It’s all about media streamers these days.. you don’t need a dvd, blu ray, satellite or cable box since a media streamer pretty much does it all.

In the US, apart from Xbox and PlayStation, amazon fire tv, roku, Apple TV and nvidia shield are the top of pile.

Some other lesser known or underground ones are of course the MAG boxes and hundreds of Chinese made android ones.

What’s your weapon of choice?

I have an Apple TV since I’m in the Apple ecosystem.

Arguably the best of the lot at the moment.. I use one myself.. I am a bit of a hobbyist and own 4/5 different ones but Apple TV’s is certainly the most favorite one.

NVidia Shield TV. Nothing comes close to it in terms of processing power and of course it doubles as a gaming console too.

I was one of the first to receive it when it first came out back in 2015. It was my top streamer for years before Apple TV 4K came along. By the way you can use appletv for gaming using moonlight gaming app which is the same as Nvidia GE force.

I'm not into the Apple eco system so I never really bothered with testing their streaming device. I prefer Android devices, which I can tweak with any way I like. I've tested a few Android boxes and firetv. Xiaomi Mi box is supposed to be the best budget Android TV but I find it extremely sluggish.
.
Geforce is pretty good when it comes to gaming and add steam to it with the power of shield, it makes it more than a capable console for mid-range gamers. I only played a handful of games and they streamed pretty well. The thing I love the most about shield is its gaming controller. It is extremely ergonomic and looks great too. I find PS4 and Xbox controllers much inferior to the Shield one.

If any of you use IPTV services on Android TV, I'd suggest purchasing Tivimate app to load your IPTV. It is by far the best thing I have on my shield.

If you have ge force subscription, yes shield is the best and only one that offers that service.. but there is a steam link app for Apple TV and moonlight takes care of streaming games from Pc.. really with moonlight you have all the bases covered. And you can pair most game controllers with Apple TV now as well. I like the dual shock ps 4 one with Apple TV.. works great.

But for iptv, on Android stb emulator works just like a mag box. On Apple TV, mrmc works really well with iptv and other media. I use appletv in the living room and nvdia shield is in my bedroom.

Mibox is crap.. I prefer firetv cube over it, honestly.

Apart from streaming, it's the Airplay feature that fascinates me.

What is the benefit of Apple TV to that to a own personal media stream server where you could run various streaming platforms in itself?

Iam not having television set since from 2010.
Lol same here. I don't own a TV since 2005. Still don't. As I have grown older, I have felt I am too impatient to sit in front of the TV and watch something. That's why I have hard time watching a movie unless it's a real good one.
