Only 3 hours to go and the series set up nicely going into the final battle. Australia have the momentum, England in disarray pinning their hopes on Freddie fireworks.
If the weather stays good we could be in for a treat.

Trott expected to make his debut.
Will it be Onions or Harmison?
As for Australia, if Horowitz plays who will make way, Clark? If so that might suit England.

if Aussies have any sense they will remian unchanged. I think Onions will play for england.

If England do not take the ashes against the weakest Australian team to have ever toured England for a long long time then a very gigantic and eternal Lanat to their faces.

Australia, do not make the foolish mistake of playing Hauritz and please retain the same side as the last test match.

Johnson, bowl like Wasim Akram please.

England team
AJ Strauss*, AN Cook, IR Bell, PD Collingwood, IJL Trott, A Flintoff, MJ Prior†, SCJ Broad, GP Swann, SJ Harmison, JM Anderson

No Onions in there. Who will make Australia cry?

I cant see past an Aussie win or draw - because the weather is 'iffy'

Aus remain unchanged

Expecting a closely fought contest here. I hope we get a result

Oval track doesnt tend crack or wear - you've got to be an exceptional spinner to benefit from it (in the Warne / Saqlain class)

Why is England's best batsman (Swann) batting at number 9?

Eng 7/0 after a few overs. Not much assistance thus far for Aussies bowlers.

siddle at nearly 94 mph - give me a break...those deliveries do not look anything like 93/94 mph let alone 90/91 mph...

Cooks been poor all series so no shock there!

Stu Clark on and he enjoys bowling to englands top order!

or Murali

England will be happy with this start.

56/1

Aussies bowling to many loose balls and not bowling in partnerships here!

England need Strauss to play a long inns, didn't he get a 100 in the 2005 Oval test?

England need a score approaching 450 to put pressure on this Australian side.

Come England ! I really hope they win this 1 !

Why ? So their media makes this the BESt thing ever and continuously brag about it for at least next couple of decades.

Yes that's the fun part. Knowing a defeat could come against any decent test nation especially away from home.

^^^^
Because i support ENG over AUS and like the passion they have for their cricket.
Also Flintoff and Harmison are among my faveroute cricket players ! :) thats why.

I really do not want England to win the ashes,

cricket is not only about Ashes series as england think..

I want england to loss badly...

Lunch
England would be the happier side with only one wkt lost and 100 on the board. Australia need to strike quickly or they might only have a draw to play for.

Good start by england they need to get 400+ here and try to score as quick as possible.

England have got to win this test match. A draw will do Australia no harm, they still get to keep the Ashes that way and trust me given that they have a relatively new, inexperienced side which is nothing compared to the no of match winners they enjoyed in their ranks for the last 10 years and so, they will take a 1-1 result.

Well done Einstein! :)

I really wanted to see lee play in today............oh well , it's not like they are lacking 90 mph bowlers.

Strauss keeps improving his Test average, nearly 45 now.

What a batsman strauss has become , Surely a captain that leads from the front . I wonder how he would do against Ind/Sa :13: .

this is a flat pitch but the Australian bowlers have bowled really wayward.

ooh straus unlucky!

he was looking in the form of his life. I thought he was going to get big one here.
I don't know if bell and collingwood can get them past 400 - 450 now.

Eng 144/2 - Good solid start here by england. Bell needs to go on though and get a 100!

Ding Dong's batting pretty well. Will the Bell toll for him soon? We need his wicket.

Why is it that Strauss always wins the toss? Is this one of those "heads I win, tails you lose" coins? :13:

What's wrong with Twatson? I hear he is "unwell" and off the field. Big night on the turps last night?

GONE!!

Collingwood caught a gully - off Siddle

176-3

In comes South African born Trott

Yes

Siddle to Collingwood, OUT, and this time Collingwood does go for the drive and he's caught at gully! Full and wide, Collingwood gets it off a thick edge and Hussey takes the catch right in front of his face

PD Collingwood c Hussey b Siddle 24 (65b 3x4 0x6) SR: 36.92

Big wicket

Game pretty even at moment. Aussie bowlers should try and get into the New boy and try to unsettle him.

Bell playing well though.

This is a prime batting track at the moment eh.

Bell's been knocked over, awesome knock of 72 though, pure quality, a slap in the face for his detractors, Warne is very quiet.

53.5

Siddle to Bell, OUT, bowled him, inside edge - he's out! That's cleaned him up! Bell came forward with only a tentative little push, his bat coming down in an arc and it took a thick inside edge to clatter his stumps

IR Bell b Siddle 72 (137b 10x4 0x6) SR: 52.55

Eng 181/4

Aussies will be maybe looking to get england out for under 300 here now.

Siddle has been a mix bag today but has got 3 wickets.

Stage is set for Trott to put in a big one

MJ is leaking again?

south africa A ooops i mean England looking to rebuild here :)

Geez Trott's been lucky so far

64.3

North to Trott, no run, that's sped onto him and my word, that's close - thick inside edge at the last moment saved him! Lapse in concentration from Trott - sheesh, that was mighty close!

65.3

Johnson to Prior, OUT, the slower ball and Prior prods it tamely to point who takes a good, leaping catch - terrific bowling from Johnson

MJ Prior c Watson b Johnson 18 (33b 2x4 0x6) SR: 54.54

65.2

Johnson to Prior, no run, and that's hit Prior - shorter ball and that really has flew onto Prior much quicker than he thought. Smacked on the gloves - pretty well played in the end

65.1

Johnson to Prior, no run, good one, held its line after coming in at the batsman with the angle. Beaten

Let's see if we can do a Bradman on Flingtoff

Come on Trotter , Hit a century to shut up those critics .

I know you can do it .

You have all the concentration and determination ................ and Luck you need.

MJ should keep going around the wicket FFS. Why change?

Teriffic by Johnson.

Completely worked out Prior.

This could be the real turning point of the innings actually. Flintoff isnt consistant with the bat nd if Aussies can bowl well with the 2nd new ball England's inns could get wrapped up quickly.

Need Flingtoff's wicket. He can cowlash England to 350.

Don't count out England yet , They have got the world's 3rd best fast bowler you know , Jimmy the right handed akram.
