Is there any country which has enjoyed a full crowd for their domestic tournament matches?

I have seen the Australians come in huge numbers for the Big Bash tournaments but the seats were empty for the Pura Cup Matches. Even County Crowds are empty or if even a decent crowd attends, then disciplined and silent

Not sure who has the highest but England is the only country which has genuine fans of its domestic team.

Like I don’t know any Indian who follows a Ranji team avidly as a supporter. They may wish well for their state’s team but have no real connection to it. Pakistan doesn’t even have fixed teams for that to even happen. Australia has states and while the players do identify with states the fans do not really. England is only place where the county teams have geneuine, passionate supporters

Only in England do they support domestic cricket teams like they do football clubs.

No one really goes to Shield games, even when they had the Test players in. But people like to follow scores & care who wins to some degree.

The national 1 day domestic used to get 5-10 000 fairly often iirc- but has since been forgotten in the BBL age.

Kotla, Wankhede, Eden and other big city venues manage to attract crowd of 5k and thereabouts for big ticket Ranji matches. But it doesn't look as impressive as ENG because the stadium are much bigger.

Full houses for the recent Hundred and regular attendance for the T20 Blast as well, with the big games at Old Trafford, The Oval etc mainly being sold out. IMO the best domestic crowds.

Assuming you have excluded T20 leagues from 'domestic cricket' , it's England.

I've seen grounds like Edgebaston and Old Trafford with 90% crowd capacity for the Royal London One day cup matches.

Why would T20 be excluded? They are domestic cricket as well. If ODI is good, then so is T20.

So this has to be India. IPL has a huge fan following and crowds in games (pre pandemic). Not to mention fans travelling to watch their team's away games. I don't think that happens much in any other domestic cricket.

England and Australia probably.

I would put India in front of England and Australia. The IPL has huge following. Though the 100 had good crowds and I am sure BBL has good crowds as well. But neither are likely at IPL levels.

T20 Blast average attendance for 2018-19 is 7,000.

For comparison

IPL 30,000
BPL 21,000
BBL 20,000
PSL 12,000
CPL 8,000

It's cos most cricket stadiums in England have capacities of like 15,000 so there always looks like there's a healthy crowd in. Still remember the Eng vs Aus WC semi in 2019 having plenty of empty seats and so did the final at Lords.

The BBL pulled decent crowds up until 2018. CA started killing it when they unnecessarily dragged the tournament on past the school holidays.

If domestic cricket includes T20 leagues, then there's IPL and then the rest of them.

Speaking strictly of domestic LA and FC matches, I feel ENG probably trumps India but only marginally. Big team (Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka, TN, UP etc) FC and LA matches in India get a decent smattering of crowd.

The difference is, if you have 3-4k people watching at Kotla in Delhi, it looks a practically empty ground but half full at most ENG grounds.

I wouldn't consider T20 leagues as 'domestic' cricket personally, but anyway obviously India gets the best and biggest crowds.

If it is only about domestic tournaments with not even a single international player than I think England will have the best crowd. However if it is about tamasha, bollywood, low quality cricket, international players and imported cheerleaders then Indian fans will be the first ones to fill the stadium. :inti

The question is the BEST crowd not the LARGEST. :nehra

Not sure what you mean by BEST. Is it the best behaved, most vocal, or as another poster said, best dressed?

Also, best may mean different to different people. So not sure which one would be right. Or perhaps all answers are right.

Doesn't the English county, ODI and the Hundred all have international players?

I was talking about English matches without any international players. They will still attract crowd. :inti

You will still find decent crowds for 2nd xi matches as long as the weather is good in the UK, most clubs have bars and clubhouses on site so the english like to make a day out of it , go have a drink and watch the game in the background.

You will also find big crowds for league matches especially up north and midlands like Birmingham bradford but this would be more of a desi apna crowd.

very vague question in the OP. let us choose as per our biases lol.
best crowd has to be UAE residents in the IPL

7,000 is pretty incredible considering the population, relative interest in cricket, amount of teams and the amount of games.

For me best would be everything. Passion, fun, sense of humour, atmosphere, how it feels to be in a stadium. ENgland supersedes larger crowds, not just for cricket but for other sports too. England is also known since the Ricky Hatton days as having the best boxing crowds too.

And of course best may different for other people but you can CLEARLY see from the post I quoted that he was mentioning crowd size. If that is the ONLY criteria for best that people have, fine but it would not be for many people.

Presumably in its Benson- Hedges incarnation?
