the player he looked a year earlier. He is 32 in PCB years, and you knoe what that means.

Babar looked like he revelled under the pressure as a batman. Just one poor shot against Nortje when he just needed to see him off.

It really is baffling how the team management can go with such an inept middle order, however a win is a win. Congrats

Now is the perfect time to get rid of Imam ul Haq from ODI’s, and bring in Sharjeel Khan.

Pakistan should be preparing for the England tour, the management needs to wake up.

Asif Ali, Danish Aziz and Abdullah Shafique should be replaced by Imad Wasim, umar akmal and Haris Sohail.

Hasnain isn’t good enough for ODI’s, I can’t picture him taking more than 1 wicket against the top 4 teams, that says it all. Replace him with Amir.

I’m also pretty sure that Shaheen would benefit from having a bowling partner who doesn’t leak runs and can pick up wickets at the top.

Pakistan can easily be Top 4 in ODI’s, the only thing stopping them is the crap management and clueless selector.

So want to get rid of Imam when he is scoring runs? And you want UA back and a guy like Haris who can barely stand because of his knees. Maybe we can get rid if Babar and replace him with Shazad.

Haris and Hafeez are duds and Imad is not a middle order batsman.

Won a chase, made a match of another and defended a decent score. Keep it quiet, Pakistan.

brutal victory for Pakistan ...definitely the best by an asian team in SENA

Definitely a massive win for Pakistan but India beat much stronger SA team few years back in SA comprehensively 5-1.

Pakistan clinch series, rise to No.2 in CWCSL

Pakistan out-classed South Africa in all departments to take home the ODI trophy and valuable ICC CWC Super League points with a comprehensive 28-run win in the series decider.

Pakistan posted a competitive total of 320/7 to set up the series finale nicely but South Africa found themselves short by 28 runs despite half-centuries by Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne, and Andile Phehlukwayo.

After being put into bat, Pakistani openers, Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman, started off conservatively, protecting their wickets and scored 44 runs in the Powerplay without any losses.

The duo stitched together an opening partnership of 112 runs off 128 balls which was then broken by Keshav Maharaj as he dismissed Imam for 57. He lofted one straight down Kyle Verreynne’s throat for a comfortable catch at long-on.

Fakhar Zaman joined forces with captain Babar Azam to continue solidifying the foundations for a huge total as the two added 94 runs for the second-wicket and put Pakistan in the driver’s seat.

Fakhar’s golden run continued as he slammed yet another hundred following his valiant efforts of 193 runs in the second ODI. He made a sensational 101 off 104 deliveries but became Maharaj's second victim in a soft dismissal involving Fakhar playing a paddle sweep but scooping it to the keeper.

The fall of the all-important wicket of Fakhar started a domino effect as the Pakistan innings seemed to implode with a middle-order collapse.

Mohammad Rizwan (2), Sarfaraz Ahmed (13), Faheem Ashraf (1), and Mohammad Nawaz (4) were all caught in the web spun by the South African spinners led by Keshav Maharaj (3/45) and Aiden Markram (2/48), reducing the visitors to 257/6 in the 46th over.

Babar, who was still holding his ground resolutely from the other end was assisted by Hasan Ali with a partnership of 63 off 24 balls.

Babar propelled the Pakistan total to 320/7 as he roped in 17 runs off Phehlukwayo’s final over before he was dismissed caught on the final ball for a resilient knock of 94 (82).

Proteas began their chase counter-attacking Pakistani pace bowlers to keep up with the run-rate. Openers, Malan and Aiden Markram, stitched together an opening partnership of 54 but Markram (18) was sent packing after a review from Pakistan revealed an inside edge that was caught by Sarfaraz behind the stumps.

Wrist-spinner Usman Qadir on debut went through the gates of JJ Smuts (17) with a flipper for his maiden ODI wicket, unsettling the South African chase.

Malan paired with Temba Bavuma for a 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket but was trapped lbw by Mohammad Nawaz for a well-made 70 off 81 deliveries.

Subsequently, Nawaz continued with his onslaught and took the wickets of Bavuma (20) and Heinrich Klaasen (4) taking his bowling figures to 3/34.

Being reduced to 140 with half the side back in the hut, the hosts were in urgent need of resurrection which Verreynne and Phehlukwayo provided. The duo consolidated a 108-run partnership for the sixth wicket raising South Africa's hopes.

The dreams of series victory came to a poignant end with the fall of Verreynne (62) and Phehlukwayo (54) in back-to-back overs that was concluded with the Pakistani pace attack wrapping the Proteas innings for 292-all out.

Fakhar Zaman was awarded the Player of the Series for amassing 302 runs in three games.

The tour moves on to the T20Is starting on Saturday, 10 April.

So want to get rid of Imam when he is scoring runs? And you want UA back and a guy like Haris who can barely stand because of his knees. Maybe we can get rid if Babar and replace him with Shazad.

Imam is 10 years late, I’m afraid. If Pakistan wants to compete with teams like England, Australia, India and NZ then they can’t afford to have players like Imam in the team. The game is moving forward, we cannot sit idle. Pakistan may win 3 out of 10 games with each Top 4 team, that’s not good enough. We should be striving to win each away series in ODI’s. The question is, can Pakistan beat England in an ODI series away or home, the answer is NO. The same goes for the other 3 teams. Imam is scoring runs, but the question should be is his runs helping the team or putting the team under more pressure? If it wasn’t for Hassan Ali’s cameo we’d have lost to a second string South African team.

The role of the openers is to score runs at a good strike rate, this would put less pressure on the lower order. It would allow the lower order to play more freely.

IMO, a player with a career average of 40 and a strike rate of 90+ will win you more games than a player who averages 50+ at a strike rate of 80.

Imam ul Haq had an opportunity today against a week South African bowling line up, he still ended up with a strike rate below 80. That’s not acceptable, is it?

Pakistan now only second team after Australia to win more than 1 ODI series in SA. Aus has 3 and now Pak has 2.

South Africa has only lost 7 ODI series at home out of 50 which manifests how difficult the task is.

Congratulations to all friends from Pakistan who deserve to celebrate a triumph like this.

Cheers guys.

Batting was brilliant from top 4.

Was great to see Babar taking charge if things and playing at a high tempo. He must blast away these few years if he cares about his legacy. It is high time. None of these stats will and should matter in the end if he does not have 3-4 years being a trailblazer. He has the pote tial so why waste it. Good job.

I do wonder if we could win such a series.

Zaman was superb this series. Like prime Tamim.

Congrats Pakistan. Well played. The batting was a surprise tbh - I was expecting a collapse which never came. Kudos to the batting coach whoever he is ....

Good win. A lot of issues but some promising signs as well.

Babar led well and was important with the bat as well. Fakhar and Imam were consistent throughout.

Also glad that M Wasim's selections are paying off. Selecting Nawaz instead of Imad Wasim got us the last game. M Wasim was the first one saying that we need spinners instead of darters. Shadab was Vice Captain so had to be selected.

Also selecting Fakhar instead of Abid won the series. Remember that Misbah backed Abid Ali in the last ODI series.

Our fast bowlers didn't impress that much unfortunately. Maybe we expect too much from Shaheen, Hasan.

Got to appreciate Babar's leadership, M Wasim's selection policy and move on to improve further.

Hassan Ali will not play an innings like this in every match, and he shouldn't be expected to either. I hope, but highly doubt, that our team management understands how we've largely gotten out of jail in this series on the back of only a few players playing at a very high level - most of the team has struggled.

This team still needs a massive shake-up, mainly in the middle order where we need to find room for Haaris, Haider and Imad.

I have zero hopes from Misbah/Waqar as they both have never really showed any aptitude for inspired selection, but maybe Babar and M. Wasim get some sense knocked into them.

It's easy to criticise and I am as guilty as most on here and we know he isnt great and until we find someone better, he is the best option. Sharjeel may have a decent innings and I am not against him being in the squad but the guy is flaky and unfit.
A score of 280-300 makes us competitive and Imams strength is to setup the game. Bar Babar we don't have a middle order and you want to get rid of someone who is scoring and against decent attacks.

Great series win but a very weak SA team.
It was South African cricket board's decision to release players. One can not say what the result would have been if full SA team played the last ODI.On paper the full SA side is good but cricket is a funny game.It depends who plays better on the day.

Great series win but a very weak SA team.

Didnt SA play the "Full strength" team when they were beaten fair and square in the first ODI and pushed to their limits in the 2nd ODI as well?

Them missing a few players is due to their own issues and is not something Pak could have done anything about.

As I have mentioned SA have won 43 out of 50 ODI series at home and I am pretty sure they didnt play every single ODI in last 3-4 decades with full strength team. Beating any SA team in SA is not an easy task. Considering how well Pak played in the first two ODIs, there was no reason Pak couldnt have won 3rd ODI with their missing players as well.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s chairman – Ehsan Mani congratulated the national team for defeating South Africa in third ODI and winning the series.

In a statement released by the PCB, Mani said the team’s confidence must have boosted after a convincing win over South Africa.

“The whole team showed courage and class to win the series. It is great that Pakistan won the ODI series twice in South Africa, first under the captaincy of Misbah-ul-Haq and now under Babar Azam,” he said.

Mani praised Fakhar Zaman and Babar individually and gave them their due credit for leading the team from the front. “Fakhar’s consistency was brilliant and Babar’s batting and good captaincy led Pakistan to this victory,” concluded Mani.

Middle order needs serious sorting. Bowling and top order looks OK.

Haris Sohail, Haider Ali and one more (don't kill me, but could be Sharjeel) should get regular outings.

Finally we have something to shout about. A very good win so lets enjoy this series win without getting carried away.

Should have worn different colours as the away team, it was stupid for the two teams wearing nearly the same colours.

Great win - congratulations!!! Thrashing the best in their own den is no mean feat! What an achievement!!

Well played and Congratulations to all the Pak fans..

On a side note, Indian fans need to realize that you can only beat what's in front of you just like how pak fans did after India won the first Test series in Australia without any whinging. :)

Pretty much every Pak poster in this forum has refused to acknowledge the selection and management of the team by Misbah. Remember he gets blamed for every small thing that goes wrong when Pak is losing - surprising no one has given him even a small amount of credit for this win.

Indeed. Congratulations to Team Pakistan on a well-deserved win!

They should aim to keep this form till the next WC. Pakistan will be one of the favourites then.

Amen to that.

Pakistan would have most likely won the 3rd ODI even if SA had played their full strength side. The first ODI showed the quality of this Pak team in these conditions.

I stil think he made some error in selection but neverthless he and wasim should be credit for the overall win in the series

That was a fun series and its great to see Pakistan win it.

Middle order batting is quite a huge problem for this team and I don't think it would have looked as bad if they had Saud healthy but nonetheless, there is clear mismanagement by the selectors and even the coach. Seriously, Aziz and Asif? Sarfraz batting 5th and your 6th batsmen is Faheem? Good lord.

I'd think Haris is back on the side and in all honesty, it makes sense to let Haris & Saud battle it out for that #4 spot while having Rizwan at 5. #6 spot is where you can look for more of a power hitter but ideally, someone like Haider should be tried there. A lot of top teams start guys at lower order to make it easy and personally, I think it makes sense to let Haider bat there and build up his confidence. He doesn't need to be a guy that can build innings and get centuries at 3-4 spot right away. You can slowly build him up to that.

As for the bowlers, Rauf did quite well for this series and I hope he keeps it up. He is clearly an expensive bowler but if he can get wickets, that's a fine trade off.

Faheem just continues to be really unimpressive in LOI. His bowling is okay but not good enough and his batting in LOI straight up just sucks. There is zero reliability whatsoever and he has gotten out so many to times to shockingly poor shots it's mind-boggling. Personally, out of Shadab/Faheem/Imad they should probably look to play just one of those guys depending on conditions & look to go with genuine good bowlers. Pakistan batting will never be explosive enough to score 350+ so their focus should be having as many good wicket taking bowlers as possible.

It was nice to see this team play some ODI's. They have barely played any since the WC and I am already looking forward to seeing the ODI's vs England.

I hope I did not not speak too soon but Pakistan’s batting looks more solid now than say it did 2-3 years back with Fakhar, Rizwan, Babar and Imam. Hassan Ali’s six hitting ability is a boost to the batting in the late overs. Faheem is turning into a good all rounder in these short formats

Nawaz is a good limited overs spinner + he can bat. Usman Qadir is a useful addition.

If anything, pace bowling needs improvement. Shaheen Afridi and Hassan Ali are often quite expensive. Rauf is an average bowler.

Catching / fielding has also been good on this tour

Younis Khan doing a good job as a batting coach
