I wrote yesterday that so much time has been taken out of the game that Pakistan can only lose if they are dismissed for less than 100!

I am English, and I must say, we have more selection dilemmas than you now for the Third Test.

Don’t tell Mamoon , but we were lucky to narrowly squeak home in the First Test. And now we are weakened by having lost the world’s best all-rounder.

And there’s more. Our two very old fast bowlers have just played 3 back-to-back Tests. Archer has looked bored and unwilling to bowl fast. Our spinner is about to finish a second Test this summer in which he didn’t bowl a single ball. Our batting is as bad as yours.

Pakistan only really need to make a Fawad or Shadab call. But we have a rather unsteady team currently.

Think the picture is old news already. Met office is predicting rain all day. Another washout it seems

Weather forecast looking awful again.

Match should just be abandoned right now. Save everyone the bother of having to go through the motions and play out a draw.

Ha!
I do agree with you regarding 1st test but credit should be given to England for the epic 4th innings chase.

Your old fast bowlers are proven matchwinners, Archer will bowl fast, now that he is seeing competition for his spot in XI, the spinner didn't bowl cuz pacers are finishing it. Your top order batting might be unreliable but overall England lower order is very dangerous and is capable of winning the game.

Pakistan would love to have "unsteady team"; it's Babar or bust for our batting and our bowling is a bunch of unproven newbie pacers and a 50 overs per innings workhorse spinner.

Timings will be the same for today and 98 overs

1100 - 1300 morning session
1340 - 1555 afternoon session
1615 - 1830 evening session
+ 30 minutes to bowl the overs

Dry ground...no rain but still cannot start the game 30 mins before even after losing almost 2 days of cricket.

11am means 11am.

Jos Buttler speaking to Sky Sports:

"There are certainly some challenges, the ball can move extravagantly sometimes after it has pitched and England seems to be the worst place for it. The Dukes ball as well, we talk about the ball swinging when you're batting in England and keeping wicket, it can be tough. What is important is to practice your mind to think that the ball won't wobble.

"It does tend to be infrequent so you're 90 per cent catch, it doesn't tend to wobble and that is the one you need to focus on. If it does wobble, tension is the thing that will make you drop that ball. If you stay relaxed and almost laugh it off as it is coming towards you and still have soft hands, you might be able to grab hold of it."

Nasser is great, never afraid to speak his mind and thinks like a cricket fan.

Spot on. We already have lost so much time and we cannot start early? Ridiculous rules.

Reminds me of standing outside M&S for it to open doors sharp at 9am with all staff standing inside, twiddling thumbs!

Cricket is a very English game - sticklers for rules:)

Rain is our only hope of saving this game

Remeber this pak batting line up can be bowled out within a session

Naseem is a 17 year old. He doesn't look like he knows how to hold a bat.

In pak produce these 90s tailenders

Rizwan finding it difficult to get it going this morning.

:))

Funny. Perhaps the main reason why there is at least some order in the English society.

In the West people have to follow the rules... there is no other choice.

Coming back to cricket I really hope cricket boards are allowed to use pink balls with lights on if the play is stopped because of bad light.

When crowds are involved & tickets are already sold for a fixture, it's impossible to move a match from one venue to another, because of expected weather interruptions. However, in current circumstances, when there's no involvement of crowd, can't they move next test to a venue where less rain is predicted? There's got to be at least one such ground in England, with a well prepared pitch & outfield.

I'm asking because current forecast for next match is worse than this!!

Pakistan have done the right thing batting on.

England can only win by batting once and then bowling Pakistan out cheaply.

But Pakistan can only win by taking time out of the game, then bowling England out cheaply

PAK bottom half have added 114 so far, we’ll done Rizwan - he has 67 of those.

Poor stuff from Broad...that is not how to bowl against tailenders. You need a bowler like Bumrah or Malinga...yorker on the base of middle stump. Just a matter of 1 ball.

im not sure but i think the sponsor of naseem shah is actually a comapny started by a very old poster from pakpassion from canada

His bat has a canadian logovand a uzi name

I think Misbah worry about loosing the match so told batsmen to waste as many over as they can

The other benefit of batting on is that it shortens the bowling session.

This is a perfect surface (and atmospheric conditions) for Mohammad Abbas, and he should be able to bowl through both sides of lunch without a break.

Rizwan is Pakistan's future captain. Astute and a great mind.

I’m impressed by Rizwan.

Really hope he can get a century here.

Oh dear. 250 would have been good.

But wonderful stuff by Rizwan, nonetheless.

Great innings but that was a comical way to get out.

Well played though Rizzi.

Oh well never mind. Well played Rizwan!

236 is a good score by Pakistan.

Rizwan is a very fine Test cricketer.

All this fuss about Dhoni, but in the Test format Rizwan is a vastly superior batsman outside Asia - and at least as good with the gloves.

He’s a class act. Better than Moin Khan with both bat and gloves and a better batsman than Rashid Latif too.

Nasser Hussain is that you?

Day 4 - INNINGS BREAK

PAK 236/10 (91.2), CRR: 2.58

Rizwan 72 (139)
Abid 60 (111)
Babar 47 (127)

Min. Overs Remaining: 92.4

Good time to get out, the ball was doing quite a bit and it's best to get use of these conditions right away.

236 is decent given the conditions. Well done Rizwan for toughing it out.

Hopefully the seamers can give us some fun.

If I were Root, I'd go in and tell my batsman to score a quick fire 150-200. Go all guns blazing! Either get all out or declare - whichever comes first.

Insert Pak again and try to trigger a collapse which is very much possible. You could get Pak all out for 100; setting a target of 130-180.

Rizwan is Pakistan's future captain. Astute and a great mind.

Not really. He was abysmal as the captain of A team and his selfishness was on full display. He is astute but lacks man management skills.

He is a passionate energetic cricketer but he is not captaincy material.

If we can bowl this pathetic England side out for less than 80...

Good inns by rizwan. Lets hope our seamees can do damage in useful conditions here.

Why are people making out that we have these amazing attack.

2 young bowlers with no credentials

Heavily reliant on yasir to get wickets which means we are left with abbas

I still resent Rizwan batting himself above specialist batsman Saud Shakeel in those A team series in 2018/19. Rizwan may have been in good form but that was very selfish.

Okay then. But loved his game awareness in this match. He has all the qualities of a world class keeper batsmen, ala, BJ Watling level.

1)Game awareness
2)Astute
3)Excellent behind gloves

He is 29 now so given that Pakistan don't have any option apart from Babar for captaincy, it shouldn't be a bad call IMO. Pak need to move on from Azhar.

What's your take, MMHS?

Yes I was referring to that.

He is from the Hafeez-misbah school where promising young batsmen are discouraged to keep mediocrity thriving. Knowing PCB and current management he is perfect candidate for future captaincy.

Well you can't take wickets with the new ball in these conditions you deserve bloody shooting.

This should be expected.

The only team saved by lack of cricket in this match is Eng. Pak did really well to get 236 here.
