Did Australia miss a trick by not playing Glenn Maxwell against India in Tests?

Yes. he is not a show stopper in test cricket, Never has been. But given the fact that this Australia team is clearly lacking firepower and Maxwell does have some history with Indian team. How worse he could he have done when their top 6 average in 20s in this series?

I certainly think Australia missed a trick here. Instead of Finch they should have picked Maxwell for a middle order spot.

I am certain that the Al Jazeera investigation has had a massive impact on how the selectors have treated Maxwell since the summer. He was first asked not to play county cricket as he was given the impression that he would be an integral part of the tour to the UAE, but then given the miss-in-baulk. This explains pretty much.

Otherwise i was quite surprised why Maxwell's been left out of this series. He would have added some spice into this series given his track record against India. The game is psychological. Australia has not only missed Warner's runs but his fighting attitude out there.

Due to his horrible form this year. But I still think he has not been given a proper chance in test cricket. Maxi might have had more confidence if the selectors picked him in UAE and against India.

I also think maxwell is a much better spinner, should bowl a lot more frequently.

The ban of the trio meant players like maxi, handscomb, renshaw, kurtis patterson,joe burns, stoinis could shine. But aussie selectors have done a terrible job and picked below international standard test players.

Poor maxwell has beeen wasted, His aggressive batting is needed at no.6

I'm not sure if he is the answer but I think he deserves a run as Australia aren't blessed with options with Warner and Smith out. He seems desperate to do well in tests. Worth a run for 2 series.
