Did Kagiso Rabada get a free pass for his drug use due to IPL influence?

It is so frustrating to see how selective enforcement works in cricket! Had Rabada been caught in competition, he could have faced a two-year ban. Instead, his case was classified as out-of-competition use, allowing him to serve a reduced sentence, just enough to miss a few games before returning to the IPL.

The fact that this was covered up until a journalist exposed it raises serious questions. If this were a lesser-known player or someone outside the IPL bubble, would they have been treated the same way? Cricket needs consistent rules, not selective punishments based on influence.

Don't expect me to apologise again, says Rabada after ban

South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada says he will never be "Mr I-Apologise-Too-Much" after serving a one-month ban for testing positive for recreational drug use at this year's SA20 competition.

The 30-year-old Rabada can resume playing for his country in June, after being named in South Africa's squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord's from June 11 to 15.

Having already apologised for his actions in May, Rabada said he wanted to move on from the incident.

"I'm just glad to be playing again. The process was handled really well ... I think, as a player, and a man, people will have their different opinions. I can live with that," Rabada told media on Saturday before leaving for London.

"There are some people who would have been disappointed and to those people I'm deeply sorry ... The people closest to me are the ones I felt I let down.

"But life moves on. I'll never be 'Mr-I-Apologise-Too-Much'. But I'll never condone that action."

Rabada said he has been speaking with teammates, adding he plans to do more in the coming days to mend any rifts the incident may have caused.

"I think I owe it to them (to talk about what happened)," he said. "They're my teammates. We've come from so far.

"I've already spoken to them and I guess we can do so in more detail when we get together for an extended amount of time."

Rabada is likely to lead the fast-bowling attack in the World Test Championship final with seamers Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi and Dane Paterson also in the squad.

Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy are the two specialist spin options.

Rabada failed a doping test, for the use of a recreational drug, on 21 January and was notified about the result on 1 April 2025. But yea let's blame IPL because it's easier things to do for Indian haters 😂

:kp

Last year Doug bracewell NZ seamer, has been suspended for one month by the country's Sports Tribunal for "the presence and use" of cocaine and its metabolite benzoylecgonine.

Same suspension for kagiso rabada. But Nobody created thread on Bracewell one months suspension, why ??

Many reasons there but 1 is that Rabada’s case was initially covered up and only came to light because a journalist exposed it, adding to the controversy. With Bracewell, the news was handled transparently by New Zealand Cricket, reducing any sense of scandal.

It’s less about fairness in punishment and more about who is in the spotlight—the bigger the name, the bigger the reaction. If Bracewell had been actively playing in the IPL, his suspension might have sparked similar conversations.

Blame the South Africa cricket not IPL/ BCCI as thread Title suggests if south Africa Cricket board Hide this story. His suspension has nothing to do with IPL . :kp

You are defending because you are thinking like any biased individual will.

Look at the whole scenario and the situation that rabada was in..

It is not me who found it awkward, there are many out there asking the same question and they are not from PAKISTAN...

He took the drugs during one tournament playing for Indian franchise in South Africa and then was cleared quickly to play for another Indian franchise in IPL.

It's not hard to work out what happened. Cricket is slipping slowly and slowly further into the abyss due to the actions of people from one country

It seems like Rabada got preferential treatment due to IPL. Quite pathetic.

Cricket has turned into a farce sadly. A beautiful British sport got ruined due to petty politics, corruption, and overcommercialization from India.

India has destroyed cricket. :inti

What's the solution? Maybe it is time to make a new cricket governing body. Ditch BCCICC.

I don't give a damn about rabada but bringing IPL / india when we have nothing to do with his suspension is foolish.

In other thread, I already mentioned that people's will blame IPL and here is the proof. It's very predictable from Certain IPL haters bro .

Bracewell suspension was same as rabada which showed that it has nothing to do with IPL . :kp

Btw in OP article , there is no mention of his suspension related to IPL , but a random X poster is talking it because he hates The IPL so bro @BouncerGuy change the entire theory .lol

The burn is quite visible and I knew, you would be the first person to jump on this train.

Come on bro... connect the dots and you will understand everything untill you chose to stay blind.

If it was a Pakistani he would have been labelled a cheat forever and would have been banned for 1-2 years. The reputation of the country and its people matters.

Exactly. Burn is clear visible for IPL haters due to success of IPL so anything happens at anywhere they blamed the IPL 😂😂 :kp
