Very commendable and he really did not need to do that if he didnt want to!

My Respect for Deano has gone through the roof after this.

He's been regularly visiting Pak. Much respect to him.

Other cricketing legends often visit us too. Like MCGrath, Gibbs etc for tv shows.

Not too surprising. To me, Deano seems to enjoy the fact that he is head coach of a cricket team. He will help grow the PSL so it's relevance is ultimately as important as the IPL and Big Bash. He was the only foreign coach to go to the inaugural draft and was involved in the United victory tour around the campuses of Punjab.

I know but this is different. More coverage , more high profile and perhaps more risky than a casual low profile visit.

Dean Jones love Pakistan cricket more than Sethi.

I can see that. Which is impressive. The dude really shows a lot of love for our boys. He should be a couch to develop our youngsters. Like he needs some important roles in Pakistan cricket.

If he is coming for free, i.e. he is not getting paid a hefty amount to come, then he really does care and support Pakistan cricket. However, if he is getting paid a good sum, then it simply means that he has a greater capacity to take risk compared to some of the other players who have refused to come. Some people are risk-takers, some are risk-averse. It is down to an individual's nature.

No need to romanticize it and make claims that he is coming 'in support' of Pakistan cricket because you have an axe to grind. Of course, I'm basing this on the assumption that he is not getting paid any extra sum for going to Lahore.

i dont think he is doing it for the money. if u read his plea to the foreign players, it was all from the heart!
this guy is a gem. also read his piece about the sharjeel and latif episode. that got me

Haha, nobody travels anywhere on his own expenses.

Did you even read his article, the way he's trying to promote a better image of Pakistan in the media? That was romanticizing indeed. :shezzy

Do you have any idea why all the others who are also being paid are not bothering to support in the same way or traveling too? Not only the mercenary cricketers but also the commentators? :srini

Yes you are making assumptions.

The others aren't traveling because like I said, they are more risk-averse than him. Saint Jones is not coming to Pakistan out of the goodness of his heart, but because he is prepared to take a risk if the reward is high enough. As for the lip-service and articles are concerned, I don't think it means much.

Nonetheless, people here want to believe that Saint Jones is coming because he really cares about Pakistan cricket, so perhaps I should let them believe what they want to believe. Pakistani fans are insecure and they need support and appreciation from foreign quarters. It is very nice to believe that Saint Jones as well as Saint Viv are coming because they love and support Pakistan cricket.

while he's there, he should try and become the coach of Lahore because they have failed miserably

Hahahahahahaha at Saint.

So, why was Dean coming to Pak all these years repeatedly? Because he "likes taking risk"? He's been campaigning for ISLU in many cities too.

"He likes taking risk"?

Or because he's been there several times and knows he can make a difference if he goes there again on a big stage like this? And nothing will happen?

if someone is coming he's a mercenary and money grabber? and if someone is not coming he's a coward ?

your logic have out grown you

i think its simple. its all about perception, dean jones is coming to pakistan becoz he already travelled islamabad/lahore many times. in his perception its fine to go to pakistan.
others who dont come to pakistan they have their own perception.

Who said anything about being a mercenary and a money grabber? What logic are you referring to? You seem to have mistaken me for some other poster.

Saint Jones is neither right nor wrong, and same goes for the players/commentators who have refused to go. As I said, different people have different capacity to take risks. Some people like Saint Jones, are willing to take risks if the reward is great enough, which in this case is a monetary one. It doesn't make him a mercenary or a money grabber, it simply means that he is less risk-averse than some of the other people.

Similarly, those who are not coming are not cowards. They simply don't want to take such a risk regardless of how great the reward is. There is some things in life you cannot put a price on.

Saint Jones hasn't visited Pakistan because of any goodwill. He was invited as an expert for PTV Sports two years ago, and obviously got paid a lot. As I said, there are different reasons why some people are risk-takers and why some people are risk-averse. The fact that Saint Jones has been in Pakistan a few times recently means that he is probably less apprehensive about the situation compared to someone who has never been in Pakistan. In any case, Saint Jones is not coming here because he bleeds green; he obviously has incentives, and I don't see the point of romanticizing it.

Anyhow, I don't think there is any further need of commenting on this. Regardless of why he is coming, it is a positive thing. Very good to see.

Dean Jones also came to Rawal Pindi and toured Islamabad, just to play a celebrating match in Rawal Pindi.

Islamabad United had a smal celebratory tour in Islamabad, where the Islamabad united team(local players) went to schools and Unis in Islamabad and also visted public places in isloo with the trophy. He also played a match.

Don't think they paid him a hefty amount just to feature in that match, probably has a contract with the United team.

Thus, by going by his history, it could be assumed that Saint Jones has a big heart.

Its wrong to assume that he is after money if you go by his history

Respectable person, who always looks forward to help revive international cricket in Pakistan.

I'm aware of all of that. Yes yes, Saint Jones it is. Should be given honorary citizenship.

Mamoon is making himself a complete joke in this thread

Just leave it already. Where has anyone said anything like that? We should be happy that he is coming to watch the final whether or not he is being payed. Maybe he is genuinely interested in Pakistan cricket. Please tell us. How do you want people to react to this news? You are being too condescending and egotistic on this thread. Just enjoy your teams victory and let people be happy that he will come to watch the final instead of bashing them.

Look good on Deno, but anyone who knows him also knows he is desperate to coach Pakistan, he has always been honest about it and never hides it

I have already stated that people want to follow the narrative of Saint Jones coming to Pakistan because he loves Pakistan cricket and is concerned about the lack of international cricket here. As I said earlier, we are an insecure nation and are always looking and fishing for foreign appreciation.

The idea that Saint Jones is coming to Pakistan purely out of the goodness of his heart and love for Pakistan is indeed very heartwarming, but people continue to quote me because they did not like what I said, so what do you mean by 'leave it already'?

As you can see in post #32, I had no intention of posting in this thread further and ended the discussion on a positive note. Don't expect me to not reply an not explain my position if people are quoting me on it. I also responded to Major's post briefly, because I don't want to waste more time on this discussion which has no fruitful outcome in sight.

Better than Alan Wilkins; him and Wasim can complete the commentary team.
