Donald Trump has retweeted three anti-Muslim videos posted by Jayda Fransen, the deputy leader of the far-right group Britain First who has been convicted of religiously aggravated harassment.

Trump, who has 43.5 million followers on the network, retweeted three separate tweets by Fransen on Wednesday, which all included separate, unverified anti-Islamic videos.

One purported to show a group of Muslims pushing a boy off a roof. Another claimed to show a Muslim destroying a statue of the Virgin Mary and another claimed to show immigrants hitting a Dutch boy on crutches.

The videos were retweeted without comment. Trump then turned to the more familiar territory and suggested a boycott of “Fake News CNN”, before celebrating the level of the stock market and commenting on the firing of NBC anchor Matt Lauer.

Trump has often used his Twitter account to promote dubious figures. Earlier this week, Trump highlighted a website called MagaPill which promotes a variety of conspiracies. He has also used his account to retweet a Mussolini quote, to share a post from the account @whitegenocidetm and to circulate false and racially inflammatory crime statistics.

When asked in 2015, he said that he considered retweets endorsements. “You know, I retweet, I retweet for a reason,” he said.

Trump has long been criticised for anti-Muslim rhetoric. In December 2015, he called for a ban on Muslims entering the US. He previously suggested the creation of a government database to track Muslim Americans and made false claims that Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

He also tweeted in 2015 about what he called the UK’s “massive Muslim problem”.

Since taking office, Trump has shown more restraint in his rhetoric and boasted about his reception at a summit in Saudi Arabia. However, he has been under heavy criticism for his travel ban, which was originally directed at seven predominantly Muslim countries. Many critics viewed the policy as a backdoor attempt to implement his campaign promise of a Muslim ban.

Earlier this month, Fransen was found guilty of religiously aggravated harassment after she verbally abused a Muslim woman wearing a hijab.

Fransen responded delightedly to her posts being republished by the Trump account, writing: “THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, DONALD TRUMP, HAS RETWEETED THREE OF DEPUTY LEADER JAYDA FRANSEN’S TWITTER VIDEOS! DONALD TRUMP HIMSELF HAS RETWEETED THESE VIDEOS AND HAS AROUND 44 MILLION FOLLOWERS! GOD BLESS YOU TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

In September she was charged with causing religiously aggravated harassment together with Paul Golding, the leader of Britain First.

“The investigation related to the distribution of leaflets in the Thanet and Canterbury areas, and the posting of online videos during a trial held at Canterbury crown court the same month,” Kent police said at the time. The Canterbury trial involved three Muslim men and a teenager who were eventually convicted of rape and jailed.

Thomas Mair, the extreme rightwing terrorist, shouted “Britain first” before killing the MP Jo Cox during the EU referendum campaign last year.

Cox’s widow, Brendan Cox, accused Trump of spreading hatred and trying to legitimise the far right in Britain.

Labour MPs including David Lammy, Stephen Doughty and Naz Shah were quick to express their outrage at Trump’s actions.

Robert seemed to think Britain First has something to do with Russian propaganda wing. It sounds a bit far fetched to me, but I suppose that would tie in with Trump being allegedly used by the Russians as well.

Steve Bannon would have told Trump to do this, wouldn't surprise me if this was done to distract from the Project Veritas scandal and the horrendous tax plan

The other day he tweeted "Make america great again" when somebody called him out for talking down to black people. The guys a racist and he knows ot and so do his supporters.

A reprehensible man showing his true colours once again.

To Trump's credit... he isn't racist towards just one race. He is racist towards all races apart from his own.

He makes Kim Jong Un look like a statesman.

Have you seen his tweet about Kim Jong Un? Was literally comedy gold. Thought it was from a parody account at first.

Posted from Vietnam, of course. :)))

Typical behavior from him, I don’t know what is so shocking. It’s not like there are going to some consequences. He spoke like this about Saudis and Muslims before. What the Saudis (Khadim al Haramain al Sharifian) in return do when he became president? They wasted ton of money to appease this lunatic.

Theresa May condemns Trump's retweets of UK far-right leader’s anti-Muslim videos

Donald Trump retweeted a handful of anti-Muslim videos posted by the deputy leader of a British far-right group, prompting a rare condemnation of the US president by Theresa May whose official spokesperson called Trump’s actions wrong.

One of the videos Trump highlighted to his 43.6 million Twitter followers from the feed of Jaydan Fransen of Britain First purported to show a group of Muslims pushing a boy off a roof. Another claimed to show a Muslim destroying a statue of the Virgin Mary, and a third claimed to show a Muslim immigrant hitting a Dutch boy on crutches.

The credibility of the last video was immediately undermined when the the Dutch embassy in the US said the perpetrator of the violent act in the video was born and raised in the Netherlands.

By retweeting Britain First, Trump offends a decency he cannot understand

The US president retweeted the videos without comment, before turning to more familiar territory, suggesting a boycott of “Fake News CNN”, celebrating the level of the stock market, and commenting on the firing of NBC anchor Matt Lauer.

Trump’s decision to share the tweets was labelled “abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our country” by the Labour party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, while several other members of parliament said his planned state visit should be cancelled.

Fransen, 31, is deputy leader of Britain First, a minor anti-Islam party with an estimated 1,000 followers that has had no electoral success. Fransen lost her deposit when she stood for parliament in a 2014 byelection, receiving just 56 votes.

She has been charged with using threatening or abusive language following an appearance at a far-right rally in Belfast this summer. She is due to appear at a Belfast court next month.

Theresa May’s spokesman said on Wednesday: “Britain First seeks to divide communities by their use of hateful narratives that peddle lies and stoke tensions. They cause anxiety to law-abiding people. British people overwhelmingly reject the prejudiced rhetoric of the far right which is the antithesis of the values this country represents, decency, tolerance and respect.”

But despite criticising Trump, No 10 rejected calls from Labour MPs, including David Lammy and Chuka Umunna, to revoke the US president’s invitation to pay a state visit to Britain. May’s spokesman said: “The invitation for a state visit has been extended and accepted. Further details will be announced in due course.”

I think this may be his worst ever moment.

Labour and Conservative, Democrat and Republican, Left and Right - they are all going to be deeply angry and upset about this. Jayda Fransen is a white supremacist Christian fanatic who is in her early 30s and so in her “extremism prime” and highly politically active; Trump is the first ever prominent political figure, I believe, to endorse her.

He is really beginning to push his luck RE unpresidential conduct, misconduct in a public office, and thus possible impeachment.

Trump will get away with it, as he always does. Six months from now nobody will remember.

I wouldn’t put it past them. Fascists in the Kremlin supporting fascists in the UK, trying to erode our faith in British democratic institutions.

Trump appeals to the small, bad, resentful, hateful part in people. A dreadful human being who must be the worst POTUS of all.

A nice tight slap on the face of May & Cronies who went running to Trump for his hand of friendship.

You are being too optimistic, nothing will happen.

I am of the opinion that Trump coming into power was necessary for the same reason Brexit was necessary. Every once in a while the people need to vent their frustrations and the xenophobia needs a healthy outlet. I don't think either will produce positive results for America or Britain, but the people need to know that rolling back the time has been given a fair crack of the whip. Once this bubble of delusion has been burst then we can get on with things in a more healthy atmosphere.

People don't realize what is even happening. Just google Aaron Russo.

Except it's not going to get better.

Trump will get away. He IS the REPUBLICAN PARTY. .The rest of the conservative leadership seem to have influence only over the elites/rich.

Teh best scenario for trump to go out is if he does something to please his base which would reduce the profits of corporate america, then they'll get him impeached for sure.

Thanks to him now I know Britain First exists.

There was a tv show about them some time back, I did a thread when it was aired. Obviously the Donald will be able to spread the message to a far bigger audience than we can on PP.

Good point, hopefully we can make it to November 2020 and witness his likely usurping. He has done so much damage in 10 months however that I dread to think what the next 3 years will hold.

A nice tight slap on the face of May & Cronies who went running to Trump for his hand of friendship.

May has gone on record and called his comments wrong, good to see this kind of response from a UK Prime Minister towards a US President after years of sycophancy from Poodle Blair.

Ken Clark says Blair saw himself as the boss in that relationship. He thought to emerge as the articulate public face of the regime change, rather than the inarticulate President, and his place in history would be assured as liberator and hero.

Oops.

Dems will take Congress in the midterms in 2018 and crack on with impeachment.

Yes, I was surprised to see it to be honest, usually the British PM's will avoid any sort of conflict with the US President publicly at least. It does look like the government is growing increasingly nervous about being associated with Trump's idiotic outbursts.

How is this idiot still president?

What's it going to take for people to realize how silly it is to have someone like Donald Trump hold such a powerful position.

I know Sajid, he isnt a Muslim, He is agnostic. But at least he spoke up.

Well the US economy broke growth predictions and was fastest in three years in this quarter, so the racist chimp is doing something right.

This will get swept under the rug. This guy is like a demigod to his followers, it's like nothing he says or does will affect his popularity amongst his base and he knows that too.

there may be the rare occasion when we allow controversial content or behavior which may otherwise violate our rules

How do we define 'rare occasion'?... Sounds like a nonsensical policy.

I know Sajid, he isnt a Muslim, He is agnostic. But at least he spoke up.

I too am skeptical of this “religious when it suits them” attitude amongst seemingly non-religious politicians. But surely Sajid Javid is referring more to his Asian and Muslim backgrounds here rather than any current beliefs that he holds.

The point is that Britain First don’t see any difference between one British Asian person and the next, they would just classify them as Muslims first and foremost, and then a multi-national / multi-faith demographic somewhere else way down the list.

It’s funny how our own country is crawling with racists and bigots and we are talking about Trump.

England is far more responsible in addressing these topics than the USA. Just because Britain First is based in England, that doesn't make us worse. At least Theresa May isn't retweeting their vile messages!

I feel the same.

This will also serve as a lesson for the rest to not dismiss and laugh at the viewpoints of those who are right of the centre but not extreme (the silent majority of the right winged folks).

Once this phase ends, the world will restore back to normal.

I am going to enjoy the whining and gnashing of teeth of several right wing folks when this happens.

Our racists and bigots are not POTUS. They do not have a platform. Until he gave Britain First his platform.

Here in the UK, people face sanction for hate speech.

Did anyone see his half hearted apology in the Piers Morgan interview? He basically said "oh Piers, if you're telling me they are racists, then I apologise"...lol
