Pakistan 80% chance to win the CT panel. Series win over australia and south africa defenetely put them in strong contender on paper.As CT played in Asia, Pakistan having home advantage. Declining of india and australia in ODI's put pakistan in hot favourite to win the title.
 
The nature of pitches in Pakistan/UAE are different than Aus SA, therefore these results are irrelevant
 
Icc events are a different ball game. I ak finally enjoying pakistan cricket and am really looking forward to watch pakistan play.

Infact I have even enjoyed rizwan's odi batting in the last 2 games, a fact I do not wish to admit.

However I dont wish to make the same mistake brother @Rana warned me about in 2023 NZ series.

In that series everything was hunky dory as well. Pakistan was demolishing sides pre NZ and poat NZ until Asia cup.

Against NZ, Babar got multiple 50's × 1 100, Rizwan got multiple back to back 50's at a sr of 100, Salman Ali Agha got multiple back to back 50's, Fakhar got a 120 × 180, shaheen, Naseem and Rauf had wasim akram and waqar younis level figures. Even chacha butchered NZ and iftimania nonsense started.

Only shadab, Usama mir and nawaz were poor.

everyone did bhrangra until Asia cup and wc where pakistan got beaten black and blue.

I want to be provem wrong however but I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon this time around.

Besides fakhar, Everyone else who performed vs NZ flopped like a fish in the world cup.

I only have hopes from saim in the same way I had hopes from fakhar and it paid off.

But I'm in no mood to watch history repeat myself and be made a fool again.
 
Objectively, Pakistan are favourites now.

1/ Defending Champions
2/ Home conditions
3/ Fantastic form with series wins in SA and Aus
4/ Young guns like Saim are in excellent form; big match clutch players like RizBar are among the runs and raring to go. They want this CT bad, you better believe that. Shaheen is back in form and when the eagle is soaring, guys like Cummins, Rabada and Bhumrah cannot do much.
5/ Kaptaana - Pak have arguably the best ODI captain now. His field placings, IQ, review taking, calmness under pressure remind me of Dhoni. He could be Pakistan's Dhoni winning CT, WC and WCT20 in the next 5 year cycle
 
Pakistan have done well, and will compete in the tournament, but there is not a chance that they are favourites.

Time and again one day bilaterals have proved to be false predictors of ICC tournament performance. Countries come with their A game and their A team for the latter.

Yes he is. Travis Head even after being in puprle patch is nowhere near close to Babar career wise and Warner is already retired with a good enough career. Babar will retire with a better one InshaAllah.
 
The resident circus clowns (I don’t need to name & shame them; they know who they are) will now play the narrative that it is Saim or bust for Pakistan in the CT.

That however is utter nonsense. Pakistan is one of the best ODI sides around due to the following players apart from Saim:

Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen, Fakhar, Agha

These 5 along with Saim is a very, very good core. I don’t like Naseem but he is an OK support bowler for Shaheen and one of the smartest tailenders around.

As long as Rauf is not losing matches for Pakistan and Rizwan can somehow get him to bowl consistently enough which he has for the most part in his captaincy, Pakistan are heavy favorites to qualify for the final.

does not have the body of work that Babar has in international cricket and anyone with a good game understanding knows it.

Travis Head has already

A) Scored 9 test centuries averaging higher then Babar atm including 2 back to back test centuries against India in a lineup featuring bumrah + brutal wtc India beat down winning a wtc for his country.

B) scored a wc century in a final and his wc 2023 wc performance has yet to be matched by Babar Azam

C) Has one of the most impressive Sr's in t20 history while Babar is frequently memed for it.

Babar is only ahead in no of centuries and avg in odi because he's cashed in on 5 centuries against a rubbish wi lineup, a few against c string 2018 sa and c string 2019 aus, followed by Nepal etc etc.

Excluding rubbish, he really has 6-7 odi centuries only.

Travis head on the other hand doesn't play against minnow attacks cause it's beneath him. Australia frequently rests him against rubbish attacks like Zimbabwe because they know that he's needed in icc events + Full strength sides like eng and India.

Furthermore Travis Head's avg is rising in every format, with him avg 38 and sr 178 in t20 + 50+ in odi + 45+ in tests in 2024 while babar's test + t20 record in 2024 is a horror show.

Babar's avg is declining day by day as well.
 
Head has 0 test centuries away from home and 1 in neutral venue. He doesn't deserve to tie Babar's shoelaces in tests. Simply a glorified HTB.
 
Winning ODI series in Aus and SA is indeed top performance. Pakistan has to be one of the favourites now for CT especially since it will be played in their home conditions. I have a strong feeling it will be Ind v Pak finals and a repeat of CT 2017.

Pakistan will definitely beat them. It depends on the format. With Shaheen back to his best, and Saim, Bobby and Kaptaana firing all cylinders with KG, I am having a hard time seeing India beating Pakistan especially with Rohit and Kohli nearing their end.

Lot of People especially Indian posters here are trying to downplay by calling it B/C team

When Pak won Series against SA in SA during 2021 tour.. SA fielded their full strength team in first 2 ODIs. Credit to Pak for holding up and winning one match making it easier for them to win 3rd. That one win against Full Strength is evidence alone that Pak was capable. Even Pak Almost defeated SA in second ODI with Fakhar Smashing Nortge , Ngidi and Rabada all over the Park

Similar thing was repeated in AUS tour. AUS played full strength in first 2 matches thinking they will close out the series and pre announced the rotation. To Pak’s credit they almost won at Melbourne and then Comprehensively Dismantled Aussie side in second ODI.

This Current tour Pak won three games on back of young players not even in double figures as far numb of matches are concerned

1. Saim Ayub
2. KG
3. Saim Ayub and Sufyan Muqeem

If SA gave chances to new players so did Pakistan

All talk of B/C team is rubbish

Only morons would actually have this take. Secondly when it comes to HTB, First tell babar to become an htb before mocking one. Babar was so bad at home that he got booted out of the test team for Kamran ghulam who scored a test century in debut.

What's worse he was a circus clown on the same pitch England tonked 800 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
 
I am not even hating Pakistan for winning against Australia and SA.

They actually played well.

But it is JAMODI, unfortunately.

I will see what happens in CT.
 
It’s a team that can make the semi final. I am not convinced it’s a favorite or even the top ODI side going around.
SA, NZ, India, England and Australia have better ODI sides when they are in full strength.
1. Fakhar needs to come good.
2. Babar and Rizwan need to be in form and need to sort out their strike rates.
3. Agha and Kamran need to be a lock.
4. No7 requires someone who can offer something with the ball.
5. Abrar Ahmed needs to have a really good tournament.
6. Need a fit and firing Wasim Junior.
7. Reverse needs to come into play.
 
Pakistan Winning against "B" team's in bilateral series because no One take JAMODI Seriously aparts from Pakistan team and Their fans.

But whenever tournaments comes ( Asia cup or ICC tournaments) , every team's are played with full strength and pakistan team getting smashed left and right.

They had lost against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka ,USA( LoL ) etc in recent tournaments and knockout from group stages itself. ( Asia cup, ICC world cup , ICC world T20)

Another reality check is awaiting for them in champion trophy that's too at home. What a Humiliation it will be when they knockout from champions trophy after losing against arch-rival india .

You can never rule Pakistan out because they tend to do the unthinkable in difficult scenarios but not gonna say that they are favorites.

ODI side is good overall, just needs few tweaks.

Pakistan without Saim Ayub got beaten in both the tri series and got humiliated in the CT.

With Saim Ayub, they were clear favourites :inti

They played without Saim, Imad, Fakhar, Amir and were unlucky during the whole tournament playing a home match in Dubai where Bharat was the real home team, getting one washed out game.
 
Pakistan got unlucky because of a tougher group. And they had peaked couple of months early.
