Did Christopher Nolan do injustice to world cinema for retiring his Batman as a trilogy?

I feel that the world is missing out big time on an amazing mind expressing brilliant ideas and sublime cinematic experiences by only pairing his batman to 3-4 villains. Surely, Nolan can and should give us more movies in this genre and possibly introduce other DC comic characters into his version of Gotham City. Seems like a 10-15 year wait to bring back Christian Bale as the true caped crusader might be a major box office tactic and a huge payday for Nolan and co. Hopefully, Bale remains fit enough to fulfil the athletic demands of the Batman character when he is close to 50

The Batman trilogy was an amazing , similar to when Tim Burton directed it in 1989. I wish Nolan would have continued.

Movies were great but I feel Nolan's batman was not as good as comic book batman. I feel nolan made the batman too realistic that It takes the comic book touch away from it.
Also Nolan's batman lacks detective skills. I Also think the villains were made too strong that they took away the limelight from batman in last 2 movies of trilogy.

I liked the first one best. I thought the second was intriguing - I enjoyed Aaron Eckhart’s performance best though I found Ledger a bit overrated to be honest - and the third a mess with Bane done all wrong and a lack of internal logic. I didn’t like the hard realistic edge which doesn’t really suit the Batman mythos IMO. Nobody dresses up as a costumes vigilante for real. No references to the wider DCU.

Much preferred Man of Steel even though Kal killed somebody, and even BvS.

The two best DC movies are still the first two Christopher Reeve Superman outings. Strong characters, decent plots and a touch of humour. No references to the DCU there either, but it’s worth remembering that Batman was considered silly in those days due to the sixties TV series. It was not until Frank Miller’s seminal four-issue story that the character started to get cultural traction again.

which frank miller story ? "Batman : year one"

This is a bit of a silly thread. How did he do injustice to world cinema? He's moving on from Batman to other projects. In fact, he did the world a favour. Such an amazingly talented director would go to waste working on batman. He's going to bring to life amazing stories which also deserve screen time

Fully agreed.

He must be punished for being thankless to DC fans who clearly deserve more Nolan movies.

TDKR was definitely the weakest of the three films so that's probably a sign that it was time to wrap things up. But I agree that it could have been explored and fleshed out more and could easily have been a five part series.

Still the greatest superhero movie series of all time.

Superman I-III.

Also one more thing I didn't like about Nolan's batman was his fighting skills specially in last 2 parts. batman being trained ninja should fight much better than what we see in TDK & TDKR.

You can't keep director like nolan for that long. He is made for making movies like inception & interstellar rather than superhero movies.

My favourite three Nolan films are Interstellar, Dunkirk and Memento.

Nolan ain't gonna direct pretty boy Twilight dude. I'm glad he ended with a trilogy and all three were great movies. Bale apparently was losing interest by the third movie as well

Expect that he is in Tenent.

On topic, no, Nolan is too good a filmmaker to be stuck doing Batman. He has had his say on the character and I am glad he had moved onto other stuff. I rather see another movie like Interstellar or Inception than a fourth Batman movie.

Exactly. It was a planned trilogy and came to it's logical conclusion. I personally think Batman is a played out character like Iron Man. Maybe Affleck ruined it for me but can't wait for future mind bending movies from Nolan

Hated Batman. Glad he is done with those. Inception and Interstellar are far better directed that suited his skills.

I agree with this assessment.

Batman movies in the past made villains look better than Batman. They should've kept a balance.

Nolan is one of the best directors in the world. Batman fans should be grateful they got 3 movies from him. Maybe they could have made third one two parts and squeezed out one more film, but he is not going to specialize in comic book films.

I expect good stuff from the upcoming Matt Reeves Batman movies as well. It all will be about going back to the roots - Batman the world's greatest detective. The Long Halloween storyline will be used.

Not sure though how Robert Pattinson will do as batman, but I am excited about Batman going back to how it's supposed to be.

The Penguin, The Riddler and some other rogues will play a part.
