Shopping malls are dying here and springing up in developing countries.

Here in Canada too, big box stores are closing down one by one (Kmart, Zellers, Sears, Toy r us).
A few reasons for it, one being stores like Walmart ate up their business by offering better prices and marginally better service. There were also some poor business decisions, branding/marketing mistakes. Then came the final nail in the coffin with online shopping like Amazon.
Malls have no future, even in developing world.
I remember in Brampton companies had started to open shops as separate places around the market area.
I never disliked the mall, it was a good place to stroll around. Yes, it as a time waste though. But it was an adventure.
In Pakistan however, i have hated the mall culture, as its just a club for the elites. Overpriced items, plus to enter a mall in Islamabad you need to fulfill a criteria, not everyone is welcomed there.
Males going alone are charged 300 or 500( dont remember).
Lol wut? They charge y'all to enter a mall? This ain't no amusement park lmao.
Malls are depressing, glad they are being closed, street markets are way better and more entertaining.
they actually do.
malls save up alot of space. In crowded cities, they do have a future
I always prefer to buy clothes at malls. The variety is great and and you can always stop at a restaurant or do something else in between.
It is also good for killing time, especially if you go shopping with the missus and leave her to her business while you do something else.
They are also a necessity in hot countries. For example, it is unthinkable to not have malls in the UAE. People will get baked if they have to shop in an outdoor environment especially in the summers.
Of course there is always the option of online shopping, but many people, including myself, are not comfortable buying clothes and footwear without trying them on first, even if you know your exact size of a specific brand.
