I admit I am a big fan of this guy's batting. I always have been, but now he seems to have finally sorted out his injuries and is realising his potential.

He has so much time to play his shots, has that bit of class about his batting that you see from the best players. I watched him batting live at Lord's and it was just incredible to see just how easily he was playing the English pace bowlers.

There may be better players around in Pakistan at the moment, but this is the guy who oozes class.
 
Just need a big hundred to get going in test otherwise he is treat to watch when he is playing fast bowler apart from short pitch which he duck very awkwardly
 
Certainly one of the best in Pakistan. But his fitness is still an issue. He seems to get tired after 70/80 deliveries after which he gives it away.

I wonder if he has big hundreds in the QEAT. But yea Haris is a welcome addition for sure.
 
Yes in sha Allah he gets a big score soon to ease any pressure and cement his place for a decent run.

Doesn't get bogged down either which has been a problem for the likes of Sami Aslam/Ahmed Shehzad at the top of Pak's order.
 
He does look good but I think it’s too early to get carried away. We’ve had plenty of batsman that have the shots but not the temperament. Alot of people are saying it’s fitness issues, i doubt that he’d be in the team of fitness was a concern.

Perhaps his best quality is also the cause of so many failures for him. He doesn't manufacture a shot and just waits for it to come. This is great since he doesn't often give his wicket away to a silly shot up till a point. But this very quality can be a cause of frustration for him. If teams don't serve him any balls to put away he'll get stuck. This is what happened to him in the first innings and what has happened to him so often in LOIs. He needs to take a leaf out of Sarfraz's book and learn to rotate the strike or manufacture a shot when nothing is happening.

1 full season on tours and he will deliver a century and be a 40+ average batter.
 
He is a good player but 30/40s aren't enough for someone who is batting at 3. He needs to start scoring big. He gets starts but gives them away.
 
Such a classy Batsmen ratee him the moment I saw him bat. So unfortunate that he has missed atleast 5 years of international cricket due to injuries and misbah. Watching him and Babar bat together will be a classy sight.

The issue is that he hasn't had a full FC season since a few years.

Once he's played regular long format cricket for a while, he can regain the ability to play long innings. He needs to be persisted with, and now that Mickey and the management have shown enough faith to play him at #3 in England, I'm sure he'll get a long run of games.

You don't average 50+ in FC cricket by hitting 30s. He's a proper player.

The best thing is that he has little to no hype behind him. If he can work on his bowling a bit more, he can become a fine batting all-rounder for us.

He’s in because of his batter so I’d rather him concentrate on that. Need specialist batsman, we have plenty all rounders.

Anyone know his HS in first class? Wandering if he could be the batsman that can really take games away from the opposition.
 
His best quality is his ability to put bad balls away. More often than not, he will send a lose delivery to the boundary regardless of the match situation, which is why he always maintains a healthy strike rate.

This is one area where Azhar and Shafiq have been extremely poor, especially the former, and that is why his strike rate hovers around the 35 mark more often than not.

Yup more naturally talented than both of them but would be great if he can learn grit and determination specially from Azhar
 
Along with Babar he is the classical batsmen. Very good both on the offside and onside and a sweet timer of the ball. Immensly talented and able to play both test and 50 overs.

Harris just needs one big knock in test cricket, 150+. If he does in this year, I can see him scoring big runs reguarly.

I see a very composed batsman when he is at the crease. Seems slightly overweight so needs to work on his fitness. There is a bit of Brian Lara in him:fizz

Hopefully he translates it into international cricket starting at Headingly would be great! So many reasons to want him to succeed...

Another trait to keep an eye on is strike rotation. From what I’ve seen so far hes very good at boundary hitting but allows the bowler to bowl at him.
 
Yeah he does look good for the time he is on the crease (but so did Umar Amin). He looses concentration after a good 40. I would truly believe in him when he gets a hundred. Scoring 100 is an art and talent itself is not enough to get it. He needs to have the attitude, the hunger and the desire to get a big one.
 
Class player. Looks assured at the crease the way Inzimam, Yousuf and Younis Khan have done so in the past. Certainly a player of that breed. One big ton away from asserting his dominance in world cricket
 
Very good player but doesn't look like someone who has the temperament to score daddy hundreds. Needs to further improve his fitness with the goal of extending his time at the crease.

Our second best bat after Babar, always love watching him bat, now he needs to play full time in ODI and tests.
 
Classy batsmen but his fitness is too poor to allow him to play more than 100 deliveries.

I hope Mickey gives him a game plan to work on
 
His timing is just wonderful, ball just races away. As cool as a cucumber!:raja
 
He reminds me of a West Indian stalwart Jimmy Adams when he drives through that cover region..
 
Missed out on atleast 2 very good years after he did very well for us in the 2015 world cup, unfortunate for us he would be as good as Babar right now if not better.
 
I hope that Haris doesn't read this article on PP. So much praise often negatively influence subcontinental players and gets carried away.
Nevertheless I am also a fan of Haris.
 
He’s been highly praised by Michael Vaughn on TMS which is praise indeed. Looks a fantastic player but he’s playing without any self doubt or pressure. Pretty much like early akmal and Azhar Ali. Wish him well but need to see him after 10 matches.
 
He looks a proper test match number 3. Solid and classy. Fitness is the only question mark. Let’s hope he gets a long unbroken run in the team.

2015-2017 he was injured but missed 5 peak years from 2011-2015 when he was in hot form, in 2011 season he averaged over 100 if i remember correctly and made centuries on some of the most difficult pitches of that season..

Always believed k if Haris was inducted in 2011 he would have been rated along with Steve Smith and Kane Williamson right now in tests. Apart from bouncers (which he can easily duck in tests) his only slight weakness is playing moving balls on offside which are away from the body. Close to the body he has perhaps the best technique.
 
He is a really good batsman. Some of his shots are delightful to watch. Want him to score a century in the next match.
 
Needs to improve his fitness and concentration or he will get nice 30s and 40s but few 100's. At this stage i would predict an average of 34 for him but has the talent to get into the 40's.

I ain’t talking about fluency.. I was referring to his stance and how he transfers his weight into those cover drives which are reminiscent to how jimmy Adams used to play cover drives. Agreed Haris is a lot more flamboyant though..
 
He's a superb timer of the ball and it is good to see him back in the side at No.3.

However, his fitness and body language is a bit of an issue. Hopefully these will improve the more he plays. Looks like a decent long term prospect for us though.

Yeah Carl Hooper would be more accurate... he had a classy cover drive. I loved his bowling action and the floppy hat he used to wear.


Windies teams of yesteryears were a treat to watch.

Given up on Shafiq? Or still think he is quality?

I wouldn't drop him given that we've invested so much, but probably the most disappointing player given as much opportunity that I can remember along with Umar.

I have come to terms with the fact that he is what he is. An annoying little player who is not bad enough to be dropped, but not good enough to be trusted either. Number five is about right for him, an average of 40 and one hundred per series is acceptable at that position I guess.

These days, I have a bigger problem with Azhar. Maybe I am getting impatient as I get older, but I feel suffocated when he is at the crease, and I just hate it when he trudges back to the pavilion after hours at the crease and the game does not move forward.

He has played an important role over the last couple of years, but I feel that he is replaceable if Babar finds his stride in Tests and someone like Usman or Saad hit the ground running.
 
Fitness is a mental thing, if its not your priority you never will be. I'm not convinced and impressed with Haris's fitness level. Even he is injury free now but looks unfit with chubby cheeks and is a very slow mover. Will not last long in international cricket. Look at the faces of others like Hasan,Amir, Shafiq, Babar , they all look working out regularly and no extra fat in them. Only Sarfraz and Haris are the unfit ones.
 
technically the most correct batsman in our batting line up his fitness issues were haunting him in past but we can see that he has done well to regain his fitness and he is carrying it up as well
 
Yeah he oozes class when i see him at the crease. Looks always in control and like he has ample time playing the ball. His only issue is converting starts into hundreds. But yeah he has all the attributes to be a top batsman

Having seen Usman bat a bit, his S/R and mode of play is not too dissimilar to Azhar’s. Don’t get your hopes too high
 
Been waiting for his return since 2015 WC where he oozed class throughout.

Confident guy and always has loads of time to play his shots.

Give him time and he'll come good. Just like Babar.
 
he needs hundreds to cement his spot like azhar and asad.. 50's wont win you test matches..
 
The only thing holding him back now is his atrocious fitness

Asif will probably be made to sit on the bench because of Malik but I do prefer Asif at this point as well.

Only issue is there are three lefties in the top four. A good offie can have a field day with this lineup. Fakhar can handle spin well but Babar and Harry are suspect to it. Don't know about Talat.

Talat is very good against spinner and to be honest there are hardly any good off spinners anyway in odis. Plus Babar and Harris aren't bad at all specially in odis. That line up is an ideal line up I hope they make Harris open gives us more options too.

I would change Babar and haris batting position other then that it's perfect maybe we can groom Shaheen and will play him ahead of Junaid. But an excellent line up.
 
Should take advantage of this opportunity. Basically got slotted in to the prestigious number 3 role. He does strike the ball with a lot of ease...just a punch and it races away. Should make that position his by delivering in the 2nd test.

Almost perfect lineup in ODIs. I think Sarfaraz should bat at 4 and Talat at 5 because Talat can shift gears in last 10-15 overs. Shaheen or Shinwari over Junaid and I can see no reason why we should not be lifting the cup in 2019 in England.

Does ooze class but at moment doesnt give the impression hes going to score a really big hundred and really dominate an innings. Needs a big hundred to really announce himself at highest level rather then looking good for 30-40 and giving it away.
 
He looks fitter than he did at the Champions Trophy last year.

I think his match-fitness will improve, the more he plays and as for the 100s, I think they will come too once that confidence returns.
 
This is off topic, but based on the squads posted above - in what world is Asif Ali better than Shoaib Malik in ODIs? Malik has averaged around 50 with a 90+SR since his comeback in ODIs. I know he isn't as proficient overseas, but the pitches in England next year are going to be flat. Asif Ali is not going to replace Shoaib Malik.

Malik is a dud on faster wickets outside Asia. He has fooled everyone with UAE bashing.

If the WC was in the subcontinent then he could have been useful.

Malik is weak against short pitch bowling. Take look at his dismissals in the CT 2017. His batting average in England is pathetic where the next World Cup will take place.
 
Need to give him the amount of games babar and amir were given... not easy to comeback and play international cricket and perform well and score centuries... Test cricket is even harder and takes more time for anyone to establish themselves, find their feet... need to be patient with him for a year or two at no.3 in tests and then see the results for assessment...

Sarfraz and Inzi rate him very highly. Sarfi in an interview said (when Haris was injured) that we are missing a player like Haris in odi side and also recently in t20 tournamnet Haris was selected By Sarfraz for Karachi. Inzi rate him and Babar as Pak's 2 best batting prospects and I doubt any other selector would have selected him after 3 years without any first class cricket. Mickey also rates Haris' fast bowling game highly.

I Think haris sohail should open in odi cricket. He is too good a batsman not playing odi. Fakhar should attack and haris should try to play 30 over inning. What do you guys Think about haris sohail opening?
