Shams Taj, an 18-year old footballer from Karachi will have a chance to represent English football club South Shields Football Club, which got impressed with the talent of this Pakistani kid and has called him for a 12-day trial to England.
Taj has been playing footballer for the last ten years, he has been groomed in Karachi United and now he wants to realize his dream of playing the game at the highest level.
Like any other Pakistani kid that does not have interest in cricket, Taj also heard people saying that there is no future for footballers in this country. He wants to break these shackles and prove that footballers from Pakistan can make it big at the international stage as well.
“I want to prove that Pakistan has got the talent of football,” told Shams Taj. “I have been playing for the last ten years, I have trained with foreign coaches who have praised us. There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan and I want to tell these people that Pakistani footballers can do well at the international stage,” he added.
Shams Taj always strived to achieve big as a soccer player, he made videos featuring his skills, an agency called Catalyst 4 PSM came to his rescue and helped his videos reach different clubs of the world. The hard work continued for around three years and eventually, South Shields Football Club responded.
As per the budding footballer, this is something huge as clubs from that part of the world usually do not call players for trials.
“They liked the videos I sent to them and then they replied me with the letter for a trial of 12 days in England where I will train with them and play with them, if they like me, they will sign for me for their club.” Shams Taj shared.
Taj is a bit worried about expenses, he is looking for a sponsor that can bear the expenses for his ticket. If everything goes smooth, he will leave for England at the end of July.
Pakistan Football Federation was suspended by FIFA due to third-party interference. However, the fiasco seems to have settled as Lahore High Court reinstated Faisal Saleh Hayat as the federation’s president and the ban on the PFF has been lifted.
Taj believes that the game of soccer in Pakistan can progress if the talent is carefully nurtured and facilities being provided to them.
“As FIFA has lifted the ban from PFF, now the federation should work for the betterment of the game in the country, groom young players and make Pakistan a force to reckon in the world of soccer,” he went on to say.
