Don't y'all think Pakistan has way too many news channels and very few entertainment/sports channels? At least those are the channels we get here not sure if it's any different in Pakistan. You know there's something deeply wrong with the country when current affair talk shows are the most popular programs and politicians & journalists are celebrities. Nothing like that in most countries.

Takes me back to my old thread about the lack of creativity/originality in the fatherland. Businesspeople think it's safer to just start a news channel and all that news channels have almost identical programming blocs and talk show formats.

Absoloutely. There are too many morons posing as 'analysts' on Pakistani television. Most of these current affairs shows aren't really discussing critical social and political issues. They are mostly talking about rumours of military takeover, Zardaris return and other political gossip.

A relative put it very well (they don't have a TV in their house)

He said if you have rolling 24/7 news which keeps repeating the bad headlines about this attack/attrocity it starts to make it seem like the attacks/atrocities are happening every hour. It just magnifies fear and loathing and misunderstanding. Like here in the UK where idiots who get their 'news' from MSM think Muslims make up about 30% of the population and that they are being 'colonised'.

There are so many new channel because there is a demand for them and people watch them 24/7

There are so few sports channel because all people watch is cricket which PTV sports is doing a good job with and a few watch football which again can be watched on PTV sports. You can open 10 more sports channel but there's no point if nobody is going to watch those channel.

There's just too much news period.

You watch any news station today and you'll probably see the leading story at 1pm will also be the same leading story at 9pm.

The term "breaking news" has become totally meaningless with news channels using it to drum up interest for the most tedious of stories.

I like what Al Jazeera do in mixing their regular news bulletins with documentary films, investigative pieces or current affairs programmes like Counting the Cost, The Stream and UpFront. Its a shame they're Qatari owned so they come at issues from a Gulf perspective but to be fair, they have independent minded journalists like Mehdi Hasan who do challenge Gulf government policies wherever possible.

Back in the day Channels use to report news because there use to be 1hr slot. Now channels create news to fill 24 hrs.

This!

Pakistani news channels also shows interesting stuff on fb as their headlines. And many times in the process of creating news some fake stuff is also broadcasted.

Most of their staff are from 'The West' so there is a limit to the editorial control.

BBC is licence payer funded but staffed at editorial level by Tories.

I'm from a generation when the 9 bajay wala khabarnama was the pinnacle of your news intake.

I specially loathe GEO for getting sold to the Nooras. The analysts on there will even sell their families to the highest bidder

they are all west rejects who cannot attain a job here or in some cases good looking models that get shows. it is not mandatory to have ethics, education etc as your guests will be lowly scums who will just beat around the bush and never discuss anything which matters... acha dhanda hai for all involved.... only sad part is that for these media and political businessmen Pakistan has become their londi...

Don't know about Pakistan but I see various Hindi news channels having television show storylines(eg:big boss),twitter feed as "news" during their shows surely doesn't get worse than that.

How come there are not many English news channels in Pakistan? All I hear about are GEO, Samaa, ARY, etc. which are all in Urdu.

Let's face it, Hindi/Urdu channels are chaotic at best. Where are the English ones?

There was one English channel, Dawn, and it was beautiful. You felt as if you were watching the Pakistani version of BBC, however they realized that they weren't getting a lot of viewership from even the educated segments of society, so they switched to Urdu.

That's a shame. Out here I'd never trust the likes of Aaj Tak / Star Plus for quality content. Times Now / NDTV and others are the English channels and have a bit of finesse about them, even if certain hosts are brash and loud.

So sick of it, I can't watch it anymore, I get my daily dose of Pakistani news from Dawn only. The news channels have become a joke and they have become nothing more than political gossip platforms.

BREAKING NEWS
pehli class may munna exams may naqal kartay huay pakra gaya .......

(and the news anchor will repeat this same line 50 times in 15 minutes ..... )

that kind of breaking news soars my eyes and ears ..... :inti

Yes far to many channels. Even more annoying is how the smallest of things becomes "breaking news". It's stupid!
