Imad Wasim's first class batting average is 40.68 (better than Shan Masood) with a best of 207 and a bowling average of around 31 (3702 runs with 6 centuries and 141 wickets). I think Pakistan should have given him a chance in test matches considering the dearth of allrounders in our side. He could have given balance to our side. What are your thoughts about this?

He wasn’t serious about it himself I think

But yeah, he would have been a good Test cricketer.

Imad wasim in tests???

Wasim is not interested in playing any cricket for Pakistan which is why he retired but then he came back when PCB begged him for nothing just for the world cup and his performance is in front of everyone.

He is not interested in any format other than t20 or t10 where he has to bowl a maximum of 24 deliveries.

The question is moot because Inad never seemed interested in building a test career. But from what I have seen the shorter version of the game, his ability to always stay in the fight, his attitude to not give up, his mental strength would have served him well in longer version of the game. Not sure how much success it would have brought him but I have seen many inferior players compared to Imad have done relative okay. So who knows.

Absolutely not, he does not have the fitness for it to begin with so even if he was a test enthusiast bed end his career early

The guy doesnt even deserve to be in our t20 side after losing the match to india, and you want him to play test
The OP is saying that in the past, the PCB would have selected Imad Wasim in Tests based on his impressive first class record. He isn't advocating for Imad's inclusion in the Test squad at the present moment. But you didn't read the post carefully

Read the thread title.

So we are suppose to select players on the basis of stats of 10 years ago and not on current form?

Might aswell select Zaheer Abbas with that logic, because in the past he would had walked into the team

Imad Wasim just wants to pop his face into one of the Pakistani international teams every now and then to keep his stock 'current' for the PSL.

He achieved it with T20s in 2024. Maybe he can play a token test series after next year's PSL.

Better then bringing back Misbah as test coach who made rizwan captain, Shan masood opener, Abid Ali opener post heart surgery, played azhar Ali and Yasir Shah IN 2020 LOL, and lost the game by 101 runs.

Yes in the past he could have been a decent player but he wasn't really up for it.

He is not a proper spinner. He is a darter. Suitable for T20.

He could've played as a batter who could bowl a bit (i.e., Salman Agha).

Imad wasn't a Test bowler. You can't take wickets unless you get spin on the ball and Imad's bowling style is more suited to T20 cricket not even for ODIs.

If Imad was a better batter and more fit then yes he may have been useful.

He was never a test payer . You need specialists , wicket taker bowlers in test, not just defensive , economical bowlers and he is a good lower order batter, not an all rounder. I think his days for Pakistan in any format has come and gone, let him make some money in league cricket for his life after professional cricket .

His bowling would still remain a big question in Test cricket as you can't get wickets by bowling with flatter trajectories and no spin.
He'd be gun for getting the tail out, except for Aussie tail that's probs the strongest tail in the world

Should have been captain after Sarfraz. We'd have 2021/2022 T20 WCs in the bag and be in the top 4 in Tests and ODIs.

Sarfraz should not have been dropped until 2023 and kept playing till then until retirement.

Afterwards Muhammad haris and Saud shakeel should have been groomed as the next captains.

Haris if given actual playtime and opportunities around the world and given as many no of matches as Asif Ali, he'd become a great makeshift batter and he already proved his captaincy skills to be superior to the Likes of Shan and babar in acc cup.

Saud shakeel should have been red ball captain.

PCB did themselves a huge disservice by brining back misbah, the same guy who set t20 cricket years back in 2012 and was forcefully booted out of the team, and they expected him to fix the t20 circuit for pakistan even though pak was already ranked no 1.

Sarfi was a guy who let the coaches do whatever they wanted while he focused on captaining the team. Pakistan should have sacked mickey for his red ball nonsense and his over obsession of Imam ahead of Abid in whiteball and should have brought in Gary Kristen along with sarfi to do his thing, and yousaf could have been the batting coach to improve technical flaws.

Misbah doesn't let anyone do anything, he didn't even let watmore as coach do a damn and pinned all blame on him, afterwards Babar doesn't let anyone do anything either. Mickey Arthur was a passenger in the side with all his suggestions about abrar, haris and zaman Khan ignored.

Kristen similarly is also a passenger in the side and so is Jason Gillespie tbf.

None of the coaches can just say hey let's drop bobby before the nexus starts advocating for their removal

Would have averaged 25 with the bat and 45 with the ball. A joke of a cricketer.
