I visited a city yesterday which has a large Asian population and was frankly shocked at the levels of ignorance and rule-breaking going on amongst the Asian community regarding Coronavirus.

It felt as if there was no virus and there never had been any virus.

Life was going on as normal, with no changes in any of the business or amongst the community.

What are your experiences of Desis during Coronavirus?

The same thing is happening here in Pakistan after the initial wave. People were afraid when covid started but now they don't care anymore until they are infected.

It’s not just Desi’s actually. Life is going on as normal amongst all communities.

Maybe there are just so many of us so it looks like more desis doing this. I saw lots of Arabs having total disregard for masks whereas the Desi community was pretty compliant.
also remember seeing lots of videos of US citizens protesting and heckling cops last year just when the coronavirus outbreak happened.

Exactly this. Desis are a convenient punching bag, both by others and from within the community as well

In America for e.g. Desis are far more likely to follow rules, even overdoing it because of the political divide (Desis tend to be left wing, and they as a rule do the opposite of what the right wing will do).

As an example, the CDC has said vaccinated people dont need to wear a mask outdoors and also when with other fully vaccinated folks.

But i know quite a few American Asians who are happily masking even when driving alone, as they dont want to to be mistaken for Trump supporters.

I was in Wilmslow Road last week and it seemed pretty much the same as anywhere else, most people wearing masks indoors and not many wearing them outside which is what I do as well. Obviously I try to maintain a distance which is expected.

Maybe that's the problem. People are forgetting that things are not yet back to normal yet.

I was in Soho last Saturday with family and everything felt like normal.
Streets were crammed, restaurants and bars were bustling and there was zero social distancing.

You only remember coronavirus when you enter a venue and have to wear a mask before being seated.

Tiny venues which should only have 8 to 10 people in them - instead packed with 30 or 40 people none of whom are wearing masks.

People coughing, sneezing, burping and whatever else on each other.

Well both the UK and US have high immunization rates, we're almost approaching herd immunity levels also the CDC already said we no longer have to wear face masks or socially distance once we've received both doses of the vaccine, heck in most of America especially my state everything has gone back to normal and we've had some days with few cases and no deaths so I don't think we should continue living in fear.

Also recently Fauci's email were released and he admitted that facemasks were useless

This!

During the ''Pandemic'' I have been to Italy, Spain, UK, Belgium, Germany and Pakistan. Every where the major parts (people) are going on.

The thing is that 99.8% does not get any serious effects of this virus. Here in the Netherlands even last year during April / May as soon as the weather improved people started ignoring the guidelines.

You cant blame the people, this has been going on far too long.

So, its not only a desi thing.

The biggest proof that face masks didnt make a difference, specially outdoors was when states which lifted mask mandates such TX did no worse than states which kept mask mandates on such as MI,IL, NY
That time Biden mocked Texas' decision as "neanderthal thinking", but it turns out they were right

Its not just the desis, parks are rammed, beaches are full tbf places like edgware road were full of arabs and stuff even during lockdown, they used to smoke shisha from their cars out side the shops until the council put big bollards on the road so no one could park. even now if you go out to central london soho has tables chairs on the road once people have a few drinks they forget about covid. life has to go on, but i will admit during lockdown i saw a lot of desis mingling ignoring rules etc.

The problem is more pronounced with desis. With americans (include desi Americans as well), there are still quite a few who are practicing safety measures. Still see people with masks, observing social distancing, etc.

But apparently this is all lost on people back home.

Lack of education, empathy and typical Desi pride. Inability to comprehend the bigger picture.

Unfortunately, I've also witnessed similar behavior from Desis.

True.

Places like Florida also have similar scenes.
