In the Gulf some highways are 140kph which I find a little disconcerting
 
Speed limit for highways is fine here (Ontario). It is 110 KMH.

the 110 is a pilot project and only in certain patches of some highways, mostly it's 100KMH and speeding fines are very harsh
 
If you're going to design cars that can go really fast, you shouldn't be restricting speed. You're just teasing people then.

120kph is higher than the UK limit of 70mph.

I think 80mph is a better speed limit on motorways, most people do this already.

Boom Boom probably wants nearer 100mph :afridi
 
Its 75 MPH on most highways in Texas, except one Toll one near Austin SA- it is 80mph.
 
Should more countries follow the autobahn in Germany, reccomended speed limit of 80mph but in derestricted areas you can go as fast as you want.
 
someone needs to show him the average car in pakistan and how long it takes for it to stop at that speed.

Country needs to enforce yearly mot tests - till then 60mph and introduce a safety guide of 3 seconds rule between cars on motorways = pakistan
 
I see no problem with 80 mph on British M-ways. Lots of drivers do it anyway.
 
Nope, afridi doesnt know what he is saying.

Pakistani cars are very much faulty as they are driven on rough roads with speed bumps, broken roads and potholes everywhere. This damages your car.

Now when you take that same car on motorway, you will be at 110kph, once you cross 120kph most of our cars steering starts bubbling. I habe driven a gli and a passo on motorway and passo starts bubbling at 110 kph while gli starts to bubble after 120-130kph.

Dangerous and puts everyone else at risk.

I think Afridi drives a kia so maybe its built quality. You have to make sure that the road is safe for everyone.
 
A beautiful thing. Ive travelled many times, hitting speeds of upto 160mph. :)

Whats it like? Is there a fast overtaking lane on it? Or do you get fined if you drive at a slowrr speed compared to others kn autobahn

Just a normal European motorway, although in some parts not the best due to it age. Now they have introduced sections where there is no speed limit, previously a longer stretch was free to hit the gas.

You should always be careful travelling such speeds when there are normal public drivers on the same road. You can never 100% be sure what another driver will do.

Its far better to use the Nürburgring which is one way track with no speed limit throughout. Usually better drivers too. Great circuit with high speeds bends. Drivers often hit near 200mph if they have car.

I had the pleasure of driving on the Autobahn a few weeks backs. The unlimited speed is in certain patches of the highway. The drivers have to be really aware as someone faster is always behind you

That's exactly what it is, the faster traffic is on the left and the very left lane is reserved for passing. The slower vehicles drive on the far right. You can't pass from the right, that has a ticket.
 
german drivers have v good lane discipline on the autobahn that's why it works for them. its kinda like they know what they have is special so work together to preserve it by not acting like idiots.

its a crazy feeling doing 140 odd in a van in the slow lane to get overtaken by a group of bikes. but the dangerous thing is u get used to it, then coming down to normal speed seems soooo slow.

Also you can’t hold 150 mph on the autobahn for long as eventually you run into a bunch of trucks and have to slow down.
 
English motorways are an absolute mess.

The amount of traffic and the state of the roads means that there is no way they can increase the speed limit.

From my experience on the 401 or QEW, the cops don't care as long as you're not above 120s

Yes that's generally acceptable as long as it's with the traffic flow. If you're the only car on the road and the cops haven't met their quota, that's another story

In Punjab the fog can be deadly. I have seen some scary videos where cars are driving at 100-120 km/hr and ending up crashing into parked cars up front which they fail to see in time.
 
My problem with speeding drivers is that somehow they survive crashes but kill people who had nothing to do with this craze.
 
Speed limits in built-up areas look set to be reduced from 30mph to 20mph in Wales from next year - a UK first that is controversial among some drivers.

Ministers say a 20mph speed limit will lower road collisions and traffic noise and encourage people to walk and cycle.

The slower limit has been divisive in areas where there have been trials with some motorists complaining of more congestion and journeys taking longer.

The proposed new law will be put before a Welsh Parliament vote on Tuesday.

Many UK towns and cities have 20mph limits on residential roads but Wales is to become the first nation to impose it as the default on all restricted roads - with Scotland set to follow suit in 2025.

Leading active travel groups claim Wales will become the world's first nation to adopt a national 20mph default speed limit on residential streets.

A woman who was killed on a smart motorway after her car broke down was unable to get over the barrier before she died, an inquest heard.

Nargis Begum, 62, from Sheffield, was travelling on a stretch of the M1 with no hard shoulder near Woodall Services on 9 September 2018.

The Nissan Qashqai car, driven by her husband, "suddenly" dropped speed and pulled into the far left lane.

She died when a Mercedes collided with the Nissan, causing it plough into her.

An inquest at Doncaster Coroner's Court on Tuesday heard Mrs Begum and her husband, Mohammed Bashir, 69, were driving from Derby to their home in Darnall in Sheffield when the car slowed down.

The couple had borrowed the car from their daughter, Saima Aktar, 40, as Mrs Begum suffered from arthritis and preferred to travel in the Nissan, the hearing was told.

When the car broke down Mr Bashir pulled over into what he thought was the hard shoulder, but which was in fact a live lane of the smart motorway.

In a statement he said he put on the car's hazard warning lights and the couple got out of the car.

Mr Bashir climbed over the barrier and phoned his daughter, but Mrs Begum was unable to get over the barrier as it was too high.

He said when he looked back at the car he could not see his wife and assumed she had gone to cross the barrier further along the road.

The inquest heard that as he was going back to the car to get the recovery documents, another car hit the Nissan.

Mr Bashir said another car then hit the vehicle that had crashed into them.

The inquest heard he saw Mrs Begum lying on the ground and Mr Bashir said in his statement: "I don't want to describe what I saw as it is still too upsetting."

'Dangerous and flawed'

A statement from the couple's daughter, Saima Aktar, said she had been on her way to pick her parents up after learning about the crash when she called Mr Bashir, who said: "Sweetheart, the situation has changed, there's been an accident and your mum's been hurt."

Ms Aktar added: "This accident has broken our family but we are united in not wanting this to happen to another family.

"We all believe the smart motorway system is dangerous and flawed - if there had been a hard shoulder my dad would have ended up there."

In February it was confirmed National Highways will not face a corporate manslaughter charge over Mrs Begum's death.

What is a smart motorway?

A smart motorway is a stretch of road where technology is used to regulate traffic flow and - hopefully - ease congestion. There are three main types:

Controlled, which have a permanent hard shoulder, but use technology such as variable speed limits to adjust traffic flows

Dynamic, where the hard shoulder can be opened up at peak times and used as an extra lane; when this happens, the speed limit is reduced to 60mph

All-lane running, where the hard shoulder has been permanently removed to provide an extra lane; emergency refuge areas are provided at regular intervals for cars that get into trouble

All three models use overhead gantries to direct drivers. Variable speed limits are introduced to control traffic flow when there is congestion, or if there is a hazard ahead. These limits are controlled by speed cameras.
