Could New Zealand have pulled this result off in Pakistan proper?

I say why not? Pakistan is as alien to NZ as the UAE, and bar cosmetic things like crowd support, Pakistan's spinners and fast bowlers will not have got any more help from the conditions than in Pakistan.

The batsmen are flawed enough to fail in Pakistan as well, and I back the likes of Williamson to also score heavily there. I mean, he tonned up in India on debut and has shown his worth in Lanka, so what difference is Pakistan?

At least one match would have ended in a draw. Pitches in Pakistan are ultra flat. UAE conditions are different from our home conditions and our players(specially newer ones) have to adjust as well.

People are not willing to accept this, but there is no way we would have gone so many years without losing a home Test series had the 2009 attack not happened. Playing Test cricket in the UAE benefited us over the years. It completely negated the opposition pacers and allowed our timid batsmen to grind the life out of them.

However, that was true for the Misbah era only. The current lot are dreadful everywhere.

I would say so, not because of the similarity of pitches in Pakistan and the UAE, but the ineptitude of the Pakistani team. The bowling has been mostly good against New Zealand, but the fact that no one stood up and created that moment of magic on the 4th day to break that mammoth Williamson-Nicholls partnership shifted the axis of the match to NZ. What followed next is so typical of Pakistani batting, that it doesn't matter if you're playing in the UAE, in Pakistan or on Mars, a 4th innings capitulation will always happen. Pakistani batsmen as a unit fail under pressure consistently in the final innings and it doesn't matter where they play IMO, they would've lost this series in Pakistan too.

Series in Pak would have been drawn.

Those pitches are no good for Tests.

I don't see why not.

This is a very average Pakistan Test side with perhaps 1 or 2 players who you could say are world-class. The rest make up the numbers.

Yeah. You would see 500-600, the concrete slabs in Australia would look like Test match friendly pitches in comparison.

Not sure, but we benefited greatly from Pakistan's batting being unsettled.

Pakistan are still struggling since they lost YK and Misbah. It's Yasir who is carrying the team with contributions here and there from Azhar and Shafiq from what I've seen.

Even in Pakistan you have to play the 4th inns...im afraid.

Ofc.

The same pathetic 11 would have been selected, so it would not have made a difference.
