The coach had been bashed alot, but now after setting a strong top order, pakistan has dominated south africa in the limited over series

Time to give the coach his due credit?
 
No. He had one job, to fix the middle order, he didn’t do anything about it in the 7 games we’ve had.
 
Not sure if anyone noticed but Pakistan doesn’t have a middle order.

A loss would have served Pakistan better before credit starts being given out.

Against a better team this odi and t20 series wouldve been a disaster
 
Well they swept both cups so 👍🏼 but the MO is in crisis. Maybe pick 2 from the test squad so real batsmen are at 4/5.

Misbah is doing his best to ruin the national team with his brainless, mediocre and past it middle order. Needs to be booted asap.

Misbah should be given credit in helping develop South African cricket. The B team showed much potential especially the openers.
 
What credit? We have a pathetic middle order, and an average bowling line up, Thank the top order and Bad bowling by SA for the series win. We have some huge issues
 
If Misbah has to be criticized for Pakistan losing any match, then it's only fair to credit him as well for any wins. Otherwise its just hypocrisy.

If there is none then you make adjustments. That is the job of the coach. You can't give any excuses for something like this. If there is a problem then it is your job to fix it. That is why you are hired.

Exactly, he's had over a year to develop the balance of the team. Instead, the saviour's only interested in figuring ways out to pad the team with his friends.
 
Yes he does deserve some credit. If we lost, everyone would be blaming him. So if we win, why can he not get a bit of credit?

Same thing I was wondering. Can you imagine the backlash from Pak fans if they lost the ODI and T20 series to this SA team? Everyone would have targeted Misbah.

Even now we have won people still blame him for something.
 
MA's/Inzi's guy Fakhar has bailed us out and saved face for Misbah, he's a lucky bloke.
 
Babar has won us the both the series who was good even before misbah arrived. Misbah actually has to answer why he likes asif ali.
Misbah is usless he picked umar akmal and shehzad in his first series as coach. But thankfully we have a world class player as captain now unlike Sarfraz. Babar should just stop listening to him.
 
Misbah is lucky we have self made players who work really hard.. We like it or not Imam has the stats to show that he plays well.. Fakhar himself worked hard.. Babar is playing well already MA.. Rizwan improved a lot and worked on his game...

Misbah only had to fix the middle order and in that area He failed...!!

I honestly think a lot of that has got to do with his approach as a player during his career. People were so annoyed with him, that they still haven't got over it.
 
Never been a fan of misbah. But if he gets blame for defeat then he should get credit for victory. Having said that his real test is with Haider Ali and Abdullah Shafique. Hes needs to develop them and i see he's already failing with Haider by making him bat at 5, when he's a top order bat. I am afraid he is turning Haider into Umer Akmal who career was partly destroyed by Misbah.
 
Credit is actually due to M Wasim for instilling fear in players that they are droppable.
 
Has to be a joke. This series should’ve been a walk in the park anyways. It’s not like South Africa played with their full-strength team.
 
Backed both Fakhar and Faheem even though it was unpopular, and it's paid off. The MO may be poor, but there's still time to work on it, and I hope Haider continues to be backed.
 
pakistan won both series but our batting options outside (babar/imam/rizwan/fakhar) are pretty pathetic. middle order in both odis and T20s is non existant, no game plans and also no balance to x1 being picked for games.

misbah needs to go and wo wasim needs to improve his ideas on selection aswell.

That’s the main reason. It was not successful in LO but it was successful in test cricket. He did a good job as captain and player. I’m not his biggest fan as a coach, but he deserves some credit for this win and I don’t think he is doing as bad a job as some of ours fans think.

I'm not going to make fun of anything, I'm merely speaking my mind. I genuinely believe that the Mohali defeat in the 2011 World Cup hurt Pakistani fans beyond belief and they hold Misbah solely responsible for it. And they still haven't got over that defeat. Hence, the hate towards Misbah.
 
He does deserve credit for instilling confidence in players. Whether people here want to admit it or not, Pakistan played the entire tour with a very confident approach. Didn't have the best squad with lots of passengers, but still won both series.

That said, he also needs to take a second to ponder over his obsession with Asif Ali. He is not a good player. He is not even a mediocre player. And if there is any justice in the world than he will never play another game in Pakistan colors again.

not a fan of misbah, but if we bash him when we lose then lets give him some credit when we win. At the end of the day we done a clean sweep of series , we have no MO , call it SA b,c,d ,e ,z team if you wish but what level do you guys think pak is playing at? no where near levels of India, we are 5th or 6th at the moment this is our level now so enjoy it

Just goes to show how emotional and irrational Pakistan fans are.

Misbah accomplished so much as Pakistan captain and I honestly think we are forever indebted to him for the role he played in rejuvenating Pakistan's image after the events of 2010 and making Pakistan a world-class test team that eventually reached the zenith of Test cricket in 2016. But fans will always go back to the 2007 T20 WC Final or the 2011 WC Semi-Final.
 
2007 Final may have been upsetting for Pakistan fans, but for Misbah, that last shot psychologically scarred him.

After that final Misbah transformed into an ultra defensive player thus the infamous era of tuk-tuk began!

If Misbah hadn't been appointed captain then it wouldn't have been so bad, but the fact he was captain, his defensive mindset did more harm to Pakistan batting by destroying every last trace of agressive batting in the team.

What made me laugh was that Misbah hit the joint fastest Test century towards the end of his career; as if he had the agression and fire in him but failed to conquer his irrational fears since 2007.

His batting had a place in Pakistan test team, but his leadership and management style do not.

Misbah shouldn't take credit for victories simply because he never takes responsibility for failure.
 
I would like to give credit to IPL for allowing us to face a easier team of South Africa. For once India was looking after us.
 
When you bash him for a loss, you also have to give him credit for the success. This series in many ways was a positive surprise. The close wins today and in the first ODI are typical Pak. Making a mess of an easy win. But the team still won both games. However, the other victories were very convincing. That's the positive surprise. The 3rd ODI, The first and third T20Is were spectacular wins. Misbah should be credited with coming up with a winning Top 4. Numbers 5,6 are partly his fault. Taking a chance with a youngster is hardly his fault but sticking with Asif Ali is. Overall, a great tour for Pak

He had the right idea but the problem was no one stayed with him. He could have rotated strike better as well.

Another game is the 2007 World T20 final. Some of our fans have not forgiven him for that. I also truly believe after that, Misbah became a bit more defensive and wanted to go for the safe option. I can remember in that tournament he was a really attacking player. After that game, he became a bit more defensive and safe. Our fans don’t like “defensive and safe”, hence he gets hated by some.
 
There are still issues with the team combination and some of the picks, but the management does deserve credit for winning 4 series in a row against South Africa.
 
Ever since Mickey Arthur has been kicked, we're only seeing positive things.

Last four series have been a major source of burn for the haters.

Why?

Cause we're winning! And winnning big!

Untried recently: Sohaib Maqsood, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haris Sohail.

Wildcards: Azam Khan, Asif Ali and Haider Ali.

Could be tried (not enough time): Saud

Tried but discarded after few games: Khusdil Shah, Hussain Talat and Iftikhar Ahmed

Please no Malik. 20 years or cricket nothing to show in WCs. No Imad Wasim is not a middle order batsmen, he’s later middle IMO

Other shuffling options:

Include Sharjeel and move Rizzie to MO.
Promote Haider to open and move Rizze to MO.
Promote Fahim to MO. He’s shown in test that he is solid and he’s shown in T20s that he can hit a long ball. Needs time on the crease but can be a clutch player.

Agree with this, I opposed Misbah's appointment as coach due to a total lack of experience and lost respect for him due to the way he manoeuvred himself into the role. But one has to be fair.

We cannot give him none of the responsibility for the victories and all the responsibility for the defeats.

Where he's messed up undoubtedly is persisting with Asif Ali and not rectifying the middle-order issues in ODIs and T20s. There's plenty of upcoming cricket to find a solution though.
 
Reaping the rewards of Mickey's hard work and Muhammad Wasim's awesome team selection. Still tried his best to undo them by playing his langotia yaar Asif Ali
 
Thankless fans. These Misbah haters will find any excuse to bash him. Before it was oh he's always selecting oldies, to oh he brought in young guys in tough series. The latest of this rant is that the middle order is weak. It will never stop with this lot

The coach doesn't teach your gun batsmen how to bat. Babar, Fakhar and Rizwan came to the party and helped defeat a weakened SA by the skin of their teeth! So, please tell me what does Misbah deserve the credit for in such a scenario?

The coach however does have a say in the playing XI and if you are happy with that, then God help you!
 
credit should be given to CSA for allowing 3rd string team to play (no offense)

Tell me how different this series is from warm up games (except for played officially)?

Agreed. Even though we won but were very lucky that Babar, Fakhar and Rizwan batted exceptionally well imam to an extent in odis. But as soon as they were out evident from the 1st odi they rest of the batsmen or the middle order were shambolic to say the least. I honetly have no idea why Asif Ali keeps getting selected. Truth be told associate teams won't pick him. Have we fallen the low that this bloke keeps coming back?
 
Gets bashed when we lose, gets bashed when we win as well. He is in a no win situation.

Regarding middle order, he's only going to pick the players he's been given.
We only played 5 ODIs under Misbah the selector, which came a year apart in between which most of the players had faded away or aged. He gave Khushdil(a pp darling prior to international debut) and iftikhar a few chances. Talat in t20is too arguably.
He had a set Haris Sohail at no.4 but Wasim Khan dropped him for this tour and instead provided Asif Ali and Abdullah Shafique.

The whole management needs to be given some credit for the success of last few victories for strategizing and keeping the guys in a good state (Fakhar especially) with majority of credit should be given to Babar(who looks very fresh and calm in his role as a batter and captain)
 
We've all been told that "Pakistan mein bohat talent" is the biggest lie in Pakistan cricket. I'd say Misbah saving Pakistan cricket is an even bigger lie. It's the biggest hoax of Pakistan cricket.

This is ridiculous , why people have such a short memory , one humiliation after anther , most recent one being the washout in New Zealand. And now a win against SA C team, which I'm sure would lose to Zimbabwe and all the sins committed by Misbah are forgiven.

Pakistan won, in spite of Misbah and not due to Misbah, he does not deserve any credit, if we have to give credit it should go to guys like Babar, Fakhar and Rizwan.

I wish people think more like a cricketers and not as member of some fan club.

Just 5 years ago, same Misbah, after failing miserably both as batsman and as captain in New Zealand and Australia where his team lost every single game they played, went to West Indies and beat their then club level team and the same fans gave him great credit for winning the series in WI like he had won the world cup.

Sooner this guy leave is better , he has caused too much damage to Pakistan cricket.
 
With 8 balls to go it was looking like a major embarrassment. Credit to Nawaz today but we all know he isn't doing that against KG/ Norte
 
I would’ve bashed Misbah to the moon & back if we had lost so credit where it’s due but have to say not impressed by the middle order development... the problem is some guys are under more pressure as they get less chances like Danish & then there is Asif Ali a Misbah favourite, he has had his fair share of chances & its time to drop him , I’d rather have Chacha Ifti or Khusdil
 
What has he done? what rank improvements in game awareness or strategies have you noticed? This series was a shambles against SA C team, except for 2 games we turned nothing games into thrillers, making same pathetic mistakes over and over. MIS-WAQ needs to go, get a toothbrush...
 
Beating SA in 4 straight series is no mean task so whole management and team deserves the credit.

That being said there are quite a few areas to improve which they should focus on after this. I still dont feel the strategies against individual players are as great as they can be, also rather than taking reactionary decisions after a poor match I would like management to be more pro active and to critically analyze the weak points after the win as well.
 
Tail starts from number. It has been a issue with pakistan team for past two years. I have said it numerous times before as well cricket is batting heavy game now.. Need proper batsmen till number 6

Why doesn't wasim get the same critism as misbah for picking asif Ali
 
Not many other coaches have helps Pakistan beat South Africa in a series, it only happened once so I think its an amazing achievement that not only one other coach helped us win in South Africa.
 
Misbah and wasim both should get credit for winning the series.

When we win against SA's C team and probably against Zimb, credit goes to Misbah and when we're defeated by a better team like New Zealand, its all because of player's bad performance.
 
I'll start off with what my perception is of the role of a head coach especially in Pakistan cricket (maybe different in different countries). I feel in Pakistan, the head coach has more control over naming the playing XIs than the captain does.

Hence for me, apart from game results, my main judgment of a head coach would be based on the XI he plays. I'm also going to be judging by which new players were introduced during his tenure and which players were backed despite having failures, because the coach had faith in them to deliver.

Using above mentioned criteria, let's compare Mickey and Misbah's performances so far.

I rate Mickey Arthur's tenure as Pakistani coach as very good. Pakistan may have not won a bilateral series vs a top team, but they did win the Champions Trophy. But as I said before, that's not the only thing I'm judging anyway. Mickey deserves a lot of credit for backing guys like Fakhar, Imam, Babar, Shadab, Hasan, Shaheen, etc. I'd go on to say the foundations of our limited overs team today were laid down by Mickey. His man-management skills and backing of players was good too, the biggest example being him backing Babar in tests despite his early failures. He deserves a lot of credit in developing Babar the test player.

Now let's come to Misbah. I'm not just going to say we won the SA series, so Misbah deserves credit for that. If you look at the main performers in the current team, most of them are players who were developed during the Mickey era. The only exception here is Rizwan, and this is where Misbah deserves credit - his backing of Rizwan and also Faheem, when pundits and fans were against both being selected. Misbah's next biggest test will be how he treats Haider. He needs to back Haider to the hilt and play him in the longer formats (ODIs) so that he can develop his temperament. If Misbah backs Haider and gives him confidence, that will be another point I will give him credit for. I was initially critical of Haider not playing the ODIs, however it seems like Haider had a genuine tooth issue, so I will let that slide but will monitor how Haider is treated from here onwards.

funny how the series win couldn't be creddit to Misbah, but this defeat would be placed on him :)

Credit to Misbah for giving Zimbabwe a tough challenge. I wouldn’t mind losing to Zimbabwe if we were playing a team full of youngsters, but we were playing our “best” batting line up. Embarrassing.
 
We are a terrible team no question however in all fairness I don't think we would have slipped to such low depths with Mickey. At least he ensured that our mediocrity could be hidden by defeating weakened/weak teams.

This absolute joker cannot even do that.
