So it's Collingwood's England v Sangakarra's Sri Lanka in the first Semi Final of the 2010 T20 World Cup. England is the most impressive team of this tournament after Australia, but Sri Lanka might like the St Lucia pitch more than the Englishmen do.

Should be a good match.

I don't know who to support.

I want England to win because - IF we lose tomorrow, we should see an exciting Australia vs England final. But IF we win tomorrow, we're going to face the tougher team (England) rather than facing a weaker one (Sri Lanka).

Whatever, I'm neutral on this one :D

The Pakistan angle: If (and its a huge if) Pakistan beats Australia, then Sri Lanka might be easier to beat in the finals than England.

The Momo angle: Sri Lanka must lose today. One, England has been a better team. Two, England did us a favour (I don't think deliberately though) by beating NZ. Three (and most importantly) I hate Sri Lanka's guts. :))

KP has returned, but as usually happens in such cases, he will score a duck today. :)

Sanath 'fossil' Jayasurya has a maximum of two matches left (in all probability) although you never quite know in countries like Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka. Stranger things have happened surely.

Michael Clarke scored his highest Test score after returning to cricket (when he left mid-tour a few months ago due to relationship problems with Lara Bingle).

AND, weird thing is, a few years ago, Michael Clarke had to leave mid-tour again, due to Lara's father dying or something - he came back, scored a high score in his first innings.

:P so Pietersen.. might just fire today.

He may end up making you eat you words with a 50 or 3 wickets! :P
He used to love performing vs England.

That possibility, I must admit, is indeed there. :))

Even if that happens though, he won't grace the field after this tournament, I suppose? But again, you never quite know.

The toss is a few minutes away. However, things are looking overcast at St. Lucia. Hope the rain stays away and we have a full match.

Thursday 13th May at 15:30 GMT, England vs. Lankans at St Lucia

Head to Head: Haven’t played!

Tournament Performance: England has won 3/5 matches which include wins against the likes Pakistan/RSA and NZ. One match was washed out against the Irish and one early pool game was lost under the unfavourable Duckworth Lewis method against the tournament hosts, WI. So all in all the British side has got a near perfect record in this Caribbean carnival. Meanwhile the Lankans have also incidentally won 3/5 of their games so far which includes beating the Zimbabweans, WI and their Asian rivals India after a last ball six yesterday! They have lost to the Kiwis in the tournament opener and the Aussies in a super eight encounter! So therefore, the Lankans go into the semis with an indifferent record at stake.

Last time they met: England won in the 2009 Champions trophy held in RSA. http://www.cricinfo.com/iccct2009/engine/match/415276.html

Pre Tournament Calls: England= super eights and then elimination and the Lankans= Semi Finalists and possible title contenders.

Prediction/Verdict: England wins in a tight game.

How the match will be determined: The England batting against the Lankans bowling.

Key Player: KP for England and Mahela Jayawardene for the Lankans who is the leading run scorer in the competition as things currently stand. Both are in form players and will need to come good for their respective nations in this big fascinating semi final encounter. KP might be tired having flown back over the Atlantic Ocean in such a short space of time but I feel tiredness won't influence his on field performance and he will be able to continue his flamboyance as a star performer despite the potential probs.

I think Sri Lanka will win purely because I don't think England have very good mentality when it comes to tournaments. Sri Lanka on the other hand are one of the more consistent teams in tournaments. In terms of strength of their teams there's little to separate them really. I was impressed by Sri Lanka's victory over England, they've actually been pretty consistent apart from Australia. If Jayawardene and Sangakaara fire, I believe they will take the game away from England.

England will loose in the semis I think.

LOL @ Sanga hiding Mendis against India but unleashing him against England.

Salaam Momo and all.

England have been very good so far but the Lankans were on fire against India, well in the last 30 overs of that game.

Too tight to call, sitting on the fence today. :)

SL can definately win this game through their spin.

Salam KKWC!

Yes, I believe it will be a tight match. Let's hope it's not a one-sided boring affair. Ideally, England winning on the last ball. :D

The weather is attrocious though. That DL stupid rain rule might come in.

Salam Boraxo..
People say dont tinker with the winning combination but Lankans have done the right thing, they felt that they needed another spinner so they have included Mendis in place of Thushara..

SL will have an advantage if rain intervenes.

According to the BBC's weather only light rain is forcasted, should get a full game.

The sun is out and so is a batsmen who is older than the sun. :))

Does anyone know the name of the song they played as both countries walked onto the field?

Jayasaurus after becoming an MP doesn't even bring his bat himself. Somebody handed it to him when he was ready. :))

Can Sanath get his strike rate close to his age today? Starts with a dot.

Straight away, slaps one through covers for a 4..got some good bounce off the pitch..:wasim

Sidebottom to Jayasuriya, OUT, 135.4 kph, Sidebottom strikes straight away! Jayasuriya departs, very sad to see a great player reduced to this. Pitched up, fraction of movement away, regulation outside edge and neatly pouched at second slip

Sanath

Sad ending for Sanath, such a great player, since he got invovled in dirty politic his game has been a flop!!! :wasim
