In the latest episode of PakPassion exclusive interviews, Saj talks with former England and Essex captain Nasser Hussain and dissects England's historic Test tour of Pakistan that made headlines for reused and doctored spin pitches.

Nasser Hussain talked about Aaqib Javed's idea of making spin tracks after a heavy defeat at Multan in the first Test. He also shed light on the importance of fair criticism of the 'BazBall' approach whilst acknowledging it's benefits as well.

Main topics covered in this interview:
  • The experienced spin duo of Sajid Khan and Noman Ali
  • England's spin attack
  • New Zealand beating India in India.
  • Acquiring home advantage
  • Advice for Babar Azam

Nasser Hussain has rightly spotted the biggest flaw of bazball ie they lose wickets quickly whenever they can't score 4 to 5 runs an over and any rank turner offers the optimum conditions for it. So Pakistan may get away with the English challenge.

But I doubt whether Pakistan can replicate the same performance against other good spinners side.

Well tbh with you pak blew sri lanka in sri lanka who are great players of spin as long pak has likes of saud and kamran in these spin condition they will be great.

I think the current Sri Lankan side may defeat them but that was indeed a good series victory

Nasser also mentioned a flaw in Babar Azam's batting that he gets squared up a lot. Who is gonna solve that problem?

Many people have mentioned that before but seems like coaches are sleeping.

Nasser just gave up another wake up call.

I think the Kirsten episode will make a lot of top level coaches wary of working with the PCB.

Most will now only work for PCB if they have a backup plan like Mickey Arthur did, or will have a contract that ensures they are paid up in full if it is terminated or ends early.

Do u know…if PCB has actually contacted Jason Gillespie…for permanent white ball coaching role? Earlier there were reports that PCB might be keen on Gillespie..if team performs satisfactorily in Aus… Now that team has done exceptionally well, but Jason Gillespie has publicly stated that he isnt keen on white ball coaching role for Pak… although rightly soo..But has PCB actually made any contact with him and tried to get him on board…and he rejected….or we just only know through his interviews that he isnt interested?

Although its very fair that he doesnt want to work with Pak white ball team after how PCB has treated him, but still want PCB to mend its ways and make all effort to convince him and give into his demands…..So if you could tell..that whether there has actually been any communication between PCB and Gillespie on this matter..

My understanding is that PCB hasn't contacted Gillespie about the white-ball role.

I also believe that Gillespie doesn't want the white-ball coach role at the moment.

How foolish of PCB to not even trying to convince him, when they wanted to get him on board, if team performs well, in Aus…. Given the team’s performance, PCB should have made all efforts to convince him…for the role, atleast till Champions trophy……PCB should have accepted his demands too, and involve him in decision making … Obviously he would be reluctant to work with PCB inwhite ball coaching, after how he has been treated… but who knows, he might agree, till champions trophy atleast..if PCB genuinely tried……. But God knows…what is stopping PCB

You can’t say anything with surety about the PCB. They are as unpredictable as the cricket team. One minute they are up, taking on world beating administrators and the next minute they look like blind men playing whack-a-mole. Best not to expect anything but recognise that it’s one step a time. There is a t20 series. Let’s hope Gillespie stays till the end of that. He may choose to go to Zimbabwe but it will be no bad thing if some local coach steps up for a short series and Gillespie devotes 100% energies to South Africa next month in both white and red ball. I think appointing his has been the best decision the PCB has made.

Gary Kirsten “was” also a very good appointment.. he is the best coach out there, and honestly was very surprised when PCB managed go get Gary Kirsten on board….. Hiring Gary and Gillespie were insane appointments.. But PCB being as foolish as they are…they made Gary resign and turned Gillespie into a dummy coach/day to day manager.. Any one who has listened to Gillespie’s most recent interviews…lllike the one yesterday . clearly tell Gillespie’s mindset now..where hes just taking it on a day to day basis..with no clear passion /vision and responsibility for the team.. Earlier he used to have vision for the team but now hes clearly not much invested in the team after his role has been reduced by PCB.. Infact he says I am happy now that I have much more free time now… this, all due to foolishness of PCB

I don’t know. Nobody can predict what this foolish board will do next. Yes G&G coaching team looked a master stroke but only the PCB can shoot itself in the foot like no other. In reality we all know they are preparing a local cheaper coach and this is about learning from a foreigner rather than giving a foreigner full control. I honestly don’t know why else they would appoint Gillespie to only clip his wings. But it’s good there is the introduction of some new players.

And now we are without a proper white-ball coach and the CT starts in 2-3 months
good luck to us

Now as per geo news, PCB will probably terminate Jason Gillespie..before expiry of his contract and is looking to hire Pakistani head coach actoss all formats.

Just when team has started to respond well to Jason Gillespie, now PCB is looking to fire him…. how foolish can PCB be?

So we fire the guy who won us our first ODI series win in Australia after 22 years…

Great logic as always from the PCB

Seriously, cant believe this!! I mean..what logic? Have they really gone out of their minds? They won, home series against Eng and now ODI series against Aus…and they are thinking to fire Gillespie…seriously?? OK..they gave all credit of Eng series to Aqib..but what abt Aus?? And this story is from Geo’s top sports reporter…so it does have some credibility…

They are looking to replace Gary and Gillespie, with most probably Qudrat ka nizam coach, Saqi bhai.. ..cant get my head around this!!!

It's 1 step forward and 2 steps back for us.

To be honest, it is a blessing for both Kirsten and Gillespie.

PCB should forget about foreign coaches after this. Now everyone knows that contracts are just piece of paper for PCB to rip up when they feel like and no top candidates will look to come

Yes probably after this no top foreign coach will ever work with the PCB for long because of the PCB's mishandling.
