For the following statements - reply with only "agree" if you agree or "disagree" if you disagree with the statements below. Do not add any more words...

1) Afridi would have been dropped and forgottten a long time ago in any other cricketing nation (barring maybe Zimbabwe) rather than have a 20 year career

2) The only reason the Akmal brothers are still in contention is due to their attacking stroke play.

3) Without the Spot Fixing Scandal - YK would NOT have achieved 34 test centuries and 10K runs

Reasons -

1. Afridi came into international cricket with unbelievable potential. His first few Tests includes a Test 5for against Aussies & a match winning century against IND in India. He had a blasting 100 on a green top at Toronto & was one of the best players of 1997 WSC winning team, on AUS mine fields. If he was born otherside of Waga gate, chances were high to finish career as the first cricketer with 15K+ international runs, 1000+ Wickets & 250+ catches because BCCI won't have wasted such mercurial talent for shallow intertainment. I believe for any other major cricket teams (read 7 of top 8 Test sides apart from PAK), he had better chances to finish Test career with 150+ Tests for 7500+ runs at 38+ average & 450+ wickets at <35 average & 150+ catches from 2nd/3rd slip & gully. His biggest mistake from was that he didn't develop his bowling - quite expected in PAK domestic actually, where they are few overs longer than playing 4 innings of List A cricket, by the name of First Class match. Indian system would have made him a 40+ overs/Test bowler, who bats at 7. I do believe, he would have been a Test all-rounder in the mixture of Sakib, Ashwin & Moeen.

In ODI, he was wasted at 7/8 for 1.5 of his 2 decade's career - Indians or even Bangladeshis would have put him floating in between 1 to 5 and give him free licence to go after. A stats of 25/125 from someone capable of bowling 10 good overs is like diamond in ODI - sadly PAK think tank was happy to use him for larke lenge style win - once in a decade. I have seen every team promoting their free scoring strikers at the top, so that they can play freely - PAK tank put him at a spot where, one needs to count every second. No wonder Indian tank dropped MS from 3 to 7 and promoted Sehwag from 6 to 1; so did PAK tank with Afridi & then put Taufique Umar as opener in ODI (and dropped him from Test) - that's the difference of batting culture & intelligence.

His misfortune was that PCA forced Counties to reduce quota of foreign players just when he started career - otherwise, that guy was more potential than Ben Stokes as Test all-rounder, had he been in Counties just for 3 years at the start of career. I wonder, where Intekhab or even Imran had been now, had they not gone to Counties.

2. Partially agree now, but initially Umar came with unbelieveable potential. His first Test was as good as anyone on debut for PAK. Unfortunately, 35 years back that innings would have landed him in Counties within 2/3 months, in 2010, it landed him on the laps of Basit Alis & Ali Zias. Personally, I don't think Zaheer Abbas or Javed were better than Umar at 19, but from 19 to 23 they polished their game somewhere else. That golden 3/4 years of learning curve can't ever return once a batsman has turnished his batting disciplaine & focus for rubbish, what they call domestic cricket in PAK. Still, he has tremendous potential for this PAK side to bat at 6 and make the squad as back-up WK - don't think at 27, Umar is gone, but his Test career might have ended prematurely. Sad, because that guy could have changed the course of a Test in a session.

Ian Chappel rated Kamran the best man to replace Gilchrist as worlds premium WK batsman & I do agree with an Aussie Captain for a decade - they don't come by dozens & it takes lots of cricket vision to be among the top 2/3 Captains in history of the game. Unfortunately, after 2006, once he got assurance for his spot in 3 formats (& LO opener's job), instead of managing his fitness, body weight & keeping, he desided to manage his Captains. Otherwise, statistically, Kamran still is one of PAK greats as WK - could have owned almost every WK records for PAK by now. But, now I do agree that Arthur did want him as a replacement of Sharjeel - partially from desperation & partially because, stability & trusted mood of operation kept Fakhar hidden in PAK domestics for at least 3 years. Don't think, had Fakhar been taken to UK in 2016, Kamran would have ever played for PAK.

3. YK is most underrate player in PAK's history because of his inferior LO career, which is the main yard stick in PAK cricket outside PP - still he had led PAK to a T20 WC title. I would say opposite - had he played for say SRL instead of PAK, actually he had a realistic shot at ST's Test volume. In 17 years, that guy played 130+ Tests, may be out of possible 140 in total because for some reasons they denied him 10-12 Tests - that's 150 Tests in 18 years in total for PAK, which is embrassing for an elite cricket team; even SRL has played more Tests in that period & I am sure for SRL, YK would have played 170+ Tests, that's close to 15k runs for a man of his fitness. Spot fixing actually denied him PAK's Test captaincy for 6 years - as PCB wanted a more stable and trusted Captain after that horrible experience. No credit taken away from Misbah, but YK was a far better option in 2010 to be PAK Captain & he was more than capable to better Misbah's captaincy stats, which is basically built in UAE. What little captaincy I have seen from YK, he was the best Test Captain for PAK after Wasim in 1999 and counting still.

I think, the argument is also an assumption that Afridi or Umar won't have lasted in other teams, based on what they are now (or they finished with). On straight stats, I do agree - such mediocre player won't have stayed for 20+ years; but my point is, if we are to consider Afridi/Umar for IND, AUS, SAF or ENG - then we'll have to consider how their players are groomed & how their career planning is done.

Afridi was exceptional talent, who was wasted by everyone including himself. The only reason for that is PAK is the only major cricket team that puts T20/ODI well ahead of Test cricket, which actually develops cricketer. Both Afridi & Umar's focus was distorted at very early age, before developing into a proper cricketer. Even now, everyone talks about how good a finisher A Razzaq was - but truth is, he was more that capable of becoming a cricket legend by focusing on Test cricket (not that Test is superior, but it develops cricketers). Even for that PAK side of 2000s, imagine 5 batsmen, a WK, Razzaq & Afridi at 7/8 or 8/7 and 3 specialist bowlers - both were good enough to add 100+ Tests to their fairly mediocre career & that would have made them cricket greats.

Umar's Test career is different issue, but from Australia to Uganda - he would have opened in ODI within 1/2 years of his career - that might have erased him by 2012, but could have made him another Sehwag for a decade .... unfortunately Misbah put him at 7, rest is as they say history. I don't go much by work ethics, because it's part of culture - younger PAK players were groomed from the understanding that work ethics isn't the most important thing in life to represent PAK. Don't think, if that luxury had been there in 1987, Wasim or Waquar would have run 10KM everyday ..... just for warming.

You see, almost everyone was convinced that PAK players don't know English, so it's a big problem hiring foreign Coach - but Arthur is managing fine. It's not because he learned Urdu or PAK players suddenly has scored 7.5 in IELTS ..... it's just a matter of change in moods of operation - "understanding" that these "language tricks" won't work any more & I must thank Najam Sethi for this one.

Umar's work ethics was fine, never was any issue & I can assure you that - T20 Franchise are pro organization, unlike PCB - if this guy had issues with work ethics & attitude, he won't have been the most in-demand PAK player for last few years. What happens is that, if you get away with these so easily, one day you'll face your nemesis, Mian Umar is just paying off that debt.
