"If we had lost to Australia or India, say Kohli or Smith had played such knocks against us, we wouldn't have really taken it to heart. They are top players. They are top teams. We didnt have much to do. I am not belittling them. Raza, Chakabva and Kaia played unbelievably well, but it proved that we have a lot to improve in our ODI side"- Tamim Iqbal

No he didn't.

He is rightly upset that Bangladesh lost to Zimbabwe and he is acknowledging Zimbabwe played well but you still expect Bangladesh to beat the hosts.

Why would they take it to heart if Smith and Kohli smash them? Do they genuinely believe those teams are below them or on their level?

Weird comments

All I know is one bloke here said Aage Aage dekho hota hai kya

Well I guess he was talking about this

I believe it was unnecessary comment from Tamim in public. They played extremely well and we were short/we need to improve would have been enough.

Yes in the dressing room, to his players he could have maybe said those things but, no point of saying them publicly. Serves no purpose and can be taken in wrong way irrespective of Tamim's intentions.

BD were expected to beat Zimbabwe.

Last 22 ODI games: BD won 20 and Zimbabwe won 2 (including this series).

Last time Zimbabwe won a series against Bangladesh before this tour was in 2013.

Having said that, Tamim could've worded it better. This type of stuff should be said in private.

Poor mindset of BD Cricket Players, goes to show the superstar mindset without achieving anything of substance due to big money involved.

He probably meant that these players were no big stars yet they did so wel, instead if a renowned player does well against you, it is a known thing and you expect that, so it doesn't feel that bad.

But I do agree that Tamim could have worded it better. I'm fact he should have avoided any comparison and could've simply talked about how Bangladesh can improve going forward.

Bangladesh through their history have always referred to India, Australia etc as "big teams", underlining their minnow mentality perfectly.

Tamim is actually one of the more mature and composed cricketer from Bangladesh. Think he didn't articulate it well.

To be frank, not sure what to make of this statement. Does he mean that Bangladesh would not take this defeat seriously because it was not against India or Australia? Does it mean they can lose to teams below them and feel nothing about it because the opponent is not a top team? I thought losing to teams you are supposed to beat should hurt you a lot more.
