What an epic tour it has been. Thank you Australia, for being the great hosts as always. The cricket played across the 3 formats was top notch!

Thoughly entertained.

Excerpts:-
“On behalf of everyone at Cricket Australia, we congratulate Team India for their resilience, courage and skill demonstrated in retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a series that will be talked about for generations to come,”

“Australian cricket will forever be grateful to the BCCI for their friendship, trust and commitment in helping to deliver a series that has brought joy to many millions of people around the world at a time they needed it most,”

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">An open letter to our friends in Indian Cricket, and to everyone who played their part to help deliver this memorable series! 🤜🤛 <a href="https://twitter.com/BCCI?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@BCCI</a> <a href="https://t.co/rk4cluCjEz">pic.twitter.com/rk4cluCjEz</a></p>— Cricket Australia (@CricketAus) <a href="https://twitter.com/CricketAus/status/1351761650253131778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 20, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

If someone thinks that one needs to thank only for being paid, he/she must be living a sad society.

If someone thinks that one needs to thank only for being paid, he/she must be living a sad society.

It is a world of transactions today.
Every country is on the look out for what benefits them the most. Same in this case.
Afghanistan would have happily toured Australia, but there only test match was cancelled.

Nothing bad about that, it is a practical world not emotional, and that is how it should be.
But please, don't try to sell it as something else.
It is what it is.

If someone thinks that one needs to thank only for being paid, he/she must be living a sad society.

Exactly this.

Sorry if this hurts anyone but the negativity and smallmanship at display on the forums at times is quite shocking and sad at the same time.

Friendship means a great deal in the world, still.

Like i said about Shastri's speech in the dressing room in the other thread, such gestures may seem small but they can mean EVERYTHING.

I thank the CA for this wonderful gesture.

They have lifted their image even further with this.

Hopefully we will get to host the Aussies for a great tour in India very soon.

With love from India.

fox sports has revealed this series had the highest viewership ever for a subscription service. Already there are talks of a 5 test series next time. WoW

But but but but but Channel 7 said that the audience wont be there henve they wont pay CA full money.

basically CA trying to cover their own back for their lack of sportsmanship and rubbish from their commentators, now the tour is over back to the IPL $$$

don't want to derail but a certain gentleman here was saying that no one follows Indian cricket team in Australia and Average Aussies don't even know the names of the players.

After these 2 series, in 2018 and 2021. they will surely not forget two names,
Pant and Pujara... The two PP's of Indian cricket.

BG series must become a 5 tests affair.

Problem is Australia are terrible in India.

Nope.....enough of 5 tests. The ones series we have accepted for ECBs sake is proof that 5 is an overkill for us. (Ashes are an exception - both countries like it and want it and so fair game)

4 test matches are more than enough - play one pink test per series for variety and that should be it

Pyjama league lovers can say goodbye to their dream of IPL taking over test cricket. This one series was 1000 times better and bigger than all seasons of IPL combined. :inti

Absolutely! Test cricket is the best cricket...has the ebbs and flows which is unmatchable.

Amazing performance. It’s easier for a second string attack and substituted players coming in for injured frontline players to pull of an upset in ODIs and t20s

But tests? Over 5 days and an entire series? Insane. Shows the quality. Congrats to my Indian brothers. There is no excuse left to downplay this performance.

The series was worth every single $, cent of the $300 million that the CA coffers made. They saved Cricket Australia from certain bankruptcy and Cricket Australia will forever be indebted to the BCCI for helping them out at this critical time.

Hopefully Cricket Australia themselves financially will never put themselves in such a position again

I would respect CA further if they take a leaf out of BCCI's book and would be forthcoming in touring Pakistan where they have not been in over two decades.

Boards must support each other for their own good.

Cricket is not a major sport yet, only a handful of countries play it and the entire economy is dependent on competitive and sustainable cricket between them.

I'm not a IPL fan but why some peoples alway relate IPL for everything. test cricket is best but at the time IPL has own unique identity .IPL IS HERE TO STAY ,Just accept it& Move on if some one don't like it .

Pakistan and the West Indies helped England out as well as saved them from gigantic losses. England has agreed to tour Pakistan for a test, ODI, T20 series and I am sure Pakistan helping England out in desperate circumstances and also Wasim Khan's influence played a key role in the decision as well

Thanks for the acknowledgement from cricket Australia.

This series will be remembered for long time.
They should not be too dejected, every test match could've gone either ways.

I don't understand why you turn everything into IPL vs Tests.

Why can't we have both IPL and Test matches? They are both wonderful in their own way; we enjoy Tests, some others enjoy IPL. Why do you have to belittle those who don't exactly share your taste?

If anything, I think IPL had played a slightly positive role in winning this test series.

FYI I loved this test series, didn't miss a single ball, which I'd never do for IPL. But my family (the womenfolk and kids) prefer IPL over the tests. Why can't we let everyone have what they want?

That post was for those who are die hard fans of IPL, want IPL to take as much space as it can in the cricket calendar, want to see other boards bow down in front of IPL, claim that every international cricketer will ditch his own country for IPL if a situation arises to choose between IPL and national team and last but not the least they think tests are useless. Now some of them who even wanted IPL to take preference over this whole aussie tour are now acting like test and international cricket lovers after India's win. :inti

Can you show me one post where any IPL fans have claimed that it will take over test cricket or it is more important? Why lie with open teeth?

Ok, got it. But then you know better that there are idiots/trolls everywhere. I didn't like how so many posters came after you after Pant played magnificently, as if you hate Pant for no reason. You just pointed out his flaws in keeping and batting temperament and wanted him to perform better, which when he did, I am sure you'd have been super happy. Anyway, that's for another thread.

Tests are here to stay and IPL will not encroach anymore into the cricketing calendar, inspite of what some might say. From what I know, the people in power at BCCI value Tests very very high. We don't have to worry about the future of tests at least from IPL. Yet.

In fact australia commentators mentioned that because of IPL and t20 cricket the players like Pant and Sundar were able to play fearlessly even when the required run rate is over 6 on the most bounciest pitch in Australia on Day 5 3rd session

Good to see CA praise India. Their teams remain the greatest in the modern age, for example having won 4 of the last 6 ODI WCs, and being ranked #1 in Tests for the most number of months this century.

No doubt Australia will not take this series defeat lying down, they will come back strong. Series like these could even create an India-Australia rivalry to compete with the Ashes. In the longer term I would say that England will not be able to keep up with India and Australia, so India-Australia rivalry is the future of the sport.

I don't think you understand the importance of professionalism in sports. Many of the young cricketers are products of the IPL.

Would a player like Natarajan ever become what he is without IPL? No. Getting a Rs. 3 crore contract in 2017 enabled him to focus completely on cricket and become the best version of himself possible.

Without the IPL Natarajan would have stuck in a rut of various organizations with their safarish culture, and we would be back to the bad old days of the 1990s with players having to brown nose Raj Singh Dungarpur to be in the team.

Fact is that professional sportsmen with well paid contracts will outperform others.

You keep complaining about the IPL, but if you don't have any alternative for players to get well paying contracts from private teams (which value performance rather than safarish), then you are just talking nonsense.

I honestly feel empty right now.

This tour was epic and kept us all on the hook for 3 months. Never realized how quickly they passed thanks to the phenomenal cricket.

True. I should be feeling relieved that I don't have to wake up so early on these
chilly and foggyy Delhi mornings. But no, I'm still longing for those 3 am thoughts that I have only so much time left for me to sleep!

WFH these days has helped immensely as don't have to waste 1-1.5 hrs in travelling to office and then miss the action during traveling time!

Serious withdrawal symptoms. This was just too good.

I have been inactive on PP since many years. This tour pretty much got me back in the game., again.

The backlash in Australia related to series loss is immense. I absolutely did not think this can happen. Everyone is debating about it and everyone just feel india deserved it all..
Now the English are trying to sneak in and cause havoc on Australian minds before the ashes . LOL poms

He just cannot understand what IPL has brought to Indian Cricket! I think he wants to see the 90s great patriotic Indian team which used to get beaten brutally in overseas tests and get hammered by Pakistan, Srilankan batsmen (those hapless bowlers!) I think he pretty much relishes those moments and feels immensely patriotic about it! I have explained him in detail about what IPL has brought to Indian cricket, but it never gets into his system! If he really hates money & commercialism then he should rather stop watching cricket itself!

He also complained about injuries during IPL... But the same players (IPL players/T20 players) came to rescue when the main players got injured during the so-called patriotic bilateral series! As if they only cared for money! This guy would have been happier perhaps if the team had surrendered & fell flat as they used to do in 90s giving excuses of injuries, etc... I think this guy will also be happier to see match-fixing episodes (from 90s) coming back to help players make money (whatever just ban IPL...)

To be honest, we IPL lovers & admirers like the way India is competing in international matches with proper fitness, athleticism & enthusiasm (the skill was always there) and the right players getting the chance to display! We are enjoying both IPL & Tests/ODIs equally!

Ok. Which players are getting selected based on their IPL performances in test team? Kindly name them. :inti

Jasprit Bumrah came into fold via IPL. I’m not in favour of players getting selected to national XI based on IPL performance, but we don’t have to belittle IPL at every instance. IPL is there to support domestic cricketers having financial security as well as a platform to showcase their talent to world alongside greats of the game. It’s not an alternative to Ranji or domestic.

I don't think Bumrah or Sundar made it alone on IPL performances. They have good fc record. IPL has helped them getting the exposure though which makes them mentally stronger and when they face same bowlers in tests they are no longer under pressure.

You are avoiding the issue. I have said many times that having secure employment allows a player to concentrate on his game and become better. Washington, Pant, Siraj, Thakur etc. all have IPL contracts. Other than Pujara, which Indian player doesn't have an IPL contract?

In the 93rd over, needing 49 runs from 44 balls, Cummins bowled to Sundar.

Screen Shot 2021-01-21 at 2.51.52 PM.jpg

This would not have been possible if Sundar hadn't played in the IPL. So besides the money, IPL even allows players to have the confidence to accelerate when necessary. And I am not even going to get into Pant's innings.

I agree with you that IPL has provided security and professionalism. The psychological impact of having a half a million dollar contract is immense. It gives the player confidence and motivation to keep improving his game so that he can keep improving. It was confidence that led to Sundar smacking Cummins for a 6 and a 4, leading to the required rate suddenly going from well over 6 rpo to under 6 rpo, a sort of a turning point towards the end of the game.

The reason Mohammad Amir flamed out was that he never had the motivation lacking the sort of contracts IPL provides.

Talk about it m8....its over and am still not done in reliving a lot of moments across the last month, the whole tour - odi's t20 included were phenomenal ....such an emptiness in life nowadays.....hope Pak - Saf will be cracking series....Cheers

A good pickup....I was also against IPL but have come around seeing it does give fin security and also gives enhanced skills that ramp up odi's and TC. And going back to that shot which at that stage of the match really put the turbo on, that shot was amazing, reminded me of Gordon Greenidge, 1984 Lords, the way his knees bent and he was off the ground....Washy - u rok

Sundar hasn't played a FC match in 3 years. He had made up his mind to be a shorter format player for good.

Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed that the Indian players were not allowed to share the lift with their Australian counterparts during the Sydney Test, something the visitors found "too difficult to digest". (More Cricket News)

The third Test of the recently-concluded four-match series was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground and throughout the tour, players and support staffs of both the teams stayed in a bio bubble due to threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We reached Sydney, they locked us with severe restrictions. There was a unique thing that happened in Sydney. It was strange, to be honest. Both India and Australia were in the same bubble. But when Australian players were in the lift, they won't allow Indian players inside it," Ashwin said.

The seasoned spinner made the revelation during a YouTube video chat with India's fielding coach R Sridhar.

Ashwin added, "Seriously guys? We felt so bad at that time. We are in the same bubble. But you get into the lift and you can't share the space with another person staying in the same bubble. It was too difficult for us to digest.

"We are all in the same bubble, but you get into the lift and share the lift space!"

The Test was also marked by allegations of racial abuse against Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah.

In the matches that he had played before missing the series-deciding fourth Test due to a back injury, Ashwin contributed significantly and helped India stage an incredible turnaround that saw the visitors claim the rubber 2-1.

Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari -- both fighting injuries -- batted for more than five hours on the final day of the Sydney Test to help India achieve an improbable draw and keep the series locked at 1-1.

In the final Test at Brisbane's Gabba, India chased down a record target of 328 to beat Australia by three wickets and break the home team's unbeaten run of 32 years at the venue.

An Indian spinner who is supposed to be a tailender... getting on a bouncer from the best Australian pace bowler (from the country with the best pace bowlers)... and instead of ducking and landing on his butt to save his life... steps across, swivels and hooks him for a six... and follows up with a four... thus reducing the number of runs needed from a difficult 49 off 44... to a manageable 39 off 42... that's what courage and confidence does... like a movie script, but actually happened in real life :)
