A few former La Liga players have had their say on today's game.

Diego Forlan: "Barca have Fati and Messi, it’s still a good team. Kroos and Valverde are playing very well so it should be fairly evenly matched game."

Luis Garcia: "As always we’re all expecting a lot from Lionel Messi, it might take him a little while to adjust and get into the game but he often produces something special and I’m sure that will happen in this El Clasico."

Robert Pires: "Antoine Griezmann plays differently for Barcelona than when he plays for the French team. When he plays for France he is very good, he has a good degree of freedom and responsibility but playing for Barcelona it’s not the same."

'The game will be strange'

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman: "It's a different game to the rest. You always feel more pressure, but I've been in football for many years. I'm used to dealing with this pressure.

"The game will be strange, as when you play at home in these kinds of games the fans are almost an extra man.

"Real Madrid possibly haven't been at their best level in previous games, but that doesn't mean that they will come here with low morale.

"Real Madrid are an experienced side and have the quality required to win the game."

'A Clasico is a Clasico'

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane: "We know what we're going to encounter, an empty stadium, but it's the same for every team.

"It's a different Clasico, but it's still a Clasico and it's always special. It's important for us to start the game well."A Clasico is a Clasico, with two good teams going head to head. It'll be a good match despite the situation and the empty stadium. We want to turn things around and and that is what we are going to do by playing our game."

Ansu Fati strikes again. The 17-year-old sensation levels El Clasico for Barcelona.

Jordi Alba chases a long ball over the top and squares to Fati, who slots home from six yards out in the centre.

Ansu Fati (17y 359d) is the youngest ever goalscorer in El Clasico, breaking the record set by Raul (18y 95d) in 1995.

He is the first teenager to score for Barcelona in El Clasico since Lionel Messi's hat-trick in 2007.

FULL-TIME
Barcelona 1-3 Real Madrid

It's all over. Real Madrid win El Clasico.

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman says the video assistant referee system seems to be "only used to make decisions against Barca" after Sergio Ramos' penalty helped Real Madrid win El Clasico.

Federico Valverde smashed Real, who had lost their previous two games, into the lead from Karim Benzema's pass.

Barcelona's Ansu Fati, 17, levelled from Jordi Alba's cross, becoming the youngest scorer in El Clasico history.

Ramos scored from the spot and Luka Modric smashed in a late third.

The turning point was a lengthy VAR decision for the Ramos penalty. Referee Juan Martínez Munuera did not spot Clement Lenglet's pull on Ramos' shirt but eventually gave a penalty after viewing it on the screen.

Barca had two penalty appeals turned down - for a Raphael Varane challenge on Lionel Messi and a possible Varane handball.

"I don't understand VAR, I think it is only used to make decisions against Barca," said Koeman, whose side have only picked up seven points from five games.

"You always get shirt tugs like that in the area and I think Ramos makes a foul on Lenglet first. There's a tug of the shirt, but not enough to make him fall behind as he did. For me it's not a penalty.

"We have had five matches and [VAR] has only been used to go against Barca. It's never gone our way.

"The decision had a big influence on the final result, because we were playing well up to the penalty."

Ramos said: "I think it was a very clear penalty. He tugged my shirt when I was jumping for the ball and it's as clear as daylight. It's unfair to criticise a referee for a decision as clear as that."

The result takes Real top of the fledgling La Liga table with 13 points from six games, six points above Barcelona.

Efficient Real brush off recent defeats

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has not lost any of his six matches as a manager at the Nou Camp, with three wins and three draws.

Morale may have been low after defeats in their previous two games by Cadiz, in La Liga, and Shakhtar Donetsk, in the Champions League.

But they started brightly when Benzema fed Valverde, who slammed the ball into the far corner, leaving Neto with no chance.

Fati's almost immediate equaliser made it the first time both sides scored in the opening eight minutes of a Clasico in La Liga since 1940.

After that, Barca threatened to take control but Real did well to turn the tide.

Ramos' low penalty beat Neto and marks the first time he has scored 10 La Liga goals in a calendar year.

There was time for a late third as Luka Modric stepped past Neto before a classy finish.

Real are unbeaten in three Clasicos for the first time since 2012-13.

Questions for Koeman?
It is perhaps too early to talk about real pressure but Barcelona's tally of seven points from five games is as bad a start as boss Koeman could have feared.

They were OK for large parts of El Clasico and dominated for a period but Real deserved their win in the end.

Scorer Fati was one of three teenagers in Barca's team, alongside Pedri and right-back Sergino Dest, who was the first American to play in El Clasico.

Fati - who became the first player under the age of 18 to score in El Clasico - and Dest, who joined from Ajax at the start of this month, were two of Barca's better performers.

Koeman will surely be quizzed on how Philippe Coutinho, who did not have a good game, played the full 90 minutes - or why he did not make any changes until the 81st minute.

Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele, two of the most expensive players of all time, came on too late for any real impact.

Lionel Messi was far from his best and has not scored in six Clasicos.

HALF-TIME
Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona

And that's half-time.

Gavi has a goal and an assist.

Barcelona are dominating tonight's Super Cup Clasico in Saudi Arabia.

Why was this match in Saudi? Empty stadium or was there any fans in attendance?

Gavi stars in Barcelona's Super Cup win over Real

Xavi claimed his first trophy as Barcelona manager after a comfortable 3-1 victory over rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.

The La Liga leaders dominated the match in Saudi Arabia and took the lead when 18-year-old Gavi fired in from Robert Lewandowski's pass.

Lewandowski struck just before half time when he finished from Gavi's pass.

Gavi got another assist in the second half as he set up Pedri, before Karim Benzema struck a late consolation.

The Frenchman's late goal was scant consolation for Real Madrid, who were a distant second best throughout.

Indeed, Thibaut Courtois prevented Barcelona from winning by an even bigger margin with a couple of smart saves.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper was tested early when he turned Lewandowski's sweeping effort onto the post and he also kept out Ousmane Dembele's powerful strike.

But after Pedri got his side's third midway through the second half with a tap-in there was never any doubt about the result as Barcelona won the Super Cup for the first time since 2018.

Real Madrid were just unable to handle the brilliance of Gavi who, alongside his two assists, became the youngest scorer in a Spanish Super Cup, with his goal surpassing the record of his current manager Xavi.

Back in October these two sides faced each other in the first El Clasico meeting of the season, with Real Madrid easing to a 3-1 win.

But Barcelona have since only gone from strength-to-strength and are currently top of La Liga, three points clear of Real, with this victory extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games.
