The incident took place on the sidelines of the SA20, leaving Fabian Allen shaken.

In a shocking incident, West Indies cricketer Fabian Allen was reportedly attacked and robbed at gunpoint outside the Paarl Royals team hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa. The incident took place on the sidelines of the SA20, leaving the 28-year-old allrounder shaken.

Armed with a gun, the assailants confronted Allen in the vicinity of the Sandton Sun Hotel, reported Cricbuzz. They forcefully took his phone, personal belongings, and a bag but thankfully, no further damage was done.

A Cricket West Indies official said contact was established with Allen and he is fine.

"Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian. Contact was successfully established through Obed McCoy (another West Indies international). He is fine. CSA (Cricket South Africa) and his team, Paarl Royals, could share more details if there are any," a top CWI official told Cricbuzz.

The report further added that no official from Paarl Royals was available to give more details.

This has rightfully sparked concerns regarding the safety of players involved in the SA20.

Allen, a left-arm spinner who is more than a handy batter down the order, has represented the West Indies in 20 ODIs and 34 T20Is. He is known for tying the batters down in the middle overs. His T20I economy rate of 7.43 is the biggest proof of that.

The 28-year-old, however, has not been in the best of forms in the ongoing SA20. Allen has a highest score of 17* in the six innings that he has batted in this season. His bowling figures weren't that great either. In four innings, he picked up only a couple of wickets.

After the match against the Durba Super Giants last month, Allen was dropped from the XI and after what happened to him outside the team hotel, it is unlikely that he will be seen in action in the league.

Kind of shocking that this happened just outside the team hotel. Anyone with a gun let alone robbers shouldn't be roaming outside hotels like these.

Johannesburg is insanely crime ridden. If you ever visit it, your tour guide or hotel people will constantly warn you about not wandering outside after dark or not to flash your phone or wallet in public.

Its scary.

Players and coaching staff must be given better security during such a big league.

Wow!

Where was the security?

There should be armed security. This is a major tournament for South Africa.

Just imagine if this incident had happened in any South Asian country... all other cricketing nations could have boycotted that country.

Had it happened in Pakistan, foreign media wold have gone out of control specially certain boards would have started crying that Pakistan should be banned for any kind of sports, security concerns, etc etc. Hypocrisy has no limits.

Whatever happened was pathetic and the franchise organizers and the hotel management are to be blamed for that. Where was the minimal security that goes with players when they are out?

This is ridiculous! How can this happen just outside the team hotel? I mean where was security?

This league was already quite a dead beat type and now this incident had put more stains on this league's sustainability.

this is not hypocrisy.
This is a poor logic used by people alot.

Crime can take place in any part of the world, the issue is never the crime. Its law and order. Atleast in South Africa the person will get caught and charged for the crime.

The issue with Pakistan is that it used to be a lawless society that the people who do commit crime get away

I’ve heard crazy stories from South Africa. Poverty and crime are off the roof there it seems.

This is hypocrisy brother. Had something like that happened in Pakistan during PSL, media all over the world would never have stopped reporting it and ICC would have intervened to call off the league. Why no such comments were made this time? Foreign players would have left Pakistan if it had happened in Pakistan, why no voice is being raised this time?

We have 1 billion people amplifying any bad news in Pakistan.

Lights go out in a match in Pakistan they rant and rave but are quiet when it happens in India.

DRS stops working and they rant and ravr but are silent when it happens in India.

They laugh at our seats but are silent when theirs are covered in bird poo.

They laugh at our security but are silent when England runs away from India for a mid tour holiday.

They obviously wont amplify any issues with this mini IPL.

Yes you are right. agreed. Too much negativity surrounds Pakistan especially if something like this had happened. Hope so it never happens to any body anywhere in the world. Not good for sports at all.

Will ENA countries send their security teams to check South African stadiums and hotels before departing for the country?

No.
