I got hooked into intermittent fasting 3 months ago. Since then, I tried to learn more about it and started to do it regularly.

I am now seeing great results with it.

Here's one video from Dr. Jason Fung (writer of The Obesity Code):

I do it and so far have seen good results, really good to detox your body and increase weight loss.

Indeed.

I have lost 15 pounds in around 2.5 months. Also, my body feels much better. I read that it lowers blood pressure, improves insulin resistance, and lowers inflammation.

I noticed one thing. Calorie restriction almost never works. It is because when you restrict calories, metabolism slows down. Fasting is a healthy and proper way to lose weight.

When you fast, insulin goes down. Insulin is the fat storage hormone. Every time you eat, insulin goes up. So, it is not just about what you eat but also about how frequently you eat.

So I also did intermediate fasting lost 25 pounds in 3 months (I was a lil chubby so they were like the last pounds left which is harder to lose...) but I don't work out because I hate cardio and I don't lift weight because my shoulders are naturally "freakishly" big so if I do even a bit of weight training I look like a local phelwan with gandasa and I hate looking that way because people in my age group don't look that way so no weight training, no cardio but! I was eating 1000 to 1300 calories in my window (basically for the whole day)

Now i understand the reason for your username :ab, also have a friend that did kushti growing up didn’t need any workout for years, so those pehlwans are actually pretty healthy much better at overall fitness imo

Nice.

I still have to lose 35 more pounds to call myself fit. I am currently overweight.

I am doing this thing not just for losing weight but also for better health.

Intermittent fasting has no magical benefits. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either lying or is ignorant. It can be a good strategy for someone purely to deal with hunger when trying to lose weight. Even then it depends on the person. Personally when cutting, I like to eat small meals 4 times a day, spread out throughout the day.

Check Dr. Jason Fung's The Obesity Code.

I used to think like you and I tried doing this. But, fasting is giving me better results.

Check Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Mindy Pelz, and Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube.

Also, nobody is restricting calories with intermittent fasting. You can consume the same calories. But, you reduce the frequency. You take all your calories within 6-8 hours. That's the method.

Fasting has benefits like autophagy, BDNF, growth hormone etc.

lol it had more to do with me being a lil chubby at the time ...
My height is average (at least in the US) so if I was a bit tall I would have looked an actual Phelwan (not the Mexican Phelwan :ua (people in the US will get my reference)) ...

Are you talking about luchadores? :P
I’m hoping to check that out next year, happens in Texas , Texas has best offbeat(for me) sports honestly!

It was a game changer for me personally (kinda like a GTA cheat code)

So I don't know about the science behind it but I highly recommend it anyone struggling with weight issues to at least try it out

So personally it felt like a magic pill

I try to do it but its hard to stick to eating at same time everyday, theredfore i do OMAD which has its own benefits

I fast Monday and Thursday. I lost weight earlier in lockdown, put weight on after rozay

I love OMAD. But, it is hard for me. One of my friends does OMAD.

I go for two meals a day.

If you take bulletproof coffee - OMAD becomes a walk in the park.

After a few days you can come off the coffee.

I see. Thanks.

I also read that water mixed with salt (Himalayan pink salt) can make things easier while trying OMAD.

I am aware and that’s exactly what I’m saying. Your daily calories are the same but you consume them within a shorter window which can help with satiety. The fasting itself does not have any benefits. Weight loss and gain purely comes down to your calorie deficit or surplus over an extended period of time. Intermittent fasting is simply a strategy which can help you maintain a caloric deficit

not sure how, i guess its got nothing to do with calories but with electrolytes, as you pee you lose them and fill up with empty water, filtered of its nutrients, a receipe for disaster.

The pink salt will replenish those nutrients lost in wee and hold the water, so you dont dehyrate,

Fasting has some added benefits like activating growth hormone, BDNF production, correcting insulin resistance etc.

That's what I found out from Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Mindy Pelz. Check out Fung's book (The Obesity Code).

Also, check out this lecture:

Is one meal a day classed as intermittent fasting?

Yes. That's advanced intermittent fasting. It is called OMAD (One Meal A Day).

Any fast from 12 hours to 24 hours is considered as intermittent fasting.

This has been my routine for last 2yrs

I did OMAD and it worked a treat when all I was doing is walking 15,000 steps per day.

However, about 18 months ago I decided to get back in to playing football... So now I'm playing 5 aside three times a week and find myself binge eating and craving my favourite desi dishes.. So that one meal became so big that I was literally stuffing myself and finding myself actually putting on weight.

So I went back to having breakfast and then a late lunch at say 3pm and then not eating again until the next morning. This seems to be working for me.

If you play sports and/or do other hard physical activities, OMAD is probably not for you. OMAD is for regular people.

Having said that, 2MAD (two meals a day) is still doable for anyone. Key is to get all the required nutrition and sufficient calories.

Sounds a lot like my routine

A Noob question but what is intermediate dieting? I usually workout at night and i have to have something to eat before my work out otherwise i feel very lackluster. I feel i can avoid eating a heavy lunch in the afternoon and can make do with a very light snack and a cup of water, green tea, black coffee. But i need to have a decent breakfast and dinner (before my work out)

Intermittent fasting is not technically dieting. You are not eating less food. It simply means you reduce the frequencies.

The idea behind intermittent fasting is to control some of the hormones (mostly insulin). When we eat, our bodies release insulin and insulin is a fat storage hormone. So, the less frequently we eat, the less insulin we release. It is good for those who are already fat or have insulin-related conditions.

If you do workout at night, I think you can do this thing. Eat breakfast and dinner while skipping lunch. Ensure you get all the required nutrition and calories during your two meals. Try not to consume any calorie for 13-18 hours.

Frequent,Small Volume meals are way better than 2MAD. (2MAD is good only when you don't take a lot of liquids in between meals).

It depends on how effective your metabolism is. Not everyone has same metabolism.

I personally drink water all day as water doesn't have calories. I sometimes mix a bit of pink salt so that I don't lose electrolyte.

I have gotten better result with IF than small and frequent meals. I have lost 17 pounds in 2.5 months without losing any major muscle mass.

I’ve been doing Intermittent Fasting intermittently for close to a decade now: I follow it for weeks on end and then fall off the wagon. I guess this means I’ve really put the Intermittent in Intermittent Fasting...

Intermittent fasting definitely works. I did keto and intermittent fasting (2MAD) for about 6 months and saw amazing results, went Down about 50lbs.

Not doing keto anymore as I have reached by goat weight but continued with intermittent fasting. I have not gained any weight since. I think it is a great way to maintain your weight after loosing it.

I did not eat anything after 6pm

How much carbohydrates did you consume? If you consume it too much, it can give you hunger (it has something to do with insulin). It is better to consume protein and healthy fat.

Also, when I am doing intermittent fasting and I am feeling hungry (rarely happens), I may drink a bit of salt water or regular water. It does the trick.

Nice. I Started off with 2MAD and did it for the past 2-3 months. I am now thinking of switching to OMAD.

I do tend to mix OMAD days during the week as well. Its a good way to keep your system guessing.

Have you tried prolonged fasting? More than 24 hours? There is a thing called prolonged fasting (36 hours, 72 hours etc.).
