In our latest exclusive interview, David Wiese — international cricketer for South Africa and Namibia, and a Lahore Qalandars legend — reflects on his PSL journey, Lahore’s bid to bounce back after a disappointing PSL 9, and the broader challenges facing Pakistan cricket. Affectionately known as "Murshid" for his mentorship, Wiese offers candid insights into team dynamics, leadership, and the road ahead for Qalandars.

Key topics include:
  • "Coaches can’t play on the field" – Why player empowerment drives Lahore Qalandars’ success.
  • "You can’t replace Rashid Khan" – How Lahore rebuilt after losing their star player.
  • "Shaheen should have been given an extended run" – Wiese’s take on Shaheen Afridi’s brief Pakistan captaincy.
  • "Pakistan is chasing a magic formula" – The instability plaguing the national team.
  • "Jahandad Khan is a phenomenal striker but inexperienced" – Balancing talent and pressure in young players.
  • "We lost last ball twice against Karachi" – Analyzing Lahore’s disappointing 2023 season.
  • "PSL timing is a bit strange this year" – Adapting to schedule shifts and tournament excitement.
  • "Lahore has the best fans in the world" – The unwavering support of Qalandars’ faithful.

Yep. I agree. he was treated badly and removed after 1 series only... He should have never been replaced then but things are different now..

Shaheen's own place in t20 team is done and dusted.

Shaheen has been poor and his brainless batting frustrates me more than his bowling. Despite this he is still one of the better bowlers available in the current batch for Pakistan. Unless Pakistan finds a better alternative, Shaheen should be playing all 3 formats. I have had enough of watching kachras like M Ali & Jahandad.

Shaheen & Akif can be a decent opening combo

Play for the team. The Nation. Disrespect is a myth for bloated egos.
Playing at the top level is more about mental state than skills. How can a young player feel and play normal knowing he has been betrayed by his board and the seniors he looked up to?

Difficult to recover from such a blow. Once you know your team and management is not playing for the nation and its just politics, your mindset changes forever.
