Australia's day yesterday. They should comfortably overtake England's total by mid afternoon.

Weather is set fair - its warmer than yesterday in Cardiff, and a bit of cloud cover - might swing today. New ball due in 7 overs, and holds the key

Aussies are plugging along and will be aiming for 550-600 atleast with platform they have at moment!

Did anyone listen to Boycott on 5 Live last night? really laid into poor old Mark Pougatch who only asked is Ponting the greatest Aussie batsman post Bradman.

Aleem Dar is currently picking on Broad again for running on the wicket.

at the moment the match is looking like a snooze-fest :28: , hope Freddie strikes soon or else the aussies are well prepared to take a lead of 80-100

Freddie's being saved for later, he'll come on to stop these two getting their double hundreds when they are almost there.

England need Reverse swing here because their "usual" line and length $h!t ain't gonna work here

Who are you counting upon for a breakthrough till then :D ? , I got my money on Swann

Aus move effortlessly to 285-1.

New ball hammered for 4!

Katich/Punter have put on 200+ here and going strong!

Aussies scoring at a very rapid rate here which advances the game even further.

Aussies are dominating here and Punter still has a few more gears to go through!

I think Katich won't go on to make a Double here but will surely pass his HS , Ponting on the other hand I think will until he declares the innings himself :D

:D My prediction about Katich passing his HS was wrong then , BUT I still have hopes that Ponting will indeed get his double alright

Yes that was awesome poor mark was about to cry as boycs took him to cleaner but pougatch asked for it.it went like this...
P; is ponting best aus batsman since bradman??
B; No.its G chapple.
P;Is he the 2nd best?
B;No..... I am sick of you ppl in media who do not have a clue about the game and come out with these silly statements.
P;IS only asked a question geoff

England need to get rid of punter ideally so they have two new batsmen at crease.

303/2

Ponting with a SIX off a no-ball

Short boundary that one!

I think Boycs goes over the top at times he tore into strauss aswell for not opening with freddie.

Old Boycs is being Nostalgic.

Anyone playing faster than a SR of 10 is not a real batsman for him

1 wkts followed by another!

Now Hussey goes!

Jimmy gets him caught behind

325-3

Ponting gone. Fantastic innings. As much as people dislike him for his behavior on the field, no one can deny the top class talent he has been over the years. Well played Punter.

3 wkts have fallen for 32 runs - if Eng had bowled like this yesterday, they might have been on their way to something!

The Wicket is taking spin , Good signs for England .

Probably better for Hauritz & the Oz p/t spinners!

I don't think Hauritz,North or Micheal are gonna trouble England much , :D they can count on their luck but nothing else except that

Michael Clarke's improved a lot though. He's averaged well over 50 in the last 2 years. We need him to be the third bloke to make a big score, and for North to make a contribution. Dubya and Krapich gave us a great opportunity, the challenge now is to try to only bat once in the Test.

For those who are watching the live telecast, is there any spin at all or Aussies are playing out of their skin?

A possibility considering the fragile English batting!

There is heaps of spin, even Horrorwitz was turning them a mile. They just aren't bowling well.

dare i say it but england's bowlers look completely impotent!

Aussies just 20 runs behind now, they had a slight wobble but Clarke/North have provided some strong resistance here for Aussies!

looks like their strategy of trying to bore out the opposition batsmen is failing big time!

Well I told you this before Aus innings started that this Eng bowling is MEDIOCRE. I don't understand how ppl expected them to run through this Aus line up when they struggled to bowl Windies out during winter could not defend 387 on last day in India lost to India and SA at home previous summers.
This team is not a patch on 05 but they won't get trounced as Aus bowling is not what it use to be.

Aah...That makes the Aussie batting even more special.. :14:

Aussies just 1 run behind now - Clarke 62* North 42*

I hope the Aussies beat them 5-0 because the England public and cricket team only thinks that cricket is all about Ashes, will be fun to see them loss 5-0.... Clarke and North both batsman should make centuries.

Aussies will be looking at 600-50 atleast here! The likes of Haddin and MJ when they get to bat can just come out and play some shots knowing their team already has a comanding lead.

4.40pm The covers are coming off.

Australia 463/4 (133.0 ov) - leads by 28
Clarke 74 - North 51

I think the forecast for tomorrow is for rain in Cardiff?

Aussies will most likely make 650 before they declare. England has no hope of winning this match at this point.

Unless we see a total collapse by the Aussies after the delay. Quite unlikely with the two guys in the middle totally set.

Bummer - it's raining. We'll definitely want to get to 650 or so.

5.25pm Still no news I'm afraid.

4.55pm The covers have been dragged back on. We've not lost any time as an hour can be added to play at the end of the day.

England will be praying for Rain for most of the weekend!

Hopefully we wont get any more stoppages!

!@#$ Clarke dismissed for 83. OZ five down now. Lead of 150 would be nice and make the game unloseable for us. Haddin needs a good knock here and then some cowlashing from MJ and the bunnies.

Might be difficult to force a win if we lose more time to rain.

Stumps, shame about the rain but we're still in a great position I reckon, if we can add 150 runs tomorrow we'll be in decent shape, assuming weather is not a factor. Good knocks from Pup and North.

:( certainly never expected this flat a showing. hopefully we can get away with a draw and improve in the 2nd test.

England really doesn't have a chance in this match anymore in my opinion. I think Australia will do well with a 150-200 run lead and then try to bowl England out on a 4th and 5th day pitch. It's going to be extremely tough for the pommies from now on in this test match.

Weather is now a factor though.
